PlayStation 3 European pricing revealed
4/5/2006 10:55:59 AM, by Ken Fisher
The president of Sony Computer Entertainment France and vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, George Fornay, is talking price when it comes to the PlayStation 3. In a radio show with France's Europe 1, Fornay said that the PlayStation 3 will sell for between €499 and €599. Fornay acknowledged that the price may seem steep, but he emphasized that that price should be seen as inexpensive when one considers that the console will also play Blu-ray movies. Fornay also confirmed that Sony would be going for a simultaneous launch of the console in November of this year.
Strict currency translation suggests that American pricing may be in the range of US $605 to $726, but currency exchange alone can't tell the story. Case in point: the Xbox 360. In the United States, the Xbox 360 retails for $399, which is only €320 in exchange. Yet the Xbox 360 is priced at €399 throughout most of Europe.
If the PlayStation 3 follows the Xbox 360, the console may arrive in North America for US $499 to $599. This would easily make the PS3 the most expensive console on the market, with Microsoft's two next-gen systems coming in at $399 and $299. To round out the scene, recall that Nintendo is looking to launch the Revolution for less than $300.
With the Xbox 360 priced at $399 and a potential PS3 pricing of at least $499, the days of multi-console ownership may be coming to an end for many gamers. Or, perhaps not. Mario and friends may not be everyone's first choice when it comes to this next round of console action, but with most observers expecting inexpensive games on top of a fairly priced console, Nintendo may reap dividends for its strategy.

Allegedly Confirmed PS3 Launch List
It may have more, it may have less.
by Luke Smith, 04/25/2006
Over at the British Gaming Blog, they list eight PS3 titles and say these titles have been confirmed by Sony for the November launch of its PlayStation 3. Despite the reports of confirmation from Sony, these titles should still be taken with a grain of salt. Here's the list, so far: John Woo's Stranglehold, Tekken, Sonic the Hedgehog, Resistance: Fall of Man, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Lair, Motorstorm and Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom. Also keep in mind, we reported that Ridger Racer 7 would launch with the PS3, so chalk that up on the list, as well.
Now, the caveat. There's probably more that will launch beside the PS3 this fall, but for now, Sony is keeping quiet. Their lips might loosen a bit at E3, but as is always the case with hardware launches - everything is subject to change.

* Rainbow Six: Vegas
* Resistance: Fall of Man
* Sonic the Hedgehog
* Tekken
* Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
good lineup so far, not like grand-slam good, but good.
add to that:
* Ridge Racer 7
* Virtua Tennis 3
and it looks better.

Microsoft.. we have a problem; ps3 pricing revealed
"The latest issue of PSM has revealed new details about the PlayStation 3. While CNN’s Chris Morris claims that Sony won’t announce a price for the PS3 at E3 2006, PSM says the PlayStation 3 is expected to sell for about $399 in the U.S., €322 in Europe and ¥45,965 in Japan.
The magazine also claims that the console will come standard with a 60GB, non-removable hard drive.
For those who care about backward compatibility, PSM also revealed that PSO and PS2 games will run on the PlayStation 3 in 720, 1080i and 1080p.
The magazine also confirms some info we already knew. First, all games will come in Blu-ray Disc media and there won’t be regional lockouts. Second, the launch line-up, as well as the final design for the controller, will be revealed at next month’s E3 expo.
Finally, the console will launch in the first half of November with the PlayStation Network Platform service launching simultaneously with the console and offering free online gameplay."

I'm taking the pricing "info" as a grain of salt. Sony is not currently in a position to be able to sell the PS3 for that big a loss.

Rumored PS3 launch list...
Meh list. And where's Gran Turismo and Metal Gear in that?!?
================
Source: IGN.com
April 26, 2006 - This morning the British Gaming Blog posted a "confirmed" Sony PlayStation 3 launch list. The list included:
- John Woo's Stranglehold
- Tekken 6
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Lair
- Motorstorm
- Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
- Ridge Racer 7
While Ridge Racer 7 has been confirmed as a PS3 launch title we decided to go to the sources on the other games.
Not surprisingly, according to Sony representative, Ryan Bowling: "...no official announcements have been made regarding PlayStation 3 launch titles. Everything that you see is purely speculation and rumor."
Ubisoft would only confirm that "Rainbow Six: Vegas has a planned release for the holiday season of 2006."
Midway, Namco, and Sega had still not returned requests for comments at this time, but we will update if they do.
So, who would have "confirmed" this list? We have a few guesses. Stay tuned for updates on all things PlayStation 3.

Sony better have some great exclusive games, otherwise I am beginning to think they will lose this round of the console wars...
IGN: What is it like to program and design the game for Xbox 360 versus the PlayStation 3? We're not looking to start a blood war here. We're more interested in what it's like to program for each, and what each one's strengths and weaknesses seem to be? Also, how do you foresee the two versions differing in the final product visually, gameplay-wise, sound wise?
Magnus Högdahl: The PS3 will have a content size advantage with blu-ray and a CPU advantage for titles that are able to utilize a lot of the SPUs. The Xbox360 has a slight GPU advantage and its general purpose triple-core CPU is relatively easy to utilize compared to SPUs. I expect that it will be near impossible to tell Xbox360 and PS3 screenshots apart.
