PSP or Ipod Video?
I'm looking for something to help me get through bouts of boredom at my second job. Often times I am idle for at least an hour, and I figure, hey that's enough time to watch an episode of Top Gear . So, what I need advice on is whether or not to buy a Sony PSP or an Apple Ipod Video.
Does anyone have any experience on the video playing capabilities of either of these machines? I'm not sure how often I'd play video games on the PSP, but it'd be nice to have that capability, but the Ipod has a larger internal hard drive than the smaller PSP memory sticks. Also, the Ipod is more expensive......
What do you fine folks at Acurazine think of either of these two electronic marvels?

Get the PSP for the games option.

PSP has more flexibility. It's a bit too large to be carrying around if you aren't 13 though. It's nice that you can get movies for it in the store.

I have debated on the very same topic for about a week. I went with the PSP, although I do kinda regret on missing the massive storage space offered by the iPOD. It is a hard decision, good luck.

Do you want to play games?
Yes - Get the PSP
No - Get the iPod
The only thing that turns me off is the lack of storage on the PSP. That and I'm not a big gamer. I want to listen to music mainly... Maybe show friends and family a few photos and an occasional video.
Hence, I chose the iPod.

PSP compared to IPod
pro- great games + wireless gaming, internet(borrowed of course), pic storage, vids and TV(japanese TV tuner)
con- less storage space

My favorite game so far is actually MLB. If you are into sports games, definitely pick this up.

I've had both and eventually sold the PSP.
I do agree that the games are amazing and that the screen is crystal clear to watch movies on......but it's just too damn big to be lugging around if I wasn't going to be playing games on it.
I travel a lot and am not a big gamer, so my iPod video won out. If you love video games or think you'll get into games, then go with the PSP, if you're not going to use it for games, then it's not really an effecient multimedia device.
The iPod video is awesome. I catch up on my LOST episodes on my flights and the screen is surprisingly watchable. The only drawback.....battery life. If you watch about 80 continues minutes of video....the battery is basically dead. I wish it had about 3hrs of vid playback.

I have them both and there's no question in my mind that my video iPod absolutely destroys the PSP. But I'm not a gamer.
UMD vs. ipod downloaded video from iTunes...the UMD has a slight (tiny) edge because of the bigger screen. But storage capacity/memory, 60gb iPod vs. 2gb stick.
If wi-fi worked a little better on PSP, it would be 10-8 but as it stands, ipod wins 10-6.
IMO.

I also had both. I ended up selling my PSP because it just sat in the drawer collecting dust....Video ipod is just more convenient and I didn't find any of the PSP games to be anything to write home about.

I had both... sold the Ipod. I play games when travelling... so the PSP was the way to go for me. Gives me the flexibility of listening to musics, watching movies, or playing games. Some flights I watch movies (watched the Family Guy movie last trip), some flights I play games. Depends what mood I'm in. If I want to listen to music the memory sticks hold enough for me to be happy.
So combining all of that together, PSP was the obvious choice....

thats the only thing i have against the PSP, is the lack of storage space, and i dont really want to get that 4GB thing cause it'll make the PSP even bigger than it already is.

Might I suggest a good novel?

So I've had my PSP for 2 days now, it's the worst ergonomic designed portable unit I have owned
Trying to use the analog stick and the top left trigger at the same time is rediculous. Horrible design. Sony should be taken outside an beaten.
b.t.w. Kensteele:
my 6700 with TCPMP still owns a ipod video player. Plays more formats, and I don't have to re-format all my older videos. And I always have it in my pocket

It is a brick, but you get used to it, give it time.

With the 4 gig drive, you can convert full dvd movies to mp4 at about 600 mb each for a 2 hour flick. And about 50 mb for shows. Dont forget the screens are small and dont need to so large, the qaulity will still be DVD quality. Also, everyone goes nuts for all the storage of the ipod, but the battery dies so damn fast. On my lil sis's ivod video, i wathced a movie on the small ass screen for about 2 hours and the battery died shortly after. With the PSP i can play some Madden, a lil Sega Genesis, watch a few episodes of Family guy, and watch Scarface with some battery life left to let me listen to some tunes. Oh and this is all on one 1 Gig Stick. I dont care about transfering files, but the ipod blows when the battery dies so soon for that tiny screen.

on my recent 2.5 hours flight, 5th gen ipod battery was more than 1/2 full after doing everything i need to do...more than sufficient.
