Sony today confirmed rumors of a new God of War game and will release more details later this month.
The upcoming PS3 exclusive was announced on the official PlayStation Facebook page this morning. The game was also confirmed by its game director Todd Pappy of Sony Santa Monica Studios in a short blog post. Pappy adds that further information will be revealed on the official PlayStation.Blog and God of War: Ascension Facebook page on April 30.
Rumors that a new title in the series was to rear its head emerged from the social networking site last week, while further information was brought to light when NeoGaf users noted a teaser image for the game on the PlayStation homepage labelled "ps_gow-teaser".
The official announcement confirms the title to be God of War: Ascension, which was posted on in a recent Amazon listing for the game.
God of War: Ascension will follow Kratos' rise, in a prequel that discovers the origins of the Spartan warrior. The game will feature "the origins of Kratos as he takes his first steps on a now legendary quest for freedom and vengeance," according to the description on the official PlayStation YouTube channel
In the original God of War, Kratos is revealed to be a former captain in the Spartan army before allying with the god Ares, something this prequel will have to take into account.
Game director Todd Pappy is no stranger to the series, he worked as design director on God of War III. He now takes the game director role previously filled by David Jaffe, Cory Barlog and Stig Asmussen.
The game currently has a Spring 2013 release date pegged on its official PlayStation page, however we reached out to Sony and were told there are no confirmed details for the release date as of yet.

Just found out the game was out. Will play the demo tonight. Will more than likely pick it up if I enjoy it. I wish I could have used my BB reward certificate on this game (or Bioshock Infinite), but it would have expired March 2nd, so I just got Halo 4 to avoid it going to waste. I haven't even opened Halo 4 yet, so I'm considering exchanging it for this or Bioshock Infinite when it comes out.

My only concerns about Ascension were that I thought it would be too short and maybe the story line would get kind of old. So I held off on getting it right away.
I'm playing Bioshock Infinite now, but when I am about to beat that, I'll pick up Ascension.

They had this on sale at Gamefly for $10 shipped. I knocked it out in like a week. It was really fun but I can't get off the Hercules traingle x3 combo. This one had a little more learning curve with the fighting but great features like the grapple chain (R1) and then flinging people around. That Trial of Archimedes was a bitch man
I fooled around with the multiplayer training but didn't go into live online combat. My only beef was when they zoomed out the camera like 2151251 miles away and you're like 2cm in a 50" HDTV. I get they want to make it look pretty but it got annoying at times. Some of the puzzles were a bit rough that my lack of patience made me GameFAQ them especially with the Detoriate/Heal charm. They really thought outside of the box on this one. I still love watching the intro video with the Hetrotonchires or whatever you call it. The art was simply amazing. I even watched like 3 of the making of videos. These guys are geniuses.
