PS3 Bluray drive broken - HELP!!
PS3 bluray drive broke down 2 days ago. It was making grinding noises, so I disassembled it last night to see what's broken.
It looks like there's flat plastic piece with teeth that's supposed to catch a spinning gear and it looks like it is unable to catch the spinning piece and the sliding unit is stuck and only makes griding noise.
Anyone knows how you can get a replacement PS3 bluray drive cheap? Everything else is fine except the drive so I don't want to get a new PS3 or send it to a repair center and spend 150 bucks to just see what's wrong.
The warranty was over, so returning was out of the question.
Btw, is it true that newer PS3's are not backward compatible? WTF?

I just returned mine, it was still under warranty. I don't know where to get a new drive, but I bet you can call Sony direct and they will help.
Yes, the new PS3's are not backward compatible.
