I know this is late, but I was travelling for the holidays.....
Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit about backfiring? Just let me play online so I don't have to carry TVs and PS2s everytime I want to play against someone else. Sheesh.... They really spent time on the wrong stuff.

There are only currently 383 of the promised 650 cars announced on the website, so maybe the TSX and TL and a bunch of other cool cars will be shown on the site soon, and be on the game. But, I really wish that they would get around to getting the game to us, soon!

it really seems like I'm beating a dead horse here.... and I hate to do that... but it's just not dead... I mean, it's not even born yet... do you know what I am saying... this is just the appetizers towards the 7-course meal...
guys there are people who already have the Japanese version, it came out a few days ago. If you are really bored and have like, nothing to do (like me at the moment), check this thread over at GTPlanet, there is tons of infos, pics, and details about the game. It looks like GT4 is definitely going to be the best GT ever, people are raving about the enhanced graphics, greater realism, and other details about this game...

Gran Turismo 4: Import Playtest
By Anoop Gantayat of www.ign.com
January 3, 2005 - While gamers in America were feasting on new PSTwo and DS systems following Christmas, gamers in Japan were spending some quality time with the latest in Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital's line of real driving simulators: Gran Turirsmo 4. Yes, the long awaited part four of the series has overcome delay, further delay and further delay still to finally see Japanese release on 12/28 of 2004. A few days after Christmas, to be sure, but in time to bring in the New Year with GT4 spinning in your PS2 (if you have a Japanese PS2, of course).
So did Polyphony give us a racer worth over a year's extra wait? Well, 700 cars and 50 tracks is certainly quite a bit. We're sure Polyphony could have released the game earlier if it had cut down the car and course count. But, the development team chose to go all the way for Gran Turismo's grand finale on the PS2 (not counting Gran Turismo for Boys, of course), and having such an exhaustive car collection on a single DVD alone makes this game worthy of such an extended development cycle.
When first starting up play, we were greeted with some pleasing news. GT4 makes use of save files from previous GT games. A GT3 save file will start you off with a whole lot of cash in the main GT mode of play, meaning you can pick yourself up a nice car right from the start. Similarly, those who have the Gran Turismo 4 Prologue import will want to make sure that they've cleared all the license tests from that game. Tests that have been cleared in Prologue won't have to be cleared in the final version of GT4.
We were also surprised from the start to see the level of technical show in GT4, especially after Prologue and the recent demo disk. Polyphony is known for pushing the PS2 to extremes, and GT4 shows it. The game offers Dolby Pro Logic II sound support, allowing those with compatible sound equipment to experience races in surround. Video output is compatible with 480p and, surprisingly, 1080i output. Both offer clear improvements over the standard interlaced output that you get on a normal television, and although the 1080i output isn't as stunning as the 720p output we've seen in other non-PS2 titles, you'll still want to make sure you have the proper television equipment to get the ultimate GT experience.
And the fun started even before we'd opened up the box! SCE gave GT4 (probably its biggest game since GT3) the royal treatment, with a sweet package bundling the game in a white DVD case, a reference guide book and a cover sleeve. SCE even made the disk art full color! The guide book, created by Polyphony Digital, is over 200 pages in length and in full color and includes specs on the cars and tracks along with special commentary on racing modes and the photo mode. We hope Sony will give us a similar package for the American release.
Inside the DVD case there is also a pamphlet that is titled Gran Turismo Collection and contains a dozen pages devoted to products that enhance the GT experience. There is a page devoted to the Logitech GT Force Pro whose 900 degrees of rotation will be essential in getting the full experience. Driving enthusiasts looking for the deluxe treatment can look into the Sparco Racing Cockpit Pro, a metal frame that holds the GT Force Pro and has a comfy driving seat built onto it. All that for a mere $700.
For those who want to make photo printouts from the game's Photo Mode there are some Epson photo printers that are recommended as well. Specifically, the models listed are the PM-A900, the E-100, the PM-D1000, and the PM-4000PX. By simply hooking up the USB cable to the USB port on the PS2 users can print high-res shots of their cars from the game. It's also possible to connect USB storage devices to the PS2 which can be then used to transfer data to your computer. The pamphlet lists compatibility with Sony PocketBit storage devices between 32 and 256 Megabytes (models USM32D, USM64D, USM128D and USM256D).
The pamhplet also lists some less expensive items that GT fans will want to have. Enterbrain will be publishing an official GT4 guide book in February of 2005. Softbank beat Enterbrain to the punch, though, as its official guide book, "Basic Master," is already available at retail. If reading isn't your think, you can pick up a copy of "Gran Turismo 4 The Bible," a book/DVD combo created with the support of series producer Kazunori Yamauchi. The Bible saw release on 12/17. Check out the product's official site for more details.
GT4 has also spawned a couple of soundtracks. The GT4 original game soundtrack, "Hi-Fi Village Disk" saw release on 12/22. It will be followed on 2/23/2005 with "Gran Turismo Kicks." For more details, see, respectively, Village Records and Solstice Music.
