Great commercial during the NFC championship game tonight. A full 2-minutes. That must have cost a fortune.
I don't play games like I used to, but this is one of my most anticipated games in a long time as I loved the first and this looks even better.

I believe it carries over as a bonus in the next game.
I do have one question if anyone knows. There is said to be some 100 or so decisions that carry over to the next game. After I beat the game I started playing again under the same career profile. Thing is, I've only done the main missions on the replay. Did I screw myself over or will those decisions be pulled from the prior saves (from the first play through)?
Luckily I kept a game save at the very last level of the first play through, so I can have something to fall back on just in case.

Should be more than that. I got 40 hours of game play off the last one. One of the developers said that this game should be 1.5x longer than the last. Assuming my basic math is correct that should be 60 hours! Still doesn't touch my 140 hours in Fallout 3.

If I had beaten the game twice I would have had 2 files. However, seeing as how I only beat it once, that is the only file accessible.

I'm guessing it's mostly story related. There's probably some ties to how you level up and what kind of team members/weapons you should use, but I doubt that it will be hard to play if you didn't complete ME1. In fact, I can't recall any sequel game that was hard to play after never playing the previous.

From what I can tell so far, not too much actually. The game picks up 2 years after the first. The prologue won't mean as much to you, but its still play able. I highly recommend beating the first before playing this though. They are strongly interconnected and you won't have the "full experience". Plus the first is awesome.

Wow, I don't play many Sci-Fi games, but the reviews are amazing.
Out of 42 professional reviews, the lowest score is 9/10. The average score is 9.6/10

You should definitely also pick up Fallout 3.
One of the best games I have ever played, also one of the only games to get reviews comparable to ME 2.

I have played way too much over the last two days on pc. Once in a while the controls are kinda annoying, but overall it's a very enjoyable game. For some reason sheapard will decide to stand up out of cover now and then when under attack be some sort of cyclops super tank.
The thing that amazes me the most is that it looks absolutely amazing and runs completely solid at 1080p on my 8800gt. I've played other games on the pc that use more power to do allot less.

A small part of me wishes I bought this for the computer, mostly for the 1080p res. I didn't have my computer build when the first one came out though, so I bought it for xbox in order to do the game save transfer. Even though my xbox runs hot (I have it tucked in a closed area), it looks amazing and I haven't had a noticeable drop in frame rate yet.
I have discovered I do have one complaint for the game so far. I feel Bioware streamlined the RPG system too much. Mass Effect 1 had a horrible inventory system, it seems Bioware's answer to this was to just get rid of it. Upgrades often have no negative consequences and they automatically affect your whole team. Skill leveling is simpler as well.
Did I feel Mass Effect 1 forced you into inventorying too much? Yes. Did I want the whole inventory system stripped from the game? No. I wish Bioware would have found a system that is more appealing to the game's original fan base, rather than the 3rd person shooter crowd.
With that being said, the game is still amazing. This inventory system only bumped my 11/10 score to a 10.5/10.
edit: In Bioware's defense, they did do a pretty good job with the armor customization in ME2.

You do indeed start off with a new crew in the second one.
To put it simply: ME2 is perfectly playable without having played the first one. You will however miss out on a very large part of the game's experience. Completing the first game adds a whole new layer of depth to an already solid game. If you have the time and the resources, I fully recommend completing the first game before starting the second.

Can you change classes and still carry over other stuff from the first game? I played as an Infiltrator in ME1 and liked it, and it seems cool in ME2 but now I think I wanna try being a Vanguard. Hows the range on the shotguns? I assume they're good for pretty much any indoor combat, but I wanna try it out. also, can they use assault rifles?

Shotguns are pretty bad at a distance, mainly because many opponents have sheilds/barriers/armor or a combination of them. On top of the fact that they normally all have sub/full machine guns, shooting them from a distance with shotties seem suicide. Up close they are great though. Fortunately Vanguards have heavy pistols too, which really help with those mid/long range targets.
Both Shotguns and Heavy Pistols hold few thermal clips so that may get annoying, but your biotics should help counter that.

I was up until after 1am. It's going to be a rough day at work.
I always end up telling myself "just one more thing", and before you know it it's been a few hours.
I just finished distributing the vaccine and recruiting the doctor, and then blew away another 30 minutes collecting the dog tags from the Normandy wreckage.
I can't remember what I played as in ME1 (I think Sentinel), but this time I am an Infiltrator. I wanted the sniper rifle and the invisibility.

I've wasted more time mining planets...
I have over 50k element zero at the moment. This game hates people with ocd, heck if I tried I probably could have gone through the omega 4 thing by now.

Same here.... I feel like I have to do everything and anything but the main mission, then save that for last
In ME1 I did parts of the main mission here and there just to keep things interesting but I'm pretty sure I found every or almost everything there was before I got to the final fight with Saren.

Where are you guys finding Element Zero? I looked everywhere for that shit and can't seem to find it. I have only found a little bit here and there on missions.
My biggest goal right now is to nail Miranda, and it's just not working no matter how nice I am to her.
EDIT: I just found a bunch of EZ on Mizraim in the system where you help Jacob.

Mostly on small planets marked "rich". Usually you have to leave a mass effect solar system and explore the nearby systems that don't have relays or fuel stations. It's much easier after you upgrade to 60 probes and 1500 fuel units.

I'm trying to nail Miranda too, but she never wants to talk. Bitch.
I'll show her my thermal clip sooner or later....

I basically never play games that aren't multiplayer fps like counter strike and call of duty. I am completely addicted to this on xbox 360.

Slight spoiler warning
holy wow. So I arrived on Horizon and for the first time I've died multiple times. Those scion things are pretty freaky, but nothing too crazy. They move slow enough.... but as long as everyone's behind cover it's usually okay. But Harbinger is a PITA. He has that projectile thing that'll knock you back and make you stand up stunned, even if you're behind cover, bastard. He annoyed me until I figured out a strategy.
But later on I truly realized the tactical advantage of the cloak. At that one point where you open the big door to the defense tower controls, I saw the huge field with a bunch of cover and explosive containers and knew that the shit was about to hit the fan. I focused on taking out the husks first, since no one in my squad had a shotgun or AR, but my squad was down in seconds! I took out a couple of husks to see a swarm rushing me from the side and nearly gave up, and was about to load the last checkpoint, but then I turned on the cloak and sprinted to the other side. Took out the husks with the particle beam HW, then resurrected my squad. Insta-flank
