Thumbs down 97 2.2CL 5MT vs 2006 Mazda 3 (axela) 5MT

so my friend just traded in his Sentra for a brand new Mazda 3 Sedan or in Japan the Axela. me and him were bored at the time around 7PM and he just broke the car in so we decieded to hit up Rt. 9 in Sayreville, NJ. so we both start out at a 40mph roll and at first i thought i was gonna take him, but also had a feeling this was gonna happen. he was able to stay in his gears longer than me, which among other factors, mostly being that my car is painfully slow, led him to 2 victories over me by a car length or 2. but whatever it was a fun race, especially when theres no shit talking involved and no one knows whos gonna win. his car is the 2.0L DOHC making about 150 and is considerably lighter than my boat and the fact that i have 117K probaly doesnt help either. but the 3 isnt a bad looking or performing car for the price. i cant wait till he starts buying a surplus of MazdaSpeed and Auto EXEC. parts for his car. my mods are listed in signature in case anyone was wondering lol.

dont know why he was able to take you with those mods...never had an issue with a mazda 3 in my 2.3, and i raced a couple 2.3 model mazda 3's so in theory they should have beat me....

damn, this time it wasnt drivers error on my part. i guess my only option is H22/3 to be able compete anymore. there must be something wrong with my motor, idk. but i dont care that kid in the Mazda 3 ran an 18.1 at the track the other day, so i feel a little better about that. kid couldnt drive for shit.

Not ONLY option. turbo, spray, swaping is one, but cost alot of money and hondas arent cheap to swap, speacially the h22 shit. thats one of the reasons i got out of my Cl was cuz nissan parts are cheaper, and easier to get cheap. if you did swap, do the h22, dont mess with h23, too much hassle in it.
also, try to avoid rolls with people, the 2.2's and 2.3s really are only good in first and second, third was a dead gear.

are you on crack ?! you must have been shopping the wrong places or something, cuz thats one thing i loved about the CL. Parts were always cheap being that they were accord aftermarket parts. They're cheaper if not the same price as the nissan performance parts i looked into, as i briefly contemplated modding my altima 5sp. And 3rd gear being a dead gear ?!?! 3rd gear was MONEY on my CL, i can't even count how many people i pulled on in 3rd that were neck and neck in 1st and 2nd. Being that our cars are heavy, a roll is a better bet than from a dead stop. I guess ur CL had tranny problems or something lol. i do agree on teh h23 project though, too much hassle. just go h22 or my favorite, g23!

im not bothering with my stock motor anymore,it has to many miles to do serious work too. so thats why im going with the H22. but i do love the G22/3, but my block has almost 118K on it.

well idk whats up with my car then cuz any jerkoff can race from a roll, i had it smashed and that was that, i dont know what else more i could say. i mean the 3 is lighter and does make more power stock than our cars.
