Wtf!!!.....15.1 1/4 Mile:(

SO I RAN MY CAR TODAY FOR THE FIRST TIME.
I HAVE A 2003 CL TYPE S WITH 68K MILES AND THE AUTO TRANNY. I PUT 93 OCTANE LIKE ALWAYS AND ONLY HAD HALF A TANK, AND IT WAS ABOUT 50 DEGREES OUTSIDE HERE IN FLORIDA. I ROASTED THE TIRES WITH THE VRS OFF, THEN I LAUCHED AT ABOUT 3K WITH IT OFF. SHIFTED AT 7K AND WAS ONLY IN 3RD WHEN I CLEARED.
THE FIRST RUN WAS A 15.19 AT 92MPH, AND THE SECOND RUN WAS AGAINST A COMPTECH 2000 ACCORD, AND I RAN A 15.1 AT 93.3MPH, BOTH HAVING A REACTION TIME OF .42. I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD GO A LITTLE FASTER, LIKE MID TO HIGH 14'S, BUT I GUESS NOT. I HOPE MODS MAKE A DIFFERENCE, CAUSE THERE WERE COBALT SS'S WITH INTAKE AND EXHAUST RUNNING 14.1'S AND THEY WERE LAUGHING AT ME....NOT GOOD TIMES
ANYWAYS, JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY STORY, AND IF YOU HAVE ONE, LETS HEAR IT

He Wanted To Race Me So We Ran Straight Up From The Red Light Until About 90mph And I Was Beating Him By Half A Car..dunno, Anyways, It Is What It Is...i'm Slow..lol

I'd say you should check your IMRC for starters.

a buddy of mine has a 1999 TL-P and ran a 15.0 last season with intake, headers, and no resonator. 15.1 doesn't sound right for a type-S.

Intake Manifold Runner Control.

It's this lil thingy that opens up the secondary plenum that creates a supercharging affect in the intake manifold.

It is sitting right behind your intake manifold. to test it, have a buddy rev the engine up to 3800 rpms and you see and here it click. then you'll know it works...if you see no movement...it needs to be replaced.

Yeah, there is about a 25% HP loss from the crank to the wheels with the automatic.

Sometimes I wish I had a 6spd.

it should run a 14.8 or 14.9. i've found that launching off of idle works better for me. where in florida are you located?

It was probably your launch that caused your poor times. You said you roasted your tires when launching? That coulda shaved a couple tenths easy.

15.1 really isn't that far off a stock auto time, only 3 tenths, and keep in mind a 14.8 is the absolute best the CL-S auto will do stock. You said you launched at 3k RPM, that means you were torque braking? If so I've only heard bad things about doing that, not only because of our weak trannys, but because it doesn't do anything for 1/4 mile times, if anything it's better, like those guys said, to go off idle. Also don't do a burn out before going down the track if you have street radials on your car. Slicks yes, stock tires or most radials in general do not need to be spun to hook up since they are not soft compound. Just my . Definitely check the IMRC though just to be sure, but if you're seeing/feeling the VTEC kicking in like it should at 4,800 RPM then you're fine.

I could only get a 15.1 in my 02 auto I had all stock. I know some have done better. It depends on the track, weight in the car(including how fat the driver is) & launch.

Next time you go to the track have less gas in it. I usually make sure that the gas light is on when i get to the track and only put enough race fuel in when i get there for my runs. Half a tank of gas is an extra 70 or so pounds of weight, and with how much our cars weigh we nee all the help we can get. I even take out the spare tire.

i dont really understand why people do things like this, or why they take out seats etc.

if this is your daily driver dont you want to know how fast it is on a daily basis when you have all your crap in it?

If you go to the track and pay money to run you want to get the best times possible. Some people are just really competitive. When I am at the track and all the little punks are talking up their Sentra's, Civics, and neons, with fart cans and everything made at auto zone to glue, or tape to their little cars I want to be sure their times are no where close to mine.

so you strip everything of your car that makes it a daily driver just to beat them? seems to me like you are stooping to their level.

How the fuck is that stooping to their level??? Taking the spare tire out and having less gas in the tank is hardly stripping your car. I make changes to my car that could improve times. They stick any shit they can get onto their cars so their car looks "cool" or sound like it should be fast. Its not just about how much power you can make it is how you use the power. Its about the ratio of power to weight. Sorry if i hit a sore spot with you cltypeslow..... You must have some of those auto zone mods done to your ride......

I never torque-braked when I took my CLS to the drags. Just launched at idle. Always seemed to yield better 60 ft times and, obviously, better 1/4 times. Then again, I was supercharged and launching off idle would have just fried the tires.

It's lame those Cobalt SS's were laughing at you when their times were still in the 14's. Get a blower and you'll never get laughed at again!

i have ran at the track enough times to agree with you that torque braking does much more harm that good on a stock/very minorly modded cl.

you are much better off just running leaving it in D5 and slammin the gas right out the box from idle.

you couldnt have said it better. almost no matter what there is always going to be someone out there a little quicker than you. that can either piss you off or make you strive to be better.

from my own personal experience i would say that gate shifting is the best feel for me....the electronic sport shift seems really slow and delayed. that way is probably good if you are used to it.

the main key is to not powerbrake because its not really going to help you at all seeing as how the car isnt rwd.

i think you can possibly get there but its gonna take almost every bolt on shy of the supercharger.

i could be wrong tho i cant remember who has the top times for the 5at on the boards. you could always shoot a little 50 or 75 shot with intake, header, exhaust and pulleys. that would prob get you there.

Would you assclowns cool it?

AARONSredTYPE-S, here is a post I did recently about the IMRC, there is even a video link however it is a RealPlayer vid. You'll need to have relaplayer downloaded to view it. I suggest doing so even if you just uninstall and delete it afterwards to clearly understand the IMRC and see it funtioning. I believe it's activated at 3800 RPM and it is, in no way, related to Vtec. Also, when it is funtioning, your car will not start to suddenly pull harder at 3800 RPM like it's F/I'ed or anything, it will just keep pulling hard all the way thru the rev band.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...3&postcount=52

If your cars feels slow, definitely check this.

Goodluck.

Now back to our regularly scheduled ethuggin'.
