Track Day Video

Here's a video of my track day last Friday. It was misting all morning which made the track a little slick. I never felt out of control though. These Toyo T1-R tires are amazing for street tires. They handled exceptionally well. They made a little noise at their limits as a warning. Pacific has more left turns and the passenger-side front tire still looks great and didn't chunk even a tiny bit.

The video is edited to show some of the car the ol' Caddy took out. The only time I was passed is in the first 5-6 laps of the first session in the morning. I let a few Porsches get by. This is my first track day this year and I took it slow in the morning to get my track-legs back. After that I held my own.

On a sad note, a beautiful yellow C6 ZO6 and a white GT3 ended up upside down in the very last session of the day. Supposedly, there was some type of slick fluid that found it's way onto the track. Both guys walked out of the crash w/o physical injury. Both had cages.

Anyway, the video:

Sorry, if you knew me you would have realized I post here for the friends I've made over the years. I did track the CL-S on the same track (pre-Comptech blower and suspension mods) and it did quite well for a front-driver.

The CL did really well actually. It was very predictable since the car understeers quite a bit. If you felt the car understeering you simple needed to back out of the throttle a tiny bit and it goes right back on line. Power was enough to keep up with a guy in a stock B5 S4. I also remember being faster than a base Boxster. It isn't all about the fastest car sometimes...but rather the fastest driver

Excellent Video Tom

You make driving that CTS-V look effortless around the track while you're blowing by those other drivers. You definitely have some skills

BTW - how much brakes do you go through during a track day like that and what types of speeds are you peaking at? With the SC, that thing is a Beast!

Thanks for the props. My skills are not all that great. I've got alot to learn. 400lb ft of torque helps a bit. I'm running Hawk HPS pads. They didn't fade all day at all. I'm sure I could get 4-5 track days out of them. They're not too aggressive.

The front straight I pretty much just redline 4th at about 130mph and then shift gently into 5th gear where I just sit at about 2000 rpms. I get into 5th well before I've even reached 1/2 of the front straight. I don't even bother to try and go faster b/c it's beyond my comfort level right now. I wouldn't be surprised if I could hit 145-150 in the straight if I tried.

I was meaning to ask. What equipment did you use to video the driving? Very nicely done.
