gate shifting

im a newbie here and i dont know if this is a repost but i heard alot of ppl use gate shifting instead of ss mode.

im going to the track this week and im wondering what would be the best shifting mode and if i should brake tourque(if yes up to what rpm) i got rid of the stock tires so i have better traction now

its a matter of preference. i personally like to use gateshift, you can hang in first and second gear longer than with SS.

but some say that SS shifts at better RPM points than with gateshift. try both, its a matter of personal preference.

post your times when you get back!

gateshifting is only good if you know when to shift correctly, Im not saying u dont know how, also i prefer gate from a roll. b/c at 25 mph rolls you already are a high rpms.

SS shift gives the driver a little ease till the end of second gear

i gateshift from the line too... i like to get closer to the redline than the SS does

gate shift is when you go into 1 - 2 - D3-D4-D5 to manually shift the gears.

ahh.. yes, I do that sometimes, and it does give a little more power if you do it right, but doesn't it alot fuck up the tranny a bit? I find that if you let off the gas for the moment that it shifts and WOT it right after it catches the next gear you get a TAD more power. I took off 1/2 a second from my 0-60 time doing that, instead of staying WOt the whole time.

1/2 second is a good amount of time in 0-60.

from what i heard, gate shifting protects the tranny more than using SS (ask EricL the tranny gawd)

if you're worried about the transmission i recommend the comptech transmission cooler...

but i do agree with you. you get closer to redline, higher end with gateshift. even in WOT with SS for 1-2 gear shift it doesn't get as high as i'd like. but there are members on the board who swear that SS is better as they believe SS shifts at better rpm points. to each their own i guess

A lot of people use the term "gate" but the Acura doesn't have a "gate" in the true Ferrari, Lamborgini manual 5 speed sense. The "gate" on the Acura is the little plastic jigsaw-looking plastic cover that the gearshift slides through.

The average person will shift from park to drive and call it a day. A more aggressive person will flip the gearshift from park to SS mode and click up and down.

The true enthusiast will "gate shift", which means shift all the way down the 1st gear while idle, depress the accelerator, and launch from a dead stop until you reach the top of 1st gear. Now, it's easy to accidentally shift past 1st to 3rd gear if you're too heavy handed while flicking the gearshift around that little 1st gear notch.

If you successfully time your shift from the peak of 1st gear (before the rev limiter kicks in) to 2nd gear, then you've accurately set up your RPMs to make the most out of 3rd and 4th gear.

I prefer to hit the peak of 1st gear a split second before the rev limiter kicks in, bank the gear shift off of the corner up to 2nd instead of trying to muscle through 1st to 2nd. That way you won't push past 2nd into 3rd.

3rd gear is the heart of the powerband. Ease into 3rd and ride to the tip top of third. You only have about 3 seconds worth of useable power in 4th before she starts to flatten out.
