CL-S vs "The Others"

I'm really REALLY bored at work today so I decided to compare us to our competition. I got al the info from http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html. I figured the most universal comparison would be for a stock CL-S 6 speed or a modded CL-S auto. I included cars that we should beat, ones that would be a drivers race and sleepers. Some cars really suprised me for various reasons. Enjoy!

Cars we should beat...

I'm a graphic designer and it's kind of the nature of the business to be dead one day and then swamped the next. It's not that fun sitting around with no work, believe me, I'd much rather be busy than bored.

Furniture fair? Don't know what that is. I work for a small corporation that makes, of all things, auto accessories, replacement parts and repair kits & tools.

Very interesting. The Grand Prix GTP stock won't beat us. But if you run across one with as little as an aftermarket SC pulley, watch out...

Talking Hilarious !

I think its quite hilarious when guys with family cars try and compare (in speed) their cars with real sports cars. How in the H___ is an Acura CL going to run with a GSX Mitsubishi ECLIPSE? These cars are AWD and are very potent when driven properly.

Ironically. another member of this forum and I have a little "Grudge" match going in which he will pit his 03 CL-S 6 speed against my 1995 GS-T. We're both fwd so there goes my advantage right there.

Hes done quite a bit of work from what I hear and believe me, I'm not worried one bit.

After I dust him off, maybe I'll go to the garage and pull out my 99 cl 3.0 Auto. That would probably be a fair race.

LOL !

(Dont let the factory printed numbers get you into trouble on the street....you may walk home !)

Direct quote from the website I took the info from:

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU CONTINUE.
This is a collection of 0-60 and 1/4 mile times that have been accumulated from many different sources over the years. These sources all include vehicle testing done by "the experts" at Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, various written auto publications and from the auto manufacturers themselves. Our club does not do any of the actual testing of the cars, we just post the results that we find from the above mentioned sources.

Our list provides "factory stock" road test figures for most of the Makes & Models of "production" vehicles that are available in the United States.

When viewing this list, please keep in mind that day to day testing conditions are not always perfect (or even consistent) due to weather and track conditions! The results that "the experts" have provided may NOT reflect what your car is capable of doing under your conditions. This list is only meant to be a guideline, NOT THE GOSPEL!!! We are not trying to publish the exact (or even the best) numbers that a specific make and model of car can run every time out of the box. We are only posting this information as a basic guide so that anyone can use it as a base comparison. Every reasonable effort is taken to keep this list as accurate and up to date as is possible.

So, there you go. I'm not trying to convince anyone that we'd win a race every single time against the cars on the list, (which by the way include all kinds of vehicles, not just sports cars) but that if we encounter them on the street here's the likely hood of whether it'd be a good race or not.

As far as the CL-S being a family car, uh no, it's a 2 door luxury sports coupe, I don't know how exactly that makes it a family car. But wait a second, don't I recall you claiming to have a Lincoln that can outrun our CL-S in a previous thread? What happened to that car? That's not a family car? And now you have a 95 GS-T AND a 99 3.0 CL??? Hmm, sounds a little like to me. Anyway, just like the website says, it's not the Gospel, it's just a reference.

Let's say for example though, if someone doesn't know how to drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX and they're facing a modded CL-S 5at or CL-S6, then yes they can definitely be beat. Just like a GXS, if driven properly, our cars can be potent too. Just because it's AWD doesn't mean jack if the race is from a roll. From a dig of course it makes a difference, but even so, it doesn't automatically mean the race is over. Just ask all those AWD WRX owners out there that think they're going to walk all over us and all they see is our tail lights.

A couple of weeks ago I went to atco raceway in jersey and I saw a gsx with an upgraded blow off valve and a couple of mods and his best run was a 14.8 so I can really see a CL-S beating a gsx

with just an intake no I don't think you could take him. get headers or all the bolt ons and then I would say it is a driver's race.

And now you have a 95 GS-T AND a 99 3.0 CL??? Hmm, sounds a little like to me.

Why does that sound like BS?

Is it BS to you because you can only afford 1 car payment? LOL !

I have a few more cars as well including a fast Lincoln Mark 8 and a race ready 1991 Eclipse GSX AUto.

Regardless, Im not gonna flame you back, just going to state that this friendly competition between me and the other board member will soon come to fruition.

He has done several mods to his ride from what I understand and says that I have no chance in hell to win.

Its $300/race best 3 out of 5. I will soon post a picture of my $900 being handed to me as well as the video and timeslips.

Who has money on the CL-S raise your hand? I'll cover all bets. And yes, when you're done talkin...its still a Mitsubishi.

I ran a G35 Coupe in my CL-S 6spd when it was bone stock. Rolling from about 140km/h the G35 pulled slightly to about 190km/h (1/2 car length). By 220km/h I had almost a full car length.

We tried it once to 200km/h and two more times to 220... consistant results. This was about 2 years ago.

Cheers

I wanna race you in my Evo, that way itll by mitsubish vs. mitsubishi

Wow, post started off well.

I dont know how it got to be the "ooh yea i could beat you in my (Insert Car of Choice Here), with (List of mods here) for ($$ here). Wow congrats!

Back to the original post. Sweet list. I can't wait to really get a good feel for the 2002 Cl type S. Purchased one last week and the dealer still has it for parts that need to replaced. Should pick it up this week.

And to the gentleman that posted about the G-35 thank you, that was my first choice but could not find one for the right price for purchase. Can't wait to pull up on one( cough cough at the track of course

Although i wouldnt pull up next to a 1985 Buick Regal Grand National and do anything but drool!!

Although i didn't see the Type R anywhere on the list.

Any one have any type-r stories?

Being an Integra owner 2x over ( Just sold my track tegra last week ) I just love that car, never had a type R.

I've seen post where people have do the paper to paper race and say the type s should win.

Can any one confirm Type S or Type R.

Ironically. another member of this forum and I have a little "Grudge" match going in which he will pit his 03 CL-S 6 speed against my 1995 GS-T. We're both fwd so there goes my advantage right there.

Hes done quite a bit of work from what I hear and believe me, I'm not worried one bit.

After I dust him off, maybe I'll go to the garage and pull out my 99 cl 3.0 Auto. That would probably be a fair race.

LOL !

(Dont let the factory printed numbers get you into trouble on the street....you may walk home !)

actaully i raced a eclipse GSX turbo and beat it little more over than my car length alot of people underestimate CL-S. and eclipse r all overrated

RESULTS of CL-S vs Eclipse

Ok, let me first start this post by saying this is not intended to flame, downtalk or embarass anyone on the board or reading this post:

I want to thank all who made it out to the Chicago Lakefront meet in April. Awesome turnout ! I met a lot of really nice people and saw some beautiful rides. If you were there, I was the big guy with the 1995 Green Mitsubishi Eclipse assisting with setting the cars up for pics.

We discussed a lil challenge that would be taking place between myself and another member and his 03 CL-S. Results were as predicted, but I have to take my hat off to him as it was his first time running his car at the track and he did very well !.

The family came out to cheer us on and we had a really great time !

My best run of the day was the first run 14.045 @ 103.69 vs his 15.740 @ 82.42.
Wthe exception of this run, he consistently got of the line better than I did with a best 60' time of 2.309 vs my best of 2.341. I had to run him down most races after he put 4-8 cars on me from the jump. (Too much power, too little grip) I must admit that I am a roookie when it comes to launching a FWD car. Next time out, I will bring a different set of tires, play with tire pressure and try different slippages of the clutch since I have one of the strongest clutches on the market for street cars in the ACT 2600.

His best ET of the day was a proud 14.461@96.59mph. Very respectable.
One note about his runs, he later found that he was only running on 5 cylinders all day, so things may have been a bit different had all 6 been firing properly.

The 14.04 is in no way indicative of how fast this car actually is. I ran a best mph of 106.59 that day after launching like a girl with wheel hop and windshield wipers activated. I was only boosting at 15psi and running 1 level hotter plug than I should have. With the boost cranked up to 25psi, a cooler plug, race gas, decent launch via different rubber, this is easily a low 12 second car.

I can almost gurantee 11's by fall.

LOL ! No.

We started at the line evenly, took off at the same time and he got me out of the hole consistently, 4 out of 5 times. The CL is not necessarily faster out the hole, call it driver error on my part. Like I said, I have more power to put to the ground and spun the front wheels being over agressive.

LOL ! You dont really wanna do that to yourself son. I'd just go and spank you with my 9 second automatic Eclipse.

Whenever you and that 4 door tank of a family car make a trip to Chicago, you be sure and look me up for a quick lesson in street racing.

Your car may be very fast. But it does not even compare to any Acura IMO. Going the fastest is not always the best thing either. That is why I love my CL-S I can go fast(fast enough) and still enjoy my heated leather seats, etc...

You may beat us in your Eclipse, but at least we will be comfortable and stylin while losin!

Not trying to crap on your car or anything I am just not a big fan of any Mitsubishi. I know some are very nice. But alot of them are crap as well. Same goes for Acura so don't hate, it's just the way it is.
