Um I would reconsider racing if I were you then. Stock for stock you would take him...but with 240hp at the crank he will take your auto. If you were 6speed that might be a closer race.
Get those headers and cai and you should take him then.

oh yea....headers will have to be in first...then ill consider racing him...lol that bastard told me he didnt have a chip, but my friend told me he does...cause he works on the gli with him...damn it. i need to get a job once i get back in town for college, im already getting tired of how slow this thing is, shhh dont her it i said that, i still love her

Find out which program he has. If it's APR, race him from a slow roll because he'll start pulling on you hard once you get up around 60. If it's GIAAC, go from a faster roll because that program is very aggressive in the lower gearing (where as APR doesn't reach full boost until 3rd gear). Either way, it'll be very close.

Keep in mind even with 240hp at the crank, it is still 20hp less than yours stock. With the drivetrain loss between your AT and his MT with less output, you still may have more WHP than him. If you have headers you should definitely keep up and win. Even an AT should put out at least 225WHP with headers. I know he is probably a bit lighter than you. So $200 to the winner? Maybe you could take out the trunk junk and backseat, would save 100 pounds or so I am guessing. The backseat is basically 4 bolts...If you are on a tighter budget definitely go with OBX headers, I have them and they are worth the money.

200 bucks is too much to waste, im gonna wait it out till i get headers or at least an intake....i mean to be honest, with the chip in his car...its a GOOD race, no ones going to whoop the other....so...i dunno, i just want my car to have something modded on it considering he's got a APR chip and a neuspeed intake...as for headers...they'll have to wait till i have a job for a few weeks as soon as i get back to college...only comptech will do...anything else will have me wondering how much better comptech headers could have been

I think even stock, the GLi might take our CLS stock. Those turbos need almost nothing to get them going. Max torque on them is already achieved in the high 1000's rpms. Audi/VW is VERY good at what they do even at stock. And remember, the new GLi is now a 2.0T...not 1.8 as the markiv. Not only that, but numbers should be ignored...VW ALWAYS underrepresents their specs on paper (it's good for the insurance!! hehe).
I agree with Puresound15...APR does make a slightly less aggressive program (which allows the stock turbos last a little longer..heh) but overall I still think they have a better overall program itself. But I will however, disagree with you on the fact that it doesn't kick in until 3rd gear. The program runs great even on 1st gear...
Now chipped, regardless of which one it is...yeah, our CL is toast...even on the older 1.8T models.
Ok, off the soapbox now....I still love the CL...but you have to love VW/Audi for their work. I say, race for a dinner, let him beat you...but enjoy the sound that comes out of that engine....the sound of that winding is just....aaaah....yeah....
Ok, let the start...

It's funny, I went to check out what people say on VW posts about the new GLI and chips, 1/4 times, etc. and it's like reading Acurazine. There's the one's who claim to be keeping up with SRT-8s and STis and then there are the ones who say the HP numbers and claims are just that, claims. Either way, one consensus is that chips really do add as much as 50 HP to a 1.8t and the new 2.0t. I wish us CL owners had that option. 50+ HP for $600. Sigh.
But in general the most concrete numbers I could find for a stock 2006 GLI are 7.1 0-60 and 15.5 1/4 mile.

says "hello to my TLX".
just the other day, i was cruising at 80 and saw a little Jetta with HIDs coming up quick from behind. as it got closer, i confirmed it was just a Jetta and allowed him to get to my left door with all of his momentum. i had anticipated this and downshifted to 3rd and gave it some gas. i immediately froze him and recovered his lead (just under a carlength) and blew by him. i stretched it to the top of third just in case he hadn't noticed and already floored it. i pulled a good five cars on him easy.
i returned to normal driving and he must've never let off. he did a flyby allowing me to see his GLI badge.

lol i did race him...with his chip OFF and i LOST....i couldnt believe it...oh and those numbers are with his chip ON...you may be right though...hopefully those mods will work...

302tq with the chip? You sure about that? 50 hp is in the realm of believability, although it seems like alot. I know chips give big gains, but even if it is the new 2.0T, that is 100tq gain!
EDIT: Please race again, and understand you will make yourself look much better with the 5AT from a roll. If 250hp/300tq is legit, at 3100 lbs and the 6MT I think you would have gotten flame roasted by him.

Yea gate shift from 2-1 around 30, with the headers I get either chirpage or VSA kicking in every time. Gate shifting is the only guarantee to go to redline every time in 1st.
I guess that is true about the gains for the GTI then, with the chip you are screwed. I don't see how stock it only supposedly runs 15's.

you are correct. it was my fuckin mistake to tell them i wanted a race from a roll at 30....cause i know when we started the race his engine was already revving really loud in 2nd gear, so it was ready to launch on the third honk...while i think** my car was only at about 3k or 3.5k rpms...fuck...
thats what we'll do in the next race...20mph roll...or 45mph roll..thanks!

GLI Specs
Curb weight 3,308 lbs.
Engine displacement 121 cu.in.
Engine horsepower 200-hp @ 5,500 rpm
Engine torque 207 lbs.-ft. @ 1,800 rpm
CL-S specs
Engine displacement 196 cu.in.
Engine horsepower 260-hp @ 6,100 rpm
Engine torque 232 lbs.-ft. @ 3,500 rpm
Curb weight 3,510 lbs.
His Torque is at a nasty low rpm. if you can get him to stay at a high rpm running from a high speed roll you should take him. 45mph roll would be ideal!

yea man, practice gate shifting, its more responsive than SS IMO, especially since 1st shifts automaticly to 2nd is SS, you should feel a difference, and like everyone is saying, start your roll at a higher speed, that happened to me with an 06 350z(convertible w/ top down) i caught him on the highway and actually walked him. and that would be your cl's power zone. race him again, i think you should take him. good luck.

Those little turbo's are no joke, I got smoked off the line by a GTI...I say try him from a dig, he probably will take you at first until VTEC kicks in....I didn't have any mods and I still won..
