0-60 is 7.1 sec.
1/4 mile in 15.5 sec.
You could start in 3rd gear and still whip him...not even a comparible.

Yeah, those GLIs are more about looks than speed. I killed one in my old EP3 before the supercharger. Now if it's modded with a chip or turbo upgrade then it'll be a close race.

I wish people would read what the post is actually about.
2006 GLI VS 2001 CLS(auto)

If the GLI had a chip and the CL-S had headers/intake/pulleys it would still win...Who gives a f*ck. We are talking Stock VS Stock.
As for my numbers being slightly off yes any car mag./article is going to be slightly different. But read carefully...."First impressions confirm VW’s claim that the car is designed to make the sport-oriented driver happy, although we wouldn’t expect most drivers to regularly max out the zero to 60 times of 6.9 seconds or the top speed of 130 mph"
my numbers are from Car and Driver road test. Again every mag/ article is going to be different but I usually lean towards the ones who actually do test..not make them up on what they hear from other idiots.
Stock for Stock CLS will easily overtake it no question.

If you read the rest of the car and driver article the gli was brand new with only 12xx miles on it. That car wasnt broken in at all. So to say that the cls can Easily handle the gli is a little premature. Have you ever raced a stock gli? I have
Yea the car and driver GLI had 12XX miles on it..but 90% of the cars when they test have less that 12XX miles on it...doesn't mean their number are wrong just means most cars may get better times the more their run (Def. for the CL-S as well).
As for Stock for Stock...my opinion is that a Cl-s WILL take a GLI but like so many other people are saying if its chipped or anything else the GLI might slightly win.
I think we just need to see the results of this race.
