2003 Lexus IS 300 vs. 2001 Acura 3.2 CL Type-S

Both whips are stock except for cosmetic stuff.

My brother has the lex, and i have the ac. We've never raced them, but there's been some heated talk of who can burn who. I say my ride can, but there's some issues to consider.

The Acura weighs a bit more. It may have more horsepower, but the weight may be a factor. I also have 2 12's that may weight the mother down. Other than that, I guess we'll just to have to put the pedal to the metal to find out. I think it should be a pretty even match.

Any bets?

Drivers race. He may have the edge though since those subs probably give you an extra 100 lbs of weight at least.

When you run, make sure your Gas light is on. This will cut down on your fuel weight, giving evening out the extra weight of those subs a little.

If you are racing low end (0-60): Cl
If you are racing quarter: Cl
If you are racing freeway: cl all the way. The cl's powerband is at 75+ and gets to 120ish pretty quick.

0-60 1/4 mile
Acura 3.2CL Type-S (AT) 6.5 14.9
Lexus IS 300 (AT) 7.6 15.3

I have driven and raced both and would put a g on the cl. (assuming both are stock)

If he's a manual and a decent driver its gonna be close. Auto vs. auto and both stock you should have him pretty easily

if both are auto u beat him. no question about it. if it's a manual and he's experienced...you'll still win assuming you get a good launch. it'll be a lot closer though.

I test drove numerous CL-Ss and IS300s in my quest for a second vehicle, both in automatic and manual form and the IS300 doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, auto or manual.

I raced an IS300 coming back from nopi. I think he had exhaust and probably some other things. I jogged him. Pretty easy race, and he was a 5speed.

I have a CL-P no mods at all, and craped on a IS 300. Given I was in SS mode but while in third shifted at exactly 4500rpm and he was not ready

most of my friends have Lexus IS300. From the stop light, they're fairly quick in 1st gear if the IS300 is a 5MT, other than that, I think the CL can take on the IS.

A stock CLs is a minimum of 5/10 ths of a second faster in the quarter. This race would not be close.

Can someone please race one of those lame pre '06 IS 300's?

I was messing with a IS300 at a light and a friend of mine was behind me in a stock '01 CL-S. The guy in the IS300 kept going WOT down the street so I wanted to put him in his place. I went for it off the light and left both of them behind badly, my buddy said he managed to go from 1 car behind the IS to 2 in front of him by 90.

Raced man-o-is300's on the way to work in my '01 CL-P no mods. On the freeway in ss or auto, same on surface streets from a light. Always beet them soundly. Now the new is330 is a whole other story. Test drove one and they are damn fast. Faster than a BMW 330i, but they don't quite hold the road as well as the Bimmer.

The new IS350 is a beast but the pre 06 IS300's we'd destroy. Have you raced him yet?

depending on your mods, you should be able to be at least equal to a 350Z. My 300-400lb brother-in-law was drivin my CL-S 6 on the highway against a 350Z and they pretty much stayed together through 130mph (when the 350 backed off)

*btw mine's got AEM CAI, CT headers, CT cat-back w/ b-pipe
