New to the chicago area
hey whats up guys
just recently moved out here, close to N Lakeshore Drive and Weiss memorial hospital. Moved out from Jersey so im still getting used to being out here. two very distinct driving environments.
just wondering if ppl from the area can give me the run down of how stuff works around here. When is there minimal traffic on the highways, what roads/areas to avoid. best places for wash and waxes. honest mechanics and all that.
i usually drive on 90,290, 94 and 294. realized i dont need my radar detector, thing goes off every two seconds and i dont see anyone. using the waze app mostly for "heads up" on traffic and cops and all that.
things ive noticed so far, cant really drive fast here cause of the traffic at anytime. damn red lights literally on the on ramps to the highway really mess with me. 4 way stops everywhere, which is a good thing because of all the damn bikers and active ppl walking around with their kids, but its at every damn stop practically. POTS HOLES.....EVERYWHERE!!!!! and everyone is waaay nicer here, giving each other the right of way and letting them cut each other off. ppl dont like to take over and merge to the right, they just cruise in the left lane at the speed limit, slowing down traffic for atleast 20 car lengths. ppl brake hard and early. im used to bumper to bumper traffic in NJ and NYC, but here, theres a legit 20 feet between cars at times on the highway in dead stops. im trying to adjust cause "when in rome", but sometimes i just find it completely stupid.
i found two spots for carwashes
First Wheel Hand Car Wash
5601 N Lincoln Ave
Chicago, IL 60659
and
Norwood Hand Carwash
5462 N Damen Ave
Chicago, IL 60625
wondering if anyone had experience with any of em.
any added words of guidance would be much appreciated.... thanks in advance

thanks man, i started imagining doing crossovers with the car to avoid potholes in chicago. i enjoyed driving through lakeshore drive and downtown but i was driving 70/80 and realized that no one else was going that fast... is it a speed trap area? all the cops i see here are either parking enforcement or undercover that dont do anything to drivers.
