haha i knew i'd get shit for these claims. i do plan on starting a thread on the main page with before and afters, altho im not sure my 8.0 megapixel point-and-click will be able to showcase these fine details close up. in a nutshell tho ... i have dust bubbles scattered everywhere (mostly in small clusters), and imperfect seems (rough(ish) edges and overly-rounded corners) along the edges on the windows when rolled down. that doesnt sound so bad but i am a perfectionist and i think about it enough that the money is well worth it to me to get it right. when i took it back to ziebart to redo a quarter window i wasnt happy with (which he did) he told me "dust bubbles are unavoidable, everybody has them." well not my friend's car from autowerks. his shit is perfect. and his lines are cut so effing clean it's amazing. that is the best i can describe it with words. which isnt probably very good. ha

i paid 150 and my tints probably will look the same as yours. and if they aren't i don't know what they did different...

but overall bro, more power to you that you are getting some bad ass tits... i mean tints. good stuff.

keep in mind that about $100 of that is for removal. the back window is a real bitch to get off safely without damaging defrosters.

sorry....last post for me here (I know you are all thankful for that). i was thinking about it and i should not equate cost of tint job to quality of work. i have had one experience from which to draw my own conclusions, but that is no way indicative of everyone else's experiences. the bottom line is you can get lucky with a place, or you can get shafted. the key is doing your homework on a place before going there. scrutinize the work to whatever degree you care. balance that with what they charge and you can find your happy place. im out. good luck all.

kro don't leave the thread. its your opinion on how your experience went... for instance i paid 150 and i am happy with the work. i have two cars and both cars are in good shape when it comes down to the tints.

so your opinion is always welcome here. so don't let this be the last comment from "kro" we need more ppl in the chicagoland area to post and be active here. it gets dead in here. lol

^ya, let us know about Shaded Days. they have a link on their site to some Audi thread and everyone loves the place.

my personal experience: ZTech in Mundelein(?) not the best job. $240 for the whole thing - windshield. tinted AROUND rear brakelight and bad silvering at the top of the rear window. wouldn't recommend

Should get car back soon but the back window thing, the black dots on my car are pretty thick so its kinda hard to get that to look good imo. First time I tinted it i had him not cover the dots, this time im having them covered so will see. If it is too whitish i will just have them cut the top off and cover it with the roof spoiler. Also for the rear brake light mine had the cutout before. This time I removed my rear seats rear deck and the brake light so they have no excuses. I also have the spoiler light so its legal for me.

They did a great job applying the clear bra, and the tints look really good. They actually did a pretty good job on the dot matrix part. Dropped car off at 10 am and it wasnt done till 8 pm. Mark spent so much time on my paint protection and did an amazing job. Im hoping the dot matrix stays how it is now. I will take some pics tomorrow or later in the week once it is cured. Considering how picky i am I would have to say they did good work.

its really hard to get around the dot matrix. i have a few spots that my guy couldnt get rid off. but for $120 or $125 with life time warranty, i couldnt be happier. but i think im gonna rip the tint out in a few days, depending if i can get my tl started. then selling it.

now days window tinters use steamers to remove tint in one peice with no glue left on the window they just charge alot because it just sounds like a difficult task that people dont want to deal with and would rather pay someone else to do it

I paid $50 to get the rear tint removed. Depending on the quality of the tint and who applied it can determine how easy it is to take off and whether the glue comes off with the tint or not tho.

got my shit redone yesterday and it looks SWEET. First impressions are Llumar (sp?) is much better quality than the Solar Guard (or was it Sun Guard) that the first place used. It's already (in less than 24hrs) adhered over those little black (defroster?) bumps on the back window and the little "word area" on the front windows much better than my first tint job did in 2yrs. I haven't been able to roll the windows down yet obv, but it looks so glassy smooth and i didnt find a single speck of dust trapped in there anywhere on the car, unlike my first tint job. quarter windows are flawlessly done. all in all i am very happy and once again definitely think the extra $100 was well worth it. btw...they gave me free removals since i brought two friends who also did their cars yesterday, so we each were charged $325. Tint Removal was on my bill (for $125) but then zeroed out. i owe my buddies lunch or a couple of drinks since all group savings were thrown my way. = ) i would be glad to post pics, but as i was afraid, my befores just dont have the detail to really see the flaws. even a big ass cluster of dust/dirt isnt noticeable via closeup picture. you might just have to take my word for it.

Well I initially said i was happy with my tint from shaded days but since then things have changed. My passenger window has 3 sections with alot of small bubbles that never left, my driver tint has a chunk of dirt stuck under the tint that is about the size of a q-tip end, and the tint over my dot matrix on rear window has gotten worse and worse. Right now it looks like it is spotted black and white with different color patches. They are gonna replace the passenger tint for me next week but not sure if the other stuff is enough to fuss over. I just wish 1 thing about my car could go smoothly cause nothing ever has. I was out in a parking lot looking at all the tinted cars windows and i must say mine looked the worst out of them all. I expected better for a $250 job.

sometimes i think its just me cause I have never had anything go smoothly with work on my car in the last 7 years. Havnt had any work done yet were i havnt had to go back atleast once or more to redo stuff. I am really picky but there shouldnt be this many bubbles/issues imo. I noticed the edge of my driver tint on the back side dsnt even go past the glass. You can see the edge of the tint all the way up and the gap gets worse at the top. Oh well.

sounds like "dust bubbles" which Ziebart told me "everybody has." i can honestly say there aint SHIT anywhere in ANY of my windows now. smooth and spotless the whole way around. autowerks FTW. so hard to find good help these days. as a fellow perfectionist, i feel your pain. dont worry, no one else will notice and when you point it out they will just say you're crazy.

As I suspected, my camera cannot do the fine details justice between how much better my $325 tint is than my $225 was. BUT ... this is the closest I can come to doing my new one justice other than in person. Check out how perfectly these windows are cut. I can tell you my last ones were not half this clean, you could actually see where he started and stopped with the blade (very subtly of course), and the tiny gap along the entire window was nowhere near this consistent (was wider at top, narrower at bottom), and not even close to this tight and precise. Look how high and tight he kept it the whole way. Don't let the horizontal siding of the house fool ya. This shit is perfect. OK, I've said all I can say. I wish everyone luck in deciding what is best for them.

Forgot to add that I dont even know how he did the quarter windows as great as he did. I can't even find the seems of the tint in/under/around the weatherstripping or whatever causes so many tint jobs to look shitty in this area. I know this isn't a total closeup, but I think you can still tell how sweet it is. That's it. K bye

Hey guys, I'm in Gurnee and know a guy that travels from Crystal Lake. I'm thinking of getting my windows re-done to 35% all around. I'm gonna ask him if he'll do a group tint cuz I have 2 guys from work that want tint too. Anybody interested? I'll get prices this week for TL's, or what ever ya need.

$400 for tints???? that's the most outrageous price i've ever heard. for that amount of money, i hope the film is bullet proof. sometimes price alone doesn't determine the quality; with tinting, it's more like who is doing it and what film is being used. throughout the years, i have about 7 cars tinted by Sunbusters in milwaukee using Llumar tints. only needed the lifetime warranty once for some bubbles in the rear windshield after 6+ years. it was re-tinted with no questions asked. oh, i remember paying only $150-175 w/ lifetime warranty.

Last time I tinted my car at Midco Tinting. The guy name is Scott and he is very precise and not expensive at all. I paid $160 for all 5 windows but that was almost 5 years ago when I had my Accord...
Two years after he did my tint, someone broke my small (triangle) window to steal my jacket. I went to him to re-tint it and he did it for free. I tried to give him a tip but he refused.
His quality of work is very good. No dirt or any bubbles under the film and he cuts the tint very close to edge of the window. I was very happy with his work.
Now that I bought my TL, it already had tinted windows all-around but I'm thinking to visit him to get my car tinted (I want it darker).
If anyone is interested, please let me know and I will PM you his cell.

PS. I'm in no way related to him...just a happy customer.

Thankyou
Did they tint under the rubber on the rear 1/4 window ?
I had a TL Tinted at Shaded days and I asked them to tint behind the rubber and they didnt They did a great job, i was pissed they didt do the rear 1/4 window as they said they would.
I called for a quote 3-15-2013 and it was $275

Thankyou. I have had several Acura TL's Type-S. I had you tint one in 2007. I asked for you guys to tint behind the rubber on the side back 1/4 windows, and you didnt . I was pissed, but didnt say anything. The Job you did besides that was great. You also said Moleskin doesnt work. I found that without Moleskin the tint WILL SCRATCH bad. I also recently called other places and I get the same comments about Moleskin .. I feel like a Chicken without a head. What is the deal with this ??? I just want my windows tinted, and I want to know what the heck to do ??? HELP ME MR WIZZARD ???
