Good Mechanic in Chicago?

Hello everyone,

Fairly new here.
I was just wondering if anyone can make any recommendations on a reputable mechanic in Chicago?
I know of Haas Auto, but was wondering if there were any others that members might suggest.
Thanks in advance!

Cheers,
Henry

Hey Henry,

I also have an '03 CLS and I can't say enough good things about Drew at the Pit Stop. Here is their Yelp page. http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-pit-shop-libertyville-2

Great mechanic, honest and transparent, and very competitive prices.

KD auto shop on California and Devon on the northside. The most honest man you will ever meet. His name is Young. I have been going to him for the last 15 years and he has not failed me yet!

I'll second Drew ant the Pit Shop, but also point out he's way north of Chicago in Libertyville. If you can get up there, he's very trustworthy and knows Hondas and Acuras very well.

One Six Motorsports by O'Hare I have had good experiences with. His prices are incredibly competitive....I have been to Drew many times but I think his prices have increased since he first started

Moving out to Chicago in the Fall, good to know I can go to The Pit Shop for my RL. Does Drew run any kind of special pricing for Acurazine members or friend referals? Does he do major service like timing belt/water pump changes?

He definitely does major service. He recently did my 105k timing belt/water pump service on my MDX.

Sweet! Did you bring the OE parts, or does he take care of that?

That seems high, but what exactly is included in everyone's "105k service" varies. Ask him exactly what's in it, and ask others what's included in theirs. I think he typically likes to replace the water pump, the timing belt tensioner (the tensioner itself and not just the pulley) and other things like that since he's in the engine anyway. Other places will skimp and not bother with all of those items.

For example, on my 04 TL, I did the 105k service at the Acura dealer that had a special going. At 130k my timing belt tensioner started to fail and they had to go back in the engine. Another 8 hours of labor to pay for to replace a $100 part. Lesson learned. I should have just payed the extra $100 for the part when they did the 105k service since all the labor is the same.

Also, talk to Drew and see if he can offer you better pricing. Is he including an oil change, brake fluid service or anything else like that? Maybe there are items you can pass on for now and do them later.

For the 105k, he ordered the parts. Pit Shop can operate either way. I had other service done with them, where I brought in my own OEM parts.
