for my only car, one that would need to be somewhat practical i'd go m3 hardtop.
however for a weekend only driver i'd still go with the z06, much more distinctive look and still a better track car, though not by much.

Seriously though, anyone who sways in one direction or another in reference to picking a car based on what girls think of it......is stupid.
I would go with the M3........love the looks, drives great. The ZO6 is hot, but I had a 99 6pd and my buddy has a 01 Mill Yellow 6pd (so I'm sick of looking at them). Definitely think the Vette would make a better toy though, without a doubt.

Chicks wouldn't appreciate an M3. They'd think its a 3-series - and wouldn't know the difference at all! They'd jock the 'vette.
Trust me... chicks dig exotic-looking cars - the NSX was a hit!

My buddy has a //M3 Convertible, 2002, with AC Schnitzer rims.
Its a wicked car. It will BOUNCE for a droptop.
I'd take the Z06 though. Those things are fucking amazing. 405HP vs 333hp
You're also comparing apples to oranges. The 2 cars aren't even in the same class.

No, seriously, I've said this before and I had to make the same decision:
First off, how is an M car line is not exactly 'legendary'. It's been around since 71' with the M1 it has a heritage over 30 years I know it's not as long as the vette but I think the respect is the same as far as type of car goes. The M represents the motorsport line of BMW versus the singular corvette which is one car in it's own class.
As far as one over the other here was my rationale:
Z06 Pro's (12.4 1/4 Mile) WOW!
Z06 is absolutely the definition of brutal in your face speed
Z06 has razor sharp handling
Z06 has major looks to go with it's major style
M3 Pro's (13.3 1/4 Mile)
Fully functional interior with optional DVD Navi, SMG, offers same features as 3 series.
Responsive and sharp handling but not spine punching and ok for the longer rides
A 3 series on steriods
Z06 Cons
Extremely harsh ride much like a Carerra for daily or long distance driving
Insurance rates are unbelievably high, not very safe ($736 a month for me)
Ghastly interior and very limited functionality for the price
M3 Cons
Styling subtle to it's performance some say, too little
Not the best in rain or snow
Pricey
I chose the M3 because it does everything extremely well and is more functional than the Z06. BUT if I was buying a strictly weekend car it would be the Z06 without question, but i would like to have an M3 for the weekly commute.

Well the Z06, BMW has had some probs with the M3's engine...lol.. Never with the (a) Vette! Also the vEtte is cheaper maint and repairs, and oil changes! The M3 looks like, in some ppls eye, a riced out 325ci, the vette is unmistakably a V8 musclecar. So my vote is for the vette, but if u get an M3, get the hardtop.

Many owners had to go through getting their engines rebuilt or the long and painful process of getting their cars bought back by GM.

car and driver compared both....almost the same price bracket almost same performance specs. ($48K-$50K)
Z06 did better in handling on the track....m3 felt better on the road...
AND even tho the z06 won the accelration and handling test, they gave m3 the 1st place. (which is another reason why i am thinking and rethinking wat to get)
$765 A MONTH FOR INSURANCE??? is that for real?? that ois plain out scary..Any info on how much the insurance on the m3 s are?

I drove a 02 Z06 today for a while. My friend had me drive it over to his shop so we could install an intake. I was extrememly impressed with the car. It is by far a better performance car than the E46 M3. After driving both cars, you really cant compare them. You really are comparing apples to oranges, like someone said before. If you want a luxury car with great performance, buy an M3. If you want a true sports car, go with a Z06.

This is still just as hard a question as when eclipse asked it. For me i'd go with the M3. It may be slower but to me its more refined and i like the luxury car type better.

my preference would be a z06. M3's are having problems with their engines plus if you get a z06 in black(even though its a bitch to keep clean) that car just looks fuckin mean as shit. You see that thing pull up next to you and your like.........damn. The m3 however, dime a dozen everyone has them plus if you want the speed go z06. If you want more luxury why not go all out and go m5. But definitely go z06, thats my opinion

Z06 ALL THE WAYYYY!! i saw some Z06's doing autocross yesterday it was absolutely INSANE how well those bad boys handle, there is NO WAY IN HELL an M3 will ever beat a Z06 in ANY performance catergory...breaking, speed, cornering, handling, etc....the M3 may be german engineered and more luxury, but if you want pure EXCITEMENT, Z06 is the only way

hehe, car and driver ALWAYS ranks bmw first, doesn't matter if the zo6 drove circles around around the m3, bmw can nevar lose.
i'd go with the zo6 also, car is badass, especially with the aftermarket titanium exhaust, sounds o so sweet.

Vettes are waaay more common than M3's, the ZO6 doesn't look much different than a standard Vette (has different wheels, side vents) besides being in the hardtop configuration. Before the hardtop became known as the ZO6 in 2001, it sold like shit because very few buyers liked the hardtop's looks (99-2k model years).
Basically, you can get everything on the M3 that comes on the M5 (so luxury is equal).
The ZO6 is a badass car, but looks wise IMO.......M3 all the way

In my area E46 M3s are a dime a dozen. You honestly cannot compare an M3 to a Z06. They are in two different classes. Once you drive the Z06, I think you will pick it. You cant beat the sound of a V8. The M3s engine/exhaust sounds like junk. Dont believe me, stand behind one and listen as it takes off. The car has a real raspy note to it, almost like something is lose. My friend installed a Supersprint Cat-back and its still there.
