Would you get a Focus RS or Civic Type R?

A WRC car has a lot more in common with a street car than an F1 car does. WRC cars have a direct street counterpart, yes the WRC car is beefed up but there are many shared parts from race car to street car. F1 cars are the pinnacle of engineering yet a teams success on an F1 track doesn't trickle down to street cars.
Personally I think the conversation is valid but it doesn't help the honda crowd. The ctr will have exactly 1 thing in common with a honda F1 car and that's the logo on the hood.

Beyond the WRC cars being based on a production car, it & Formula 1 have a lot more in common in regards to how they're made than either Honda or Ford's showroom cars in comparison.

I brought up Honda because Honda Motor Co. Builds motors. Well, engines technically. Saying ford is better because they have rally experience is kind of odd to say since Honda has built some seriously bad ass engines in its career for anything and everything. Additionally, although the turbo VTEC I4 is new, it doesn't mean it's not going to be a marvel.
Honda didn't stop making the first gen RDX because the turbo system was garbage. Where'd you get that from? They also produced the first gen from 2007-2012. That's a LONG time for a Vehicle. Clearly didn't do that bad.

No one said stuff an F1 engine into a civic. You started this debate about Honda's lawnmower experience and Ford's rally car experience. All I'm saying is that Honda has a ton of racing pedigree, and as Rick has mentioned, a rally car has very little to do with a production car- hey guess what, just like an F1 car has little to do with a Civic.
What Honda did do is build v6 turbo engines with a stupid high redline. You think they can't build a solid, reliable and potent 4 banger turbo with a redline less than half of the F1 engine?
Common, man...

Huh, who knew it'd be so easy to get people with "H" tattoos on their foreheads riled up.
1. So why'd they drop the turbo engine and switch to the V6? 2. What Sarlacc said. It's not "LONG" at all.

WTF does Ford WRC have to do with anything? Ford pulled outta WRC in 2012..
A PRIVATE company called M-Sport runs THEIR OWN modified focus' (foci?) in the WRC... Ford does not design the WRC cars or their powerplants anymore.. M-Sport sublets that work to another private company. Ford may supply vehicles and support the company, but they DON'T actually build the cars themselves. There's zero chance in hell that the Focus RS shares anything at all with a WRC car..

I've got a buddy that has had a regular Focus hatch but now has a ST. The difference between the two is black and white. If I had to assume that the RS is the ST on steroids, I'd have to say the RS will be mind blowingly good.
Another thing, this a perfect example of styling. Both are over the top, have the same-ish styling ques but one looks like a 16 year old that has played Need for Speed for too long got a crack at the drawing board. 2 pipes on a 4cyl is already kinda stupid for cars that are trying to promote agility/lightness, 4 is lunacy. Plus that split window Prius/Aztek thing is never a good idea.
RS gets my vote. Love me some Honda, but I can't take the Type R seriously.

2024 Honda Civic Type R
It may be obvious, but the Focus RS is my clear choice.
I absolutely love my Focus ST, but after having a modified and tuned FWD turbo-4, I really don't want FWD again. The great thing about the Focus ST is that it can fool you into thinking it's not FWD when you get some great lift-off oversteer, but fighting for traction while accelerating from a stop is not that fun in my opinion.
I've had 34,000+ problem-free miles so far. My experience with Ford has been terrific, and I'd gladly continue to be a customer.
On top of all that, my lifetime average MPG is 27.1.

Dude, some of us have been here for 12-13 years. You're being ridiculous. I wanted a CL Type-S in 2001 so I joined this forum. Acura doesn't make anything I want anymore but there are plenty of reasons to stick around this forum.

There was a "Ford Event" here at the Rose Bowl, where tehy invited people to drive the Focus ST, FIesta ST, and the FUsion. They also had Camry etc, to show the competiton.
I didn't care much for the Fiesta (I know lots of people love it). The Focus ST, I felt drove better than my MS3. However, I couldn't get over the interior of the Focus ST. Seats were amazing, but the rest of the dash and the shifter wasn't to my liking. That said, the design was gorgeous.
Having seen quality of Fords in the 70s/80s, I am not surprised your ST has been bulletproof. There is a reason the Focus always wins car of the year in Europe. It is a great machine.
I am really looking forward to the RS
Are you going to trade yours?

Tell me how much you think a new car costs these days... If you think paying $30k for a Ford is crazy, why do people spend $45k for an Accord with some nicer leather seats?
Uhh...other than the front door panels and the hood, a WRC car shares nothing with its production counterpart. The entire chassis is seam welded shut (other than doors/hood) for integrity and stiffness. The interior is ripped out, suspension, subframes, engine, wheels, tires, underbody, windows, etc are all different.
Saying that a WRC Focus is just like a normal one is like saying the NASCAR Camry is just like the normal one.
Anything can be a dildo if you're brave enough...

Personally I think the conversation is valid but it doesn't help the honda crowd. The ctr will have exactly 1 thing in common with a honda F1 car and that's the logo on the hood.

Right, because all the "Ford isn't reliable at all." and "I won't buy anything besides a Honda." comments that started on the first page were really keeping this thread on track.

I also drive a Mazda, lol. Aka Ford. To some degree.
But apparently liking one model makes me a fan boy. Even though I wouldn't piss on half of Honda's and Acura's current lineup if they were on fire.

Yeah, as much as I loved my MS3, the driving feel in the corners was becoming an issue for me late in the game. It wasn't really that "fun". It was stupidly fast in a straightline though, that's for sure.

the manual EX-L with navi starts around $32..
but yes, adding $13k in accessories is doable.. but certainly not for leather seats.
but I think I know what you were getting at.

haha, not to nitpick.. but to get a V-6 accord to that price... you'd have to ask for the "sweep the floor" of every accessory they offer.

Maybe I should have given a Honda little more props; they're back on top of the FWD segment eclipsing the previous FWD by 4 seconds.
For reference, 7:50 is up there next to the M3 GTS, C6 Z06, & 997.1 Turbo. 6 seconds quicker than the legendary NSX-R NA2.

Yeah, that's just outright ridiculous. I don't know how they did it. I'm happy to see them push the envelope, just sad that we probably won't see it here. That is some very impressive company, a 7:50 'Ring laptime...
That said, I prefer the RS

I don't know if this is coming to the US. When I was in Greece a few years back the civic type-R was such an amazing looking car. In regards to the thread, I really like the RS. Smaller turbo engines are becoming more and more popular. They both have awesome styling, both great vehicles.
