Would anyone consider the '09 Mazda 6 S GT over '09 TL

Just browsing for what is new out there. The new '09 Mazda 6 S Grand touring with Nav, Bose and moon roof is MSRP of $32,6xx. Close to a non-tech TL. I have not driven it but has similar HP and Torque. Anyone driven one of these or not since they are not considered "entry level luxury" and a TL owner/buyer would not be in a Mazda 6 category of cars. Size seems impressive, trunk has over 16 cubic feet and a ton of features(some that the TL does not even have) Thanks

Before I had a 3G TL i had a mazda 6GT.... i considered it a big upgrade. I don't even know why I'm answering this question.

Why stop at a Mazda 6?....you could add a Camry LE/SE V6 or an Accord V6 or a Mustang GT or even a Chevy Cobalt SS....the list goes on and on....all these cars are all under $40K and give similar performance numbers to a TL.....but I think the vast majority of buyers looking at the TL will most likely cross-shop vehicles in its own segment (like a G35, BMW, Lexus).

Mazda 6 would probably be closer competitor to Accord EX-L. I owned a 62 in 93 and was not impressed, too many issues witht he car, in the end too much influence from Ford (co-owner).

I wouldnt even consider that ford...ehem mazda in the same category as the TL. I personally like the new 4g and cant wait till i get my hands on the 6mt version. Ill take mine in WDP!
For the rest of you guys....if u dont like it...keep your 3g or go jump ship to a "comparably equipped" BMW or mercedes or lexus or maybe even a mazda 6.
Everyone had the same shit to say when the new accord, civic, audis and Bangle era BMWs came out. Those cars all had the same thing in common, everyone voiced their dislike for the way they looked but eventually came around. Those cars all sold and are still selling very well.

I have driven both cars. Maybe I can give you something of substance. First of all the TL is much more a luxury car then the Mazda. Fit and finish is also better in the TL. Nazda us not as smooth or fast, if that matters to you. The Mazda does have good low end torque were as the acura has to rev.The Mazda is more pleasing to the eye despite what the cult followers say. The trunk is massive in the mazda and I would call the handling even. Do know you will be stepping down buying the Mazda but saving lots of cash. Its a very nice car and one I even considered to replace my leased RL. Take one out for a spin, that is the only way to truly know if you can live with it. I have test driven everything from smart car to Jag XF.

<--------Thinks the new Mazda 6 looks 100 times better than the new TL (exterior anyway). Still, this is a strange comparison. The TL is obviously a much better luxury car.....

If we are talking base on just exterior design.

to the Mazda 6... to the TL.

...but then again almost everything on the road looks better than the new TL.

Absolutely not....and I'm sure the new TL design will grow on everyone; it's starting to grow on me...until I see the rear end.

Dude, please. Mazda is not Ford. Ford owns 33% of Mazda but it's quite obvious from the fact that Mazda USA does NOT suck and Ford USA does that your little dig is unwarranted.

I think the new 6 looks pretty damn good, but it is not in the same class as a TL, so it's an odd comparison. The 6 is an Accord competitor.

I don't see why considering the Mazda-6 is so far fetched? Although Ford has their hands in things they have come a long way in terms of quality and they are not the Mazda of the early 90's. The new Mazda 6 offers allot for the price, and it's not a bad looking car. The Mazda has plenty of power a 3.7-liter V-6 of 272 horsepower is nothing to sleep on compared to TL's two engine choices the 3.5-liter V-6 with 280 horsepower for the front-drive base car, ($34,000 range which you would probably get) and the 3.7-liter, 305-horsepower V-6 for the SH-AWD, (which pushes the price into the $42,000 range.)

Of course the new Mazda 6 does not hold a candle to the 4G Acura TL in terms of interior quality and fit and finish but in terms of exterior design I think they are pretty much the same. Love it or hate styling on both ends. The 4G TL being more on the hate it side (The styling has to grow on me). But if you’re a brand whore you get the bragging rights and more people interested when you say you purchased a brand new Acura vs. a brand new Mazda. It all depends on what's important to you.

I think the new 6 looks great, at least that's what I thought when I glanced at a white one I saw driving. I haven't seen the new TL in person, but I'm not very impressed by the pictures. I would have to thoroughly inspect and drive both to make a decision.

wow

The new 6 puts the new TL to shame looks-wise. I don't know about the new TL growing on me.... could I say that its shrinking on me? It grew on me to a point, but now it's looking uglier and uglier each time I see it, especially when side-by-side with another sedan of the same size.

What a waste of a great interior.

I would.

Although, I don't think I'll be considering Acura for my next vehicle, period. I do agree that both cars carry very different perceptions. Acura is definitely seen as a more luxurious car to others than the new 6.

I tested a new Mazda 6. Love it.

I'd get it.

As for the TL, I hate the straight gate shifters.

The what of the what?

There is a glass partition but also black plastic over part of it.

Most Mazdas have it. My MS3 did. Looked fine.

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a Mazda 6. I've driven my friend's 04 Mazda 6, and it is very fun. It does eat a lot more gas thou.

Finally, the best reason to get a Mazda 6 is for the service. My friend gets better service from the Mazda dealer than I do from the Acura dealers. My friend had a lot of parts replaced under warranty with no questions asked from brakes to transmission. Plus, he gets $10 oil changes. Why would you ever want to change your own oil?

No, after seeing and sitting in the new TL in person, I can deff say it looks a LOT better in person. The rear actually looks pretty aggressive, and it was just the base model. The only part that really doesn't flow is that damn grille, otherwise its a nice looking car, just not very photogenic. The interior kicks ass though, I don't think there is anything on the market that comes close.

I had an 04 Mazda6 s and if the new one is an improvement in the way it drives, I would definitely consider it over the new TL because it drove very well. The new 6 looks stunning too

The new TL would be one of the last cars in the 30-40k range I'd get, just based upon the hideous design, both exterior and interior. I'd MUCH rather get an 08 Type S over the new crap.

The 6 on the other hand, is quite the attention getter.
