Two negatives I found about using the GoPro as a dash cam:
-Can't clear the storage card from the cam itself
-The protective case doesn't have an opening to plug the cam in for recording and charging simultaneously, or to operate the camera with the USB cable only.

searched for the iTronics one and found a decent amount of reviews on Amazon that said it was good. However they are not in stock. Also they have zero items for sale on ebay and their youtube account if actually theirs was revoked lol. I think something might be up.

Yeah those two things would make me weary of using a GoPro for a dash camera. I would also like one that has GPS speed readings or maybe I don't if that could be used against me.

This thread sparked my interest in one of these cameras for sure!

People suck

Check out this site, they seem to have a bunch of good products for situations like this:

I thought the 2nd one he posted (Eagle dash cam in you tube vid)looked pretty cool

Yes you can. Go into settings, you can delete the last recording or format the entire card. Per the instructions:

DELETE LAST FILE SAVED
When “LSt” is on the LCD screen, you can delete the last file saved to the SD card:

To delete last file saved to camera, press SHUTTER button when
LSt is on screen. LSt will start blinking as a warning.

TO CHOOSE NO DELETE
“LSt” will blink for 5 seconds. If you do nothing...”LSt” will stop
blinking and the fi le will NOT be deleted. You can press the POWER/
MODE button to advance to the next option in the SET menu.

TO CHOOSE YES DELETE
If you press the shutter button while LSt is blinking, you will deleted
the last saved file from the SD card. Red LED on front of camera will
blink while card is being formatted.

DELETE ALL FILES AND FORMAT SD CARD
When “ALL” is on the LCD screen, you can delete all files and format the SD card

To delete all files and FORMAT SD card, press SHUTTER button when
ALL is on screen. ALL will start blinking as a warning.

TO CHOOSE NO FORMAT
“ALL” will blink for 5 seconds. If you do nothing...”ALL” will stop blinking
and the SD card will NOT be formatted. You can press the POWER/MODE
button to advance to the next option in the SET menu.

TO CHOOSE YES FORMAT
If you press the shutter button while ALL is blinking, you will format the
SD card, losing all files and data. Red LED on front of camera will blink
while card is being formatted. IMPORTANT: this will format you

True, the case doesnt have an opening, but you can charge and record simultaneously. If you dont want to cut a hole into the case, you could always buy their skeleton case:

http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/...leton-housing/

Or even buy the extended battery pack:

http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/battery-bacpac/

I have mine mounted on my windshield. I need to get a larger card though, all I have is an 8GB card. Im also thinking about using a smaller mount, but for now, this works:

Hide your radar!!

Its actually not that bad, Its mounted in such a way that it doesnt impede my vision at all. But, Id like to run a usb cable through the headliner to charge the camera with and mount it higher, probably on the pass side of the rearview mirror.

I really want to get an STI-R Plus but they are so much money however then I wouldn't have the radar issue.

That awesome. I would I could get a blue remote display for the STI-R Plus so it would match the F gauges. You can only get blue with the 9500ci though which is older and I don't want the laser pieces anyways cause they are terrible.

Thanks!

I must have missed that tidbit about removing previous files while reading the instructions! And thanks for the info on the skeleton case, I was looking to buy a spare case to hack up with a hole for connecting the USB cable. I was aware you could record/charge simultaneously since Ive done it before

I have one of the sticker mounts right behind the rear view mirror so it hardly blocks my vision.

Just read that article where they were able to get this guy's personal info off of his license plate. I wonder if those who don't see the need to block out their license plates online will have a change of heart after reading this.

I block my plate out in pictures. Problem is that when people post pics of my car they rarely remove the plate so you still end up with your plate online. I have recently thought of removing my plate at car meets to counter this though but my luck I would forget to put it back on.

Acura still can't get a break.

Last Thursday, Ajax resident Raguruban Yogarajah and Mississauga student Herman Sham were involved in a fender-bender on the 401. Neither dispute that while they were stopped in cramped rush-hour traffic, Yogarajah’s black Honda Acura rolled backwards and bumped Sham’s Subaru.

What I don't get though, is even if he let go of his brake by accident, Sham honked a bunch of times when the car started rolling back...did he not hear it???

His bumper came up about half way on top of my hood until his tires got stopped by my bumper. He rolled back forward, before he can even put his car in park, I was outside his window screaming at him. The twist was, I used to be an Auxiliary Police Officer at the time, and I was coming home from the precinct when this happened, while still in full uniform. He made up excuses, and although I saw his insurance card and registration, I called the station house, identified myself and within minutes, my superiors were on the scene. He made up excuses with them too, and said I rear ended him. He did not show his reg or insurance card to them, said he didn't have it (I saw it, he lied to them). Long story short, I ran his plates at the precinct, got his insurance info, and made the claim with his insurance company. It took them about a month before they got him to call them back, and at that point I already sent them a copy of the accident report. They asked me if I saw any damage on his car prior to the incident, I said none that I recall, and they said he made a claim that he was rear ended a few weeks back and they paid to have it fixed. They finally got through to him and he accepted liability for the incident, and I got my car fixed. Bitches!

P.S. I picked myself up a GoPro HD Hero2 recently...Good stuff!

Not a great pic, but this was me in uniform back in the day...Respect my authoritahhhh!

Yea...and it doesn't matter how sunny it is, when people brake, you see the lights. Didn't see his brake lights on the highway or off to the side in the shade. Police should've had him test the brakes right there...they would've seen that his brake lights don't work.

"He does, in fact, have a lengthy rap sheet of Highway Traffic Act offences — 26 in four years — but most are for licence plate issues and speeding, and he has no criminal history. He believes police stop him more frequently than others because they are suspicious of a young man of colour driving a nice car."

If only HeartTLs drove a TSX, we would all know his name and what he looks like.

I mean a TSX isn't a bucket, but it doesn't stick out like a 7-series.

+1 for the GoPro. If you're going to use it only to monitor driving like the video review, that might be a better option. If you want the versatility of using it damn near everywhere, the GoPro is the way to go.

Oh, and get the LCD screen too if you get the GoPro...makes it that much easier to help avoid the trial and error when mounting it and knowing if you mounted it to view what you want to see properly. Plus you can use it as a digital camera at that point too..
