dumb thread.

What classifies a product to be American and not American? Being built by Americans in America or foreigners and slapping an American badge on it? It's a global product now.

JS + XES 12-19-2011 01:40 PM

stupid threads gonna stupid thread

although i understand your point, would you really not call a Ford vehicle an American car?

justnspace 12-19-2011 01:42 PM

I'm sure if you modified something that wasnt supposed to exceed a certain speed, rpm, etc....you'll blow something in a japenese or euro car as well.

the driver def. exceeded the maximum limit of the drive shaft.....and he paid the cost for it.

fuzzy02CLS 12-19-2011 01:42 PM

At least the trans didn't fail at 70MPH & go into limp mode like the Acura's.....

Just saying......

JS + XES 12-19-2011 01:44 PM

all cars can go :boom: for some random and dumb reasons.

justnspace 12-19-2011 01:44 PM

OP, try again.

ggesq 12-19-2011 01:45 PM

Based on its name, yes . . . otherwise, no.

It's interesting as there have been a few driveshaft failures with the 2011+ Mustangs but from everything I've read it has happened after being run hard at the drag strip.

The way I look at is that there's a speed limiter in place from the factory for a reason, if you mess around with it be prepared for a shit storm.

Exactly.

JS + XES 12-19-2011 02:09 PM

mods please don't move threads from TL section to Car Talk. :D

Hapa DC5 12-19-2011 02:40 PM

I vote for ramblings. Whose fault is it when they removed the rev limiter that was obviously put there for a reason and suddenly the driveshaft implodes.

AMUA6 12-19-2011 02:51 PM

I've never seen a speedo move so slow :chuckle:

gwiffer 12-19-2011 02:52 PM

Does anyone know what the failure point on the driveshaft was? I'd be interested to know if the shaft shattered or one of the joints failed.

dom 12-19-2011 02:56 PM

When or where is the Mustang marketed as a family car?

JS + XES 12-19-2011 03:07 PM

in OP's mind

phee 12-19-2011 03:13 PM

anybody have the story on this? i thought they were speed limited.

the driver removed speed limiter, thus why this is a dumb thread.
even after hearing noises(oh shit, something is breaking), the driver still didnt back off.

JS + XES 12-19-2011 03:21 PM

works for Chevy probably :O

Hapa DC5 12-19-2011 03:42 PM

Moral of the story, move this to ramblings.

They are. The v6 is limited to 116mph I think.

Just so I understand you, you're claiming you will never buy an American car because someone disconnected the speed limiter on one, ran it 20% quicker than what the limiter was originally set, all while filming while driving the entire experience, until the driveshaft let loose?

You actually don't have any idea how vehicles are designed and manufactured to be driven at predetermined specifications. Various models are often built with different components to suit varying applications. In terms of a Mustang, a GT is constructed differently from a GT500. A V6 is constructed differently than a Boss. The only thing this video proves is that there are particular individuals that should never drive anything.

Anyway, I'm going to go out now and aggressively drive my 6MT Accord until the tires let loose and I drift it into a tree. And then feel quite comfortable blaming Honda and consider it a representation why I'll never again buy Japanese.

justnspace 12-19-2011 08:12 PM

Terry, watch out for that treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
