Have you considered buying an old shit box civic or similar for her to learn on? I don't know of any locations that rent manuals (probably for the very reason you want to rent one).

I was trying to rent one for the same reason, but after checking with all near by auto renting places, neither of them carried a manual. If you are lucky you might find one, but usually these places do not carry manuals because people can screw up the transmission very easily.

Rent a moving truck (Uhaul) You can get the big trucks in manual...but then again, it's a big truck.

you can always look at extoic car rental places to get a manual although it wont be cheap and thats probably not a great idea. you will have a much easier time asking your friends if they would be willing to let you borrow their manual car than trying to track one down. you can always vacation in europe and rent one there

Go to a few different dealerships and "test drive" a few stick shifts...

All major rental co's do not rent manuals anymore. You may be able to find a mom & pop place that does. Dealers aren't a good idea since the sales guy will be in the car with you. The uhaul idea is good, but those big trucks with the manual are not really good to learn on. I'd say pick up some used beater that's stick for $500 or less. I seen a ton of them on Ebay.
