Whats up with the RX-8

I've seen good sign & drive lease deals lately.

Carsdirect has it for $23,841 too

Lack of demand?

yes and it did not help that mazda over promised on the cars horsepower. Beautiful cars but no power, and the car is marketed as a SPORTS car.

The car just has no balls to it. Rotory engine w/o boost =

They are heavy too. They weigh nearly as much as the CL (or at least I thought last time I checked).

I wouldn't say so. There is still a strong demand for small sports cars in the US.

Think 350z and G35C.

The demand is there, but the product just didn't deliver the goods; especially when you have two or more other fine offerings that offer much more "bang for your buck"

238 HP for $23,841 seems to be pretty good.

That is the EPA estimate. It gets more like 12-14 mpg based upon owner surveys.

I take both my CL-S and my RX8 to the track and the RX8 is usually slightly faster, stock vs stock.

Not in mine. I get 18-20 city, 23-25 highway. They have an ECU reflash that has helped the problem.

I love the car and for that price, go for it.
It handles like a dream. I regularly beat or hang with M3's at auto crossing events and it has plenty of power.
Plus 4-5 Turbo kits are nearing completion that will be producing power in the mid 300's.

Add in the automatic transmission, plus all the other options the CL has that the standard RX-8 and it gains quite a few pounds.

Don't spin it buddy

The CL-S is a pig. All the extra weight hurts the handling pretty bad. Auto crossing a CL-S is....an adventure.

FWD hurts it more than its weight. And it wasn't ever intended to be an Auto-X car.

Also, a automatic CL-S will beat an automatic RX-8 hands down due to the roughly 70hp difference. A 6MT CL-S will give a 6MT Rx-8 a good race.

The RX-8 is a nice car.

But it is underpowered, slightly overweight for such a small car, and it's looks aren't pleasing to everyone.

Did I say it was intended to be? The CL is an awesome sports coupe.

The RX8 and the CL are just two totally different cars.

I love each for their own reasons and they each serve different purposes.

I actually just looked up the stats.

The automatic weighs less than the 6MT I guess only having 4 gears in the auto makes it less weight than 6 in the MT.

The 6MT weighs in at 3053lbs.
