What's the best car magazine?

Hey everyone!

I've been a long time subscriber to Road and Track magazine and I had Autoweek for a few years. My subsciption to Road and Track is running out and I was wondering if anyone would recommend any other car magazine that they think is better than Road and Track. I was considering Car and Driver. Any suggestions/opinions would be a great help. Thanks in advance!

To get a flavor and perspective more on the racing side, I love Grassroots Motorsports magazine. I've been a huge fan of it for a few years.

For a magazine just filled with sex (figuratively, not literally) get Modified Luxury and Exotics. I had a year of it and it was the best year of my life.

EVO. By far the best. You will not find better car critiques anywhere in my opinion.

C&D and R&T are rather bland -- I can't remember reading anything from them truly memorable, nor have I seen them stand up and say a car just plain sucks.

EVO does long term tests of exotics, which I registered on their website to read. I only discovered it recently, but I've picked up a few issues from newsstands and its not bad.

I read C&D and R&T for years, but got tired of hearing about BMW this, BMW that. So I got Motor Trend and it's a lot better. I really like their editor.

My buddy lent me a copy of EVO once, that looked pretty good too.

Automobile is more of a lifestyle magazine with interesting stories, but they still test cars just not as technical as some of the other magazines. And I like that Automobile is a bit different from the rest.

Motor Trend is another one I subsribe to, and I like it too

Autoweek is great because they have good writers and it comes weekly which is awesome.

I subscribe to Automobile, Motor Trend, Car and Driver and Road and Track. The one I usually look forward the most to reading is definitely Automobile. Road and Track and Car and Driver are eh so so. Motor Trend would be my second favorite.

I like Automobile and Autoweek. I usually purchase Road & Track off the shelf as well. I subscribed to Car & Driver for almost twenty years, but found it increasingly one sided and opinionated and dropped my subscription a few years back.

I subscribe to C&D and though the articles are generally biased, I still find it one of the more entertaining general car magazines. Though the new graphs really suck. I subscribed to Automobile for a couple years but they got real boring, real fast so I didn't renew. I'm starting to like Motor Trend more but their style doesn't do as much for me. And making the new Camry Motor Trend's car of the year hurt their rep for me. (Don't get me wrong, it's a good people hauler, but since when do they give out awards for "Motor Trend Bland Car of the Year"?)

CAR...followed by evo.

Both are absolutely wonderful magazines...the GF gave me one of the best presents last year ever by getting me a subscription to CAR.

I just sent in my subscription after reading a couple of recent issues. It's pretty good, and I particularly like the pieces about older cars and the like. The recent one had a nice article about a guy lapping a 911 GT3 RS at the Nurburgring against Porsche's wishes

I've also been getting C&D for the last year, after getting R&T for the previous 5 years. I like both but they seem pretty much the same. I like the irreverent humor in all three of the mags I listed.

Automobile is the glossiest of the three, hence the higher cost (about double C&D and R&T). I'll give it a whirl for a year and see how I like it.

You can't go wrong with any of them. And they're all pretty cheap.

i am currently subscribed to:

autoweek: glad it comes everyweek, but half the magazine is filled with classifieds.

motor trend: childhood favorite. drawn towards the layouts. VERY GM biased now.

car and driver: love the comparisons. new layout leaves much to be desired.

not currently subscribed to, but still buy off newstands:

road and track: GOTTA love the ESPN magazine-like size.

automobile: great magazine

EVO: definitely one of my favorites!

top gear: gotta love the humor

I'm subscribed to MT, R&T and C&D and have been since 1993. C&D is my fav and I'm not sure R&T is really for me anymore I like what I see from Automobile when I buy it from time to time.

after thinking about it, Forbes, Money Magazine, and other non-car magazines are good for a taste of what non-enthusiasts feel about cars.

their reviews may be biased towards "image" and crap like that, but then again so are most non-enthusiasts.

I pretty much have every Car & Driver since November 1988.....which was the month I purchased my first new car (1989 Ford Escort LX) and became an auto enthusiast. (Also the month I began dating my wife of 17 years. )

I've subscribed to C&D for years, but recently the writing has become less entertaining and more infantile, the vehicles are less and less interesting, and the new layout absolutely blows. I might have to try the competition on for size.

I suscribe to Car & Driver, have since ~2000. I actually got a letter to editor posted once However, that magazine has since disappeared . I really like their writing, I happen to find it humorous, every so often they have a really cool story, sorta like a road trip. Read:
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...mans-land.html
&
http://www.caranddriver.com/features...nde-lande.html
Though they lack the pics of the magazine, they are some pretty neat stories.

But after hearing about it, I may have to find EVO on the shelf somewhere every now and again.

Best general interest US car magazines:

1) Autoweek (short stories on significant most motorsport events and drivers, weekly, good short reviews and mini-comparisons of various new vehicles)
2) Car & Driver (monthly, most willing to say a car is a POS or point out problems on cars in tests, despite the bias towards driving character, as opposed to reliability, in tests).
I've got subscriptions to Car & Driver (since 1982) and Autoweek (1982-1985 and 199?-present). I used to have subscriptions to Motor Trend and Road & Track before Autoweek, but still read them when I'm with the kids in the library. I've read a few Automobiles (the staff doesn't do actual testing, but uses numbers from manufacturers and other sources) and bought a few Car magazines (too much European machinery we can't get here). Motor Trend used to be very superficial (better now), but is too positive or neutral in tone. Road & Track lacked the edge that Car & Driver had, that ability to call a spade a spade.
Oh, and generally, too many reviews of f#$%^&! SUVs and other soccer-mom trucklets in all of the magazines... The only reason SUVs should exist is to act as race car tow or boat tow vehicles or for winter weather, and they should be banned for commuting and from my car magazines.

What's your opinion on this company? Do they sell your name or bug you with other offers? Or are they straight up?
