What do you mean where you get them?

Don't you see the link?

The point was not to point out the actual defects but only to show Gilbowoman what he was asking for.

"edited as courtesey to other members ", this proves/shows nothing at all, the initial post said it was so bad there was recall on it which there isn't, you've brought up individual cases..woopdy fucking doo, they outsell the MDX by a huge margin, so even a hypothetical 2% breakdown rate for both cars exist, there'll be a shitload more RX's b/c they sell a shitload more of them than the MDX. you can bring up a similar list for any large volume car and it means absolutely jack just like what you've posted here. Unless you post some example of a mass recall or investigation on large failure rates on the RX's specific components this means jack. and if this is bad b/c of individual examples, then why is there a recall on all those honda/acura trannies and none for lexus??? stfu and do us the world a favor.

I agree for the most part except:

-Reliablity:
1. Lexus
2. Acura
3. Infinit

I think this thread is dumb. But I do think that neither owning an Acura nor an Infiniti gets you any moxie with luxury car owners (it does with some non-lux owners IMO). Owning a Lexus does. They've successfully moved up - the other two should take note if that's where they want to go.

Lexus does have the problem called engine oil geling. It is commonly found in the 4 cyl and 3.0 and 3.3 liter V6. There is a long track record of this problem after 1997 for both Toyota and Lexus brands.

This problem will lead to the breakdown of engine oil in a faster rate. Toyota has so many claims about this problem but I am not sure whether they have a recall.

And I think your comments are dumb j/k

that's why i put lexus as #1 in terms of prestige and class something that Acura and Infiniti hasn't done.

damn, this has turned into some heat . well justin thank you for bringing factual data into the thread to replace my words. gilbo and sicklex, you guys should really think twice about ranting on about how me (or anyone else for that matter) is completly wrong or making "the worst post on the internet" or some related crap of that type until you get YOUR facts straight. granted i had absolutly NO textual evidence, why would i lie on the subject ? just so happend justin has textual evidence, so now what do you have to say? don't take it like im pissed or out against you, but come on, if your going to attack me like that, please get some real evidence. this is child's play...

ANYWAY back to the subject. regardless of J.D. Power rankings, many Infiniti owners admit the quality of their cars is below that of some Acura's (sorry no textual evidence, just people i know talking to me about it). However**, these people (whom are 2 friends and 1 uncle) own 2002 G35 Sedans and a 2001 QX4, respectively. The ranking were for '03 and '04, so maybe things changed.

i'm sorry, but i've never had total faith in "consumer advocacy" groups such as jd power, consumer guide, etc. much of the time they seem contradictory to me because their ratings can disagree with the testimony of people i know and my own experiences. also, "problems" is such a terrible phrase to use since there are varying degrees of the seriousness of said problems.

i do believe toyota does have the best quality, but i really don't believe nissan has better quality than honda (obviously this applies to their luxury brands as well). i know a lot of people who own cars from the big 3, and in terms of quality, most of them also agree with this heirarchy: lexus, acura, then infiniti (and their parent companies respectively). however, this is because the people i know also feel the new nissans aren't as good (in quality) as the older ones.

nonetheless, i'll take personal experiences over "studies" anyday.

ya man..to hell with any scientific studies or statistical analysis, we all just go by the experiences we have or have heard of, that's gotta be better than tens of thousands of results those studies use.

its the oil sludge problem, that occurs when people dont change their oil...so they deserve it IMO, thats as dumb as blaming the car when it wont start b/c you didnt put gas in it.

sarcasm duely noted gilbo. sorry, but people who rely solely on studies are generally people who can't make decisions for themselves because they are easily manipulated or too lazy to do their own "non-scientific" research. don't get me wrong, studies are fairly good indicators (i never said they weren't), but for me, empirical evidence COMBINED with more scientific methods of research has saved me many times from my own indecision or bad decisions.

btw, studies and results can also be skewed or biased just as much as word-of-mouth, it just depends on how reputable the source is.

gilbo is right

Personal experience certainly plays a huge role, but it can't outweigh the collective experience of thousands of consumers. Don't get me wrong, if the bolts on my Acura fall apart tomorrow and the engine dies, I won't be buying another one ever. But I'll believe CR in that the odds of that happening are lower than with a Land Rover.

You are certainly entitled to that opinion.

I guess what bothers me about this thread is... who cares? My ranking of the 3 jap lux makes probably isn't going to influence the world one bit. I like talking about the various makes, how they are doing, and particularly the new models that are coming out. But ranking them... i dunno, it justs doesn't do anything for me.

In comparison, the MDX just had a tranny recall.
Despite all your hyperbole and Gilbo's blind love, the RX still sucks.

Reliabilty.. definitely, no doubt.

Quality... depends on your definition. Our VW has a more nicely appointed interior with more quality-feeling components than some Infinitis and Acuras (TSX included).

The japanese makes are catching up in that undefinable word "luxury"... Lexus especially... but they are definitely ahead in terms of mechanical reliability.

Jackass...how can you say that a VW has more "quality-feeling components" than the TSX? Name two.

Who's being a jackass?

1. Steering wheel
2. Leather seats
3. Real wood
4. Rear-view mirror (solid)

This is just comparing our Passat to our TSX. I prefer my TSX, but to me it feels Japanese, while the Passat feels German, whatever that means.

4. Rear-view mirror (solid) - A LITTLE SUBJECTIVE NO?

All that German feels to me is unreliable and overpriced.

Well you are certainly entitled to your opinion. I've already stated that I prefer my TSX... I just think the Germans do the little things better and I hope Acura pays attention. Does anyone disagree with this?

I don't think the rear-view mirror is subjective - it is loose in the TSX, solid in the Passat. And GLX Passats do have real wood trim. Ours stickered for $30,600 but we didn't pay that.

Just thought of a couple more things I like on the Passat:

4. Heated mirrors that auto-fold
5. Tip down right mirror when backing up
6. Rear sunscreen

The TSX does some things better too, lots of them in fact. And I have real concerns about the Passat's longevity.

Jef Bridges is a good actor and it's not subjective, like your interior.

Yeah the Germans are great with offering all the goodies in any of their cars, but for the high price. The Germans use wonderful materials throughout, especially VW/Audi. I remember test driving the Toureg, wow. What wonderful materials. And although the TSX has a great fit and finish (if ANYONE disagrees, i.e. Gilboman or Sicklex, read up on J.D. Power's Initial Quality awards, it came 1 point away from the LS430, not that I'm saying it's an LS430 by any means), the Toureg was more like an Audi. Unfortunatly, the Germans don't pay as much attention as they should on mechianical quality (again if anyone feels the need to debate, J.D. Power has some information they may want to see...) If you guys ever watch an episode of Top Gear dealing with a German car (save Porsche), they sometimes discuss how there is poor mechanical quality. The Top Gear "CL65 AMG" episode someone posted not too long ago included the host saying it came with "typical MB poor craftsmanship". But VW/Audi (and Porsche) material is the best, 2nd to Lexus.
