What to tow with?
My mother is looking for a new tow vehicle which she can use to tow our 2.8k lb stock trailer. There may be at most, 1k lb worth of animals in the trailer. She wants something that is somewhat luxurious, and most of all, comfortable.
She loves the MDX, but it cannot tow that much weight. She is looking to spend around $40k. What should she look at?

tanks. father has one with almost 200k on the clock and still drives great, not one mechanical problem besides the usual tires brakes stuff.
perfect for towing. did i mention it gets 20+ mpg and modified they get better mpg with normal driving. and last time i checked diesel was cheaper then reg.

Are you people serious? To tow a 4k lb trailer a Explorer, Envoy/Trailblazer, 4runner and any other truck that size will be fine. All of them have the capability of towing of well over 5k lbs usually with no towing package and with the smallest engine, which is plenty of margin for a 4klb trailer. We used to tow our boat with our Envoy (I6 with 4.10 gears). The boat and trailer was 5400lbs and we never had a problem, even in some hilly areas.

my parents have a 02 explorer.
thing is def not made for towing. have towed some stone before and it wasn't ideal. sure you can tow a 5k boat with a s10 too. but when you have to stop in a jiffy it won't be pretty.
the weight of the vehicle makes a huge difference. even with surge brakes it still a PITA.
