What is RX-8 0-62mph times?

I saw these stats from a RX-8 forum:

Manual:
231 hp 0-62mph 6.4

Auto:
197 hp 0-62mph 9.5??????????

Am i missing something? How can it be that slow with 200hp? The only reason I can come up with is the 4sp AT.

Think about the 6MT vs. 4AT for a second. Think about how much taller the first 2 gears have to be to be the equivalent of the first 4 on the 6MT. Then two overdrive. Since 60mph sprint only involves the first two gears and this car really needs to rev to make power, the taller gear ratio really really hurts acceleration.

Mazda officially claimed 5.9 for 0-60. it should be 6.2 to 6.4 for 0-62(0-100kph).

My lil brother has one. Off the line it's not that fast at all. But on the highway, he terrorized an s2000. They hit the twisties and couldnt shake each other. When the road opened up, he started pulling on the S, albeit slowly.

Nice...GJ for ur bro...guess the 4sp manual's the major cause.
And o ya...i am trying to decide between a S2k (new or slightly used) and new RX-8...but the new S2k costs 10k CDN more, so i am guessing the used would be a few k off the msrp.
Thanks for ur input...

The RX-8 looks killer and gets him so much attention everywhere he goes here is a pic of his car:

The S2000 is an awesome car too, it's just not as practical for everyday use.

Very nice..which kit is on the 8? Are the tinted rear windows standard on the 8?
And very true about the practicality part...

The RX-8 is probably more livable as a daily driver. If it's your only car, don't be punished by an S2000's hard ride. But if you're getting it as a secondary car, I'd get the S2000. The RX-8 is sorta more thirsty at 13/9.8 L/100km (18/24 mpg). The S2000 pulls off 11.8/8.4 L/100km (20/28 mpg) which is much more reasonable. Although I can't see anyone taking it on a long trip. The good thing about used S2k's is they usually have low km on them. And I don't think anyone buying either of these sports cars cares much about fuel economy.

I'd buy an RX-8 if Mazda would throw a Turbo in that fucker. I';m not even asking for Twin's like in the last gen RX-7. Just one big one please

And what really pissed me off, is that the Mazdaspeed version doesn't even upgrade the engine much, just suspension and brakes I think. hell all the other Mazdaspeeds got Turbo's WTF

My Accord stock has no torque, shitty gearing, shitty tranny, weights a lot more, and has less hp than the Rx8 auto and still manages a 7.5-8.0 0-60 which would be like a tenth or two-tenths off on 0-62. I think that's a misprint. The car in auto trim is slower but not that slow. That's like Rav4 territory.
