What are the requirement to become ASE certified?

Is there a cost? A class or a test you have to take?

What exactly comes with being ASE certified? And how does one become certified?

yes and yes... usually there is a program in which you sign up with a technical school which will teach you everything you need to know to become ASE certified... When I researched this about 5 yrs ago, at the time it was an approximate 12-14 month program full time...

u will get your certification after you graduate and be able to apply for jobs at dealerships, shops...

you thinking about becoming a mechanic after hs?

Thanks for the reply....I have dreamed of opening up a small performance shop since I was 6 years old...11 years later, here I am with the same dream.
I am pretty mechanically inclined right now, but yes, I would like to expand my knowledge and experience. I already do all of the work on my car, friends and family as well.

How exactly does employment work, do you HAVE to be certified to get a job in this field?

Last I checked you had to have been working in a shop for a while to even become eligible for ASE certification...

Two years....

Two-Year Requirement

To become ASE certified, you must pass an ASE test and have at least two years of relevant full-time hands-on work experience in the motor vehicle service industry.
they do have substitution rules though. All the info is at the link in my previous post.

Depends on the shop. I never got certified because I was lazy. I worked at various shops over the years and none had an issue with me not getting the certificates. I suppose one day I'll get them done.

2 years experience and pass atleast 1 ASE test to become ASE certified; but being ASE certified doesn't mean you'll automatically get a good job. I worked at an independent for 2 years. I have several ASEs and over 5 years experience. The pay wasn't great though. They didn't want to pay just because I had ASEs and experience; they wanted me to stay there the rest of my life before I made $$$.

Since then, I've moved on to a training program offered by BMW.

Look up Universal Technical Institute(UTI); I went there. They have a great program, and they get you prepped for ASE tests.
