What do you think of the Mazdaspeed6?
I have been seeing a few threads about the mazdaspeed3 but am curious about what everyone thinks of its awd bigger sibling.

Drifting
I used to want a MS3 but after reading about all the problems people have been having... pretty scary stuff. Lots of people have had their stock engine mounts fail and have the engine drop randomly without warning, the guys on the forums recommend getting an aftermarket mount asap. Other people (with no mods) have been blowing up engines/throwing rods randomly with low mileage engines.

Got rid of my Speed 6 for a TL. The Speed6 was VERY fun for a everyday car, but would never make the power of the STI's and EVO's. Plus like the post above, people were blowing motors left and right, stock and modded. I didnt want to take my chances. I would say get a Legacy GT over the Speed6 if you can.

Yes, some people replaced the stock mount with a new one. I never did and had 285hp at the wheels. It shifted fine to me.
There was an issue with oil and the turbos that Mazda stepped up and replaced some turbos because of it but that was after I got rid of mine.
As far as throwing rods goes, the only people I have heard that happen to were mucking about with boost. I'm not saying it didn't happen. It's just that normally people aren't driving along and suddenly a rod goes kerplooey.

I owned a 2007. At lot of that is hysterical ranting that happens on every board. Like the catastrophic engine failures in the Audi S4 that really haven't happened in great numbers.

All those turbo high performance cars like STI, EVO, GTI have their own problems.
And a lot of those people who blew up their motors were teenagers, who are tend to abuse their cars alot. After they blow their motors, do you think they will log on Mazdaspeed forums and just admit that they abused their motors and it blew up?
No, they would just complain how Mazda makes some shitty cars with weak ass motor and exaggerate the situation. Go to Mazdaspeedforums.org and search "my motor blew up", trust me, every single person who blew their motor is teenagers who put so many bolt-ons without tuning.
As for the stock mount, yes, Mazda does use some shitty rubber mounts for Mazdaspeed vehicles that put down 280 torque. But the chances are, if you stay stock, it won't fail pretty much. If you decide to put some basic bolt-ons, just swap out the stock rear motor mount with some good solid aftermarket mounts. They cost about $100. Problem solved.
It's a cheap car, give it a break.

btw OP, if you are thinking about getting MS6, I think you should go with LGT or WRX. I mean if you want to get a AWD sedan, go with Subaru. They are the best, imo.

Just test drive the two of them if you think it's a car for you. A good spot for Leagcy info is http://legacyGT.com I'm on there with the same user name.

Outnumbered at home
there is no mazdaspeed6 anymore or am I missing the obvious?
6 is nice (I think Killer has one) but always seemed a bit heavy to me and not as much power as I would have liked for it. I have a 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 and am very happy with it. Fun as hell to drive, very tossable, and pretty quick. Great value.

The Box
I had a Mazda 6 for about 4 months last Winter, after many visits to the dealer (33K on the ODO), I sold it and will probably not buy another Mazda again just because of the issues I had and the stuff I read on forums.
MS6 looks cool, never drove it but I'd stay away because of my personal experience.

My advice is if you're looking at MS6, get a Subie.
The Legacy GT might not have as much power out of the box but if you're planning to mod at all, STI parts will make the Legacy better than a MS6.

And the only issue with a boxer engine is making sure you change the timing belt at about 60K miles.

Mazdaspeeds suck. I dont know about the new ones but the prev generation can't take the beating. I know of 4 people with ms3's and all have blown tranny's and/or turbo's. Not all of them beat their cars either and 2 were bone stock.
i hope the new ones are better.

When I owned a 05 Mazda6 V6 I was on mazda6club.com almost daily. The 6speed section was very very entertaining, so many problems like blown turbo, bad mounts, clutch issues. It was a soap opera cause you had the guys with good speed6 defending their cars with people with constant issues.
I myself had a horrible exp with Mazda, the damm clutch was never good from new. I love the way they feel and drive but the memories of mabye 8 dealer visits in 12k are still fresh in my mind. Meaning No thanks Mazda I'll follow your cars and be a fan but not with my cash.
Karma has a way, after the 12k semi nightmare with my 6 I went to a 2006 Accord and in 75k it has nothing needed.

i figure the LGT would be the closest competitor to the car I like the interior and exterior of the ms6 more but it is true from the basic things I have read that the Subie seems to have quite the motor and suspension. But i would figure if I got a subaru it wouldn't be the spec b.
