I have a friend who wants to get a car that has AWD, has decent power and is relatively fuel efficient - his last car was a '98 Pathfinder 4WD.
I looked over the options and this seemed like a pretty good deal. It's a 2009 Subaru Impreza Sport. What are your thoughts? He wants to trade in his Pathfinder and pay in cash for the car.

Sorry, can't really comment other than it seems like a nice car. I don't know too much about Subies, but those I know who have them really enjoy them. Maybe others with direct experience can chime in.

If your friend wants that car, then it needs to come down in price. Seriously.
That Imprezza is a 2009 2.5i, which means a 4 EAT tranny and 175 HP. Not good. IT's a quality vehicle with no sport. The better car is the WRX sedan, and that has the turbo, 220 HP.
You would be better off contacting a friend of mine at the following dealer in Rochester NY:

They will beat anyones (legitimate dealers) new price, and will go $300 under invoice of any reputable car information source (Kelly's Blue Book, Edmunds, etc...). And you can build and price it online. Give it a go and post a result. If you think you're too far away, my friend told me they just had a customer fly in from Alaska to buy. You're closer.

That looks like a great deal, but he doesn't want to deal with the hassle of importing the car into Canada. He's not looking for more power anyway - he just wants a nice car for commuting. Does the price seem too high just because of lack of power or is this car being sold for too much over market value?

In my not so humble opinion, any Subaru that doesn't come with a turbo (save the 3.0) is slow as dog shit and horrendously underpowered. That and they're called lesbaru's for a reason.

If you can get them to come down ~ 500 - 1000 and you'll be good. The interior, while being a bit spartan, has good materials. And the power will be fine if you're not going to hot rod around with it.
Once you drive in bad weather (and have good tires), you'll love it.
