Well, the TSX needed new wheels....ISF is back (Page 64)

Well not really but I picked up a 2008 Ultrasonic Blue Mica IS-F as a daily driver anyways.

Picked this up a little while ago but hey since everyone else is on a roll with these threads figured why not join in.

I can't really be taking the heavily modded TSX everywhere anyways without being extremely worried and afraid something would happen. I had been looking at IS350 and Infiniti G37 sedans however the Inifiniti dealers are not that close and I don't really want to have to take off like half a day just to get my car serviced so I ruled that out. Was looking to see if I could find a used S5 in the same price range even though a 2 door didn't seem very practical as my primary car since I like to carry lots of stuff at times. I then ended up finding the used IS-F for a tad less than a new IS350 and it only had 24k miles on it. lastly I did end up finding a blue S5 with the light grey interior but the best deal they could come up with on it was still about 8k over my budget and the IS-F was already a tad over my budget as is.

So I went with the IS-F and have been extremely happy with it. It looks amazing in Ultransonic Blue Mica stock and the thing is an absolute blast to drive. The only reason I was able to afford it was I used most of my graduation money from parents and relatives for a down payment so I could have reasonable monthly payment. Saving it might have been smarter but you only live once and I wanted something fun to drive on a daily basis.

So far I have put about 1600 miles on it in a little over 2 weeks cause it is just a blast to drive.

And since the thread title was about new wheels for the TSX it actually did get some.

So this thread has come full circle now.

The V is in an undrivable state right now. In the middle of January, I left my neighborhood and made it maybe a mile down the road and started heading a terrible noise. It is really only over 1700-2000rpm that you can hear it. It sounds like a card in some bicycle spokes. I took it back home. A few weeks later a guy I had met through the local V group came over and looked at the car. We checked the valve train out and it all looked good from under the valve covers. I then had it towed to his house for a larger deep dive. He checked for exhaust leaks, replaced the valve springs and plus. I way paste life on the valve springs for these engines. Unfortunately, we didn't find anything definitive. Sadly, the shop that built the engine had closed up shop about 3 years after they did my car. No one wanted to buy the shop and the guy just wanted to retire and spend time with his family instead of building cars. It was towed back to my house where it now sits waiting for the best LS shop in the area to have time to look at it. ETA I have from them is sometime late May to late June timeframe to get to it. They are hoping to have space sooner than that though so I can get it out of my driveway and also so if they have parts hold-ups on other projects they might be able to at least start tearing into it. It's a weird situation cause although it makes a noise that sounds terrible I didn't notice any loss of power when it happened and the oil pressure still reads 100% right.

About 2 weeks after the problem showed up my buddy that I sold the Lexus ISF to called me up and he was ready to move on to something new. When I sold it to him I asked him if he decided to sell to call me and let me have the first right of refusal. I have known him forever and he is like family and he kept his word. This car has been a car I have really missed since I sold it. Just the combination of power, handling, and comfort is great. So many newer cars these days keep getting heavier all the time. The exhaust note it has to me is just magical as well. We discussed a price over the coming days. Came to a deal and had some other things that needed worked out as well before I could go pick it up. The wheels he had on it were painted when he bought them so chose to refinish them. It also needed new rotors, pads, and tires. Had those shipped up and put on so I could fly up and drive it home. All of that took a little time. A little over a month and a half to get it all figured out maybe two.

So I have gone full @rockstar143 now. Yesterday I flew up to Pittsburgh first thing in the morning to pick it up.

I have always done crazy color wheels on my TSX over the years. Everything I own right now is bland. White, dark gunmetal, and black. I wanted something crazy again so I figured why not on these. They look so different all the time with the changing light which is awesome. At dusk and at night from more than like 10ft away they even look black.

Time to get on the road. Don't mind all the lights. It needs TPMS replaced.

It needs plenty of TLC on little cosmetic things and some rubber suspension bits. However, for being 14 years old and 147k miles it is in great condition as a drivers car. It's certainly not in collector car condition but I don't want that. I'm going to keep driving the shit out of the same as I did before I sold it. It's barely was driven more than a weekend car by my buddy. He put just under 9k miles on it 6.5 years.

I will give it a good refresh over the coming years but it will be fully taking over daily duties while the V is down and then they will split daily duties. I have some other plans besides just a refresh for it as well but those will have to wait a little bit.

so your weekend car is TSX and your daily is IS-F? I think you are doing it backwards. Nice car tho.

^ Not sure how you won't be worried about the IS-F.

Congrats, beautiful car.

Well the plan to not be worried about the F is that it doesn't get modded and doesn't get lowered. So driving around will be easier and since it's not a modded out the ass honda product shouldn't be a super theft magnet.

Check over the TSX build and then let me know if you would feel safe doing that.

I will try and grab some interior pics this week. Price was 43 plus tax and tags. Will be paying it off for a while but not worried since I plan to keep it for 5 years especially that is how long my CPO warranty is for.

Awesome! Congrats! I was in the same dilemma when I was graduating college - I needed a car (unlike you haha) and I had my eye set on a G35 - but after everyone got in my ear about how stupid it was to drop $35K on a car after graduation, I picked up a 4 Cyl Accord Coupe. Til this day - whenever a black G35 passes me by I still yearn for it....nothing like the feeling of being young and have an AWESOME CAR!

Wow, that's a lot of work into the TSX.
Curious, the auto trans can handle the additional power? If there's one thing I can't trust Honda to build, it would be auto trannies.

Nice ride. I went to the Lexus Performance Driving Academy some time ago where they had a fleet of IS-Fs to drive at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. It's a wonderful car. I was very, very impressed with what Lexus can do in terms of driving dynamics and performance. Most people think luxury and cushy ride when they think of the brand.

Have fun with it!

I think you did it right with the IS-F as a DD. This way, you can still get plenty of fun every day with a civil car, and your weekend toy is still that. Better than having a relatively boring DD and a shit-panting weekend car

Sweet car. It is funny that the IS-F is the daily. To me, you couldn't do anything to the TSX to make it a cooler ride than the IS-F (and I know how bad ass your TSX is). I bet the IS-F is still much faster too.

Either way, you have a couple of sweet rides in your stable.

Welcome to the family....you'll love your IS F...i know i love mine =)

My IS F today is 2 years and 2 days old and just rolled over 50,000 miles....brought her home with 6 miles on the clock.

(Sorry, iPhone pic)

Soooo many awesome things about the car....8 speed tranny will give you 28mpg highway, sport mode + paddle shifters make the car a blast to drive, put it in auto without sport mode and it's quiet like a Lexus should be, hit the WOT button with your right foot and nothing is cooler than seeing the car go from 8th gear to 3rd gear and feel the torque! Congrats again.

BTW...hopefully you do your own maintenance because a front brake job will set you back $900 in just parts, or about $1300 at a dealership (pads and rotors, depending on how you drive, around 25k miles you'll have to do it, i remember on my 3G Acura TL, it was like $300 for pads and rotors).

Having a performance car is cool, but the maintenance is expensive! Hopefully you make a lot of money for being 24 years old, or you still got some extra money from graduation left over!

Great choice. The IS-F, in that color is very nice.

I don't understand the idea of the IS-F as a daily driver replacement for the TSX. Those two just don't compute. However, I would get that the TSX will work better as a project car/show car, as it has been, since you've sunken so much money into it. Though if I were to see both on the road, the IS-F will win my attention.

BTW, I've always felt that the Ultrasonic Blue was a subtle callback to the Electron Blue of the SI, though with more cache...but whatever..
