Weird Accord
Saw this on the freeway today:
Didn't care much for it at first but I checked it out and the fender flares looked really clean and it it looks like the wheels were extended at least 2" out. The car had DST (distributor I think) plates on it. Anyone seen this?

Somehow the license plates look like a Manufacturer Plate which if it is so would suggest that MYTRAN got a lucky shot off on a Factory prototype of some sort. Wonder what Honda has up it's sleeve that needs those big flares.

Why would they use an 03-05 Accord sedan rearend and not the one on current 06+ Accord if indeed it is a manufacturer one?
Honda needs to bring back the nice styled 6th gen 98-02 Accord sedan and coupe and revise them for the 8th gen. Every Accord since 2003 has looked ugly and odd looking to me.

2009 TL disguised?
The next Accord? TSX? Who knows. It could be AWD.

Dammit! I was in socal just this past week ... missed it!
But it is interesting to see such an animal (ie test mule) do real miles on the road. If I was a betting person, I think it's to test out AWD on a platform. Car looks like a shell (but I'm basing this on really crappy quality digital pics)
Probably find out more about that car in a couple of years as a concept.

Ummm it HAS TO BE THAT high. The SH wont fit.
Test mule.
Look at BMW X models 330xi. All raise up a bit. AWD will do that to you every time. Even the mighty bmw cant hide AWD....well if u get sport package you can.
=p
But on this accord the SH-AWD will not fit and the bigger rims make it soo high. But its not that high. Looks like 19 inch rims and 4 inchs extra fender gap. meh.

Notice the new mufflers. I remember seeing a set up like that on a rear-drive 300M test mule in Car and Driver. As it turns out, that was a test mule for the rear-drive 300C. If you're adding a rear-drive set up on the back end of a front wheel drive car, you probably need to re-route the exhaust and, hence, the new mufflers.
Perhaps Honda is trying out the RL's SH-AWD system under the Accord chasis and decided not to shorten the half shafts. That would account for the wide stance and the increased ride height.
However, that begs the question, what would this be a mule for? What information is Honda getting out of putting the RL's driveline under an old Accord? My guess is that in addition to the RL driveline there is a new engine and perhaps a new transmission (six speed?) under the hood.
I for one would welcome an AWD TL. Test driving one last year, I felt there was just too much power in the car to have it all come out of the front end. I just hope Honda doesn't increase the wheel clearence on the car like BMW does on its AWD 3 series; looks ugly. If Audi can make nice-looking AWD cars, Honda should be able to do it too. Who knows, maybe the next TL Type S will be an S4 killer.
