Camaro probably nominated/won because of the retro/funk design.

True on all accounts. A little exaggeration on my part maybe but I'm still not a fan of the gauges on the Camaro, and I've always disliked the steering wheel and door panels

Burning Brakes
I sat in one at the auto show and noticed the buttons dont have any writting on them, apparently they only illuminate when the car is on. The only other "breakthrough" I can think of is that it has the smallest backseat of any crossover Ive ever seen.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
The outback looks very tasteful and the materials are pretty good, but even I do not know if it should have won. I'd have to see more of the competition.
The Sonata actually is growing on me, even though I knocked it earlier as quite a bit of copy cat styling. But the gear shift position is a bit odd:

only thing i like about the Sonata interior is the steering wheel design. the glossy trim, i'm not sure what it's supposed to emulate from the real world, but it's not fake wood or carbon fiber. Compared to its outside, the interior design is pretty safe.

Both of those interiors look like they could've been designed 10 years ago....Wood trim really needs to die off...seriously, unless its a Bently or a Rolls, why the FUCK is there wood in a modern car. This isn't 1991. It doesn't look classy, especially when most manufacturers just tack it on anywhere.

It's the first production car (maybe car in general) that covered concave panels with leather. Every other car with a leather dash or door panels stretches the leather over a convex surface (which is relatively easy). It may not be as revolutionary as Vtec was in the early 90's but it is something that has never been done before.
