Want a new car this year, thinking Acura or Lexus.

So Im a big fan of Acura/Honda based on my ownership of the Civic, TSX and TLS, the Acura TLX looks like a great car and it has that V6 to boot, the ILX dont look too shabby either and even though I love the V6 Im fine with a 2.4

So Acura has always been on my mind but I gotta say the Lexus IS300/350 are very good looking and have the power to boot, Honda/Acura is ever reliable but so is Toyota, its nice that the IS models are made in JP too.

I will say this, if I could afford an ISF I’d take it in a second.

Based on my budget I’d be looking at a 2015/2017 maybe and a budget of around 25k max, anyone drive all these cars? Thoughts?

Go with the IS350 if you can. You can find a 2016 around your price range. I don't know that you're going to do a lot better than that based on your parameters.

Reasoning
  • IS350 is awesome and has the correct driving wheels
  • Acura reliability has dipped significantly since 2015
  • The ZF9 in the v6 TLX is the worst transmission in the luxury car segment. It's an economy transmission in a luxury vehicle. You'll hate it
  • That leaves the 2.4L, which has a great transmission but is down 100 hp on the IS350. TSX would have the same problem.

I was curious about the reliability of the current Acura’s, they sure do look nice though, honestly I have been leaning toward the IS350 for quite some time, wanted to hear what people had to say on here though.

justnspace 05-05-2019 06:46 PM

What does reliability mean to you? Sure the Acura v6 is tried and true, but the tranny is not fun.

Midnight Mystery 05-05-2019 06:48 PM

Is350!

It's mostly that awful transmission. Hard shifts abound.

Another vote for Lexus IS.

Midnight Mystery 05-05-2019 10:22 PM

I drove a J35, ZF-9 combo a while back... It was awesome, but IS350 would kick it's ass!

Midnight Mystery 05-05-2019 10:27 PM

Just look at how fast! And this is the older gen!

iforyou 05-08-2019 12:32 AM

The newer gen is350 is actually not as fast as the older gen.

Oh really?

KaMLuNg 05-08-2019 07:32 AM

i'm lol'ing that everyone on an Acura forum is recommending a Lexus...

I mean, it is Car Talk.

rockstar143 05-08-2019 08:10 AM

That's sad.
I drove the TLX. Solid car and I didn't hate the tranny.
I haven't driven a newer IS but I did get slapped around in my modified TL by my co-worker's 2006 IS Tree Fiddy

rockstar143 05-08-2019 08:11 AM

Might I suggest you expand your search and go test drive a B8.5 S4?
It's about within your budget and I think you'll be shocked at how you feel
driving a dual clutch with a supercharged V6.

Skip the ILX. You'll regret it and will want to get rid of it after a while for the IS300/350 (or RCF350 :ninja: )

Hopefully you're not making minimum wage. You don't want to be making "payments of only $250 for the next 10 years!," right @justnspace :tomato:

littlelee17 05-08-2019 02:22 PM

I like the look of the TLX A Spec and that played into why I picked one up. I also had a TL before and traded in for another Acura to get more coin.

However, I really wanted a IS350 F-Sport. So......you do you man.

thoiboi 05-08-2019 02:28 PM

IS350 > TLX

/endthread

rockstar143 05-08-2019 02:29 PM

Apparently, even
IS250 > TL-S

:tomato:

Midnight Mystery 05-08-2019 02:31 PM

Apparently IS350 F Sport > TL 3.7 SH-AWD

350 :O

I wouldn't be caught dead in a 250

Unless your city is a giant parking lot...

Oh wait...

oonowindoo 05-08-2019 06:24 PM

Any car with ZF9 is dead to me....

With that being said, you need to get your priority list done... i would take Accord V6 or 2.0T before V6 TLX any day of the week.

Yea back when the 2006 is350, the test numbers were great. We are talking about 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds and 1/4 mile in mid 13s at 106mph.

The new gen, the faster I have seen is 14.1@101mph or something like that. It's about the same as a TLX.

That's still pretty fast, but wow!

What happened? Weight?

rockstar143 05-09-2019 06:05 AM

Nocturnal emissions regulations.

Midnight Mystery 05-09-2019 06:30 AM

STR8 pipe it? 💡

JS + XES 05-09-2019 06:50 PM

TLX is pretty underwhelming.

Go with IS350 FSport if those are the only two cars you are cross shopping.

JS + XES 05-09-2019 06:50 PM

IS250 is for asian girls who dgaf about the performance. No men should drive that. It's as slow as Prius.

No. I drove one and it isn't fast, but it still handles like a hoot! It's super smooth and quiet. And most of all, plentiful.

Midnight Mystery 05-09-2019 06:55 PM

I still perfer the 350 by a lot!

rockstar143 05-09-2019 06:57 PM

Asian women drivers.
What nightmares are made of.

Extremely boring. Would get something else if I was shopping for something in that price range.

Exactly :pofl:

Midnight Mystery 05-09-2019 07:04 PM

The TSX was slow too...

Anyway... We aggree that the 350 is the one to get, and that's all that really matters here

rockstar143 05-10-2019 07:00 AM

Dude, he's in a 400 hp fast car, everything feels boring and slow to him!

Says the guy with the 400hp S/C V6 & formerly the 556hp S/C V8 :pofl:

Problem with that is maintenance costs.

I was thinking about that...now I'm happy...still fast and 28 mpg on the highway, the only thing the Caddy was missing
to make it a good daily commuter with substantial driving.

From what I've gathered and what I hope is that the V6T specific platform is very low maintenance
in comparison to other VAG platforms...
major stuff at least, not talking about little annoyances and things you need to replace.
