Volvo XC60 for the wife?
Wife really needs a new car. Must be a SUV/Crossover/CUV.
She test drove a new XC60 earlier this week and really liked it. She sent me this pre-owned XC60 today and is very interested. I don't know much about Volvo. Good buy?

I think it's a hot looking car and apparently has some power but it only gets 17/23 mpg. It's expensive. The tech in it isn't as good as it's competitors. But the seats are amazingly comfortable and it's a sexy looking car.

FWIW we also test drove the CRV (EX-L w/nav), RDX Tech, TSX Sport Wagon w/tech (she thought it was ugly), and were planning on looking at the Ford Escape Titanium.

I think there's better options for what you are looking for, as far as getting the most and best for your money, CRV, RDX, Murano, Tribeca(looks are subjective i like it), 4runner, highlander, rav4, Santa Fe, Tiguan etc..

A friend of mine recently was in the same boat as you and ended up getting a Chevy Equinox! It's fairly quick, gets great MPG and has a good bit of technology! It was between that and the Ford Escape!

Several months ago we did test drive the GMC Terrain (similar to the Equinox) and I liked it. However, she doesn't want a car from "Gov't Motors"
I'm leaning towards the Escape Titanium. A little small but loaded with tech and a great motor.

Welcome to Olliewood
Noticed your location, my cousin bought her LR2 here few years ago. Was gonna check how much a CPO Evoque would be but then saw this

Chances are, your wife is too young for a Volvo.
Volvo is a 60 and older vehicle.
Before all you Volvo drivers who read this start to flame me, take a good look out in the driveway. I mean c'mon, you drive a Volvo.

Interested in what you end up with, my wife will be in the same boat next year looking for a small SUV. I've been doing a little research for her and so far the 2009-up Rav4's with the V6 (269hp) and 4WD are very interesting.

New Rav4 will be out in 4-6 months; maybe sooner. Finally doing away with the side hinged tailgate it appears. The current Rav4 just doesn't compete in terms of fuel economy, features, and space.

This one is about 90 minutes away but a local dealership has one on order that will be here next weekend:

That's what the wife wants. Test driving one tomorrow.

As for holding value they may be true but I believe it is in large part due to those brands failure to evolve their product dramatically. Let's face it, the 2012 Tacoma I have is not drastically different than the 2004 Tacoma. Yes it is bigger, yes it has a newer engine but it isn't all that different. Same for the Honda CRV for example. The brand new model is still very similar to the outgoing model. Whereas the new Escape has a totally different drivetrain. Totally different body style and LOADS more tech than the outgoing model. 10 years from now put a 2012 Escape next to a 2013 Escape and you'd be hard pressed to find 10 people to think it was the same model of car just a generation apart. When the 2013 Escape is worlds better than the 2012 of course the 2012 residual is going to suffer greatly.
Futhermore there isn't much from Acura/Honda (save for the RDX or Pilot; too expensive/too big for us) Toyota/Lexus (boring and overpriced crossovers now) and Nissan/Infinity (Rouge ) that we'd want to buy.
Ford is making great cars that I am excited about these days Something I can't really say about most of the Japanese cars available today.

Grandmother has one, 2012 T6 AWD Platinum (so all the same equipment, minus the sport and cosmetic additions). Amazing SUV.
lots of space, all the seats, including the front passenger fold.
does not require premium.
very comfortable.
that is an R design, the highest trim level.
very well engineered - take a look at the manual,
http://esd.volvocars.com/local/us/20...ers-Manual.pdf
statistically xc60 owners get the smallest payout in an accident of all cars in the iihs database. small payment = safer vehicle.

Quality is highly debatable. I had my fair share of problems with my two Acuras. My mother's Pathfinder has been an absolute nightmare.

That would apply to BMW from about 1980 to 2005 lol. The Tiguan has good reviews from what I read maybe you should check one out OP.

My god the spelling of "vehicle" in those images is driving me crazy. "Vehical"? Really? On a professional site?
Back on topic, +1 on the Escape. That car is very good bang for the buck.

we looked at the RDX too. The Escape offered more tech and better fuel economy. Also thought it looked better. The seats and dashboard were nicer in the RDX although it had a few cheap features (or lack thereof) like no rear seat A/C vents.
