Vette or M3

If you had to make a decision what would you get and why?

I'm talking about a Z06 -VS- a Fully Loaded M3

Just want to hear some opinions no flames please.

JRock 08-19-2002 07:17 PM

Z06, no question. But I'd have a rainy-day beater too. A Civic or something.

magnetic1 08-19-2002 07:18 PM

o god... not this debate again. You should go do a search on DTM Power...

Crazy Bimmer 08-19-2002 07:19 PM

chevy vs Bmw.... you know my choice. :D

The interior alone from the z06 would keep me away from it. Plus I wouldnt be able to get in and out of the z06 everyday.. its WAY too low for me.

Oh and I would feel weird taking a +50k car to a chevy dealer.. im too much of a snob i guess. :D

Driving expereince... I wouldnt know.. i havent driven neither. :(

Wow, really tough choice there Ern. My heart says M3 but my mind says Vette based on

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...threadid=77753

Nitin 08-19-2002 07:26 PM

Definitely the M3 over the Vette. I just can't stand the way Corvette's look.

threads like these make me wanna....

moomaster_99 08-19-2002 07:27 PM

Always comes down to this...do you want raw v8 power with moddability, but rather harsh and not too big on creature comforts or do you want a technological wonder, high revving I6 with just as good handling as the big boyz?

It's a toss up...cheaper to fix a Chevy and make it go fast. The M3 is maxed out...short of FI, will cost you an arm and a leg to be serviced, but is a better all-around.

Then again there is nothing like the rumble of a 350CI v8 thru some Flows or Borlas....almost like the turbine sound of a Ferrari, very distinct.

OKOK.. Ill participate.

The cars are in totally different classes. If you want a car that goes fast and out handles almost anything on the road.. by all means.. ZO6 or a Coupe(if you like to take the top off).

If you want a luxury car that can go fast, pimp in, etc.. get the M3.

How was my participation?

JRock 08-19-2002 07:30 PM

And at least you're not automatically thought to be an asshole when you drive a Corvette.

erock 08-19-2002 07:32 PM

M3... no doubt......

Zapata 08-19-2002 07:34 PM

m3...... more with less, more engineering, better resale, more luxury, fit and finish hands down, attracts less attention.

Zapata 08-19-2002 07:37 PM

Whaaaaaaaa? Different classes? how do you figure this?

Both sport coupes that are built for performance from the ground up.

eclipse23 08-19-2002 07:40 PM

OK, Z06 I can prolly score for lets say, 50K even. M3 is 58K but there is alot in that 8K like SMG, Navi, etc. And I think they are in the same perf. category.

darrinb 08-19-2002 07:40 PM

thats an easy one, M3. Stay w/ the car you got on order. American cars suck.

SFLA_Type-S 08-19-2002 07:42 PM

I chose the Z06...I love both cars, but from a performance perspective I prefer the Vette. I also heard the new M3's have a problem with the motor's blowing up (I don't know how true this is)..."Crazy Sellout" maybe you can elaborate. :dunno:

It really doesn't matter which car you chose, you'll be pimpin with either one...

yup,

Get the M3 man. Especially over the Z06, the interior in that is worse than the STD Vette to loose some weight.

I see vette's *everywhere* all day. I rarely see a M3.

But it's all opinions. Get whatever excites *you* the most.

Two great cars, two different personalitys.

StonedCL 08-19-2002 07:44 PM

Vette by far, Im a vette lover though..
Dads got a 67 396 Stingray..NICE.
He acctully looking into a Z06

JRock 08-19-2002 07:47 PM

"mid-life crisis" isn't gonna get your car keyed at the next stop like "BMW asshole" is. :dunno:

"small dick" is associated with any fast car by jealous people, so that's not a Vette thing specifically.

eclipse23 08-19-2002 07:59 PM

Very interesting comments here, I am happy I posted this comparo. The Vette has won a ton of awards and gets rave reviews. I have been soooo focused on the M that I just figured if Imma drop alot of dough I might as well SHOP a little bit.

Maximized 08-19-2002 08:10 PM

Id go with the Z06 because I am all about performance. The Z06 is a much better performing car than the M3. Styling wise its a toss up, both cars look great. Interior wise the M3 is much nicer than the Z06. If you plan on tracking the car, buy the Z06. It is cheaper to fix and has more mods available.

Beltfed 08-19-2002 08:13 PM

Z06 will make a better toy than the M3, but as an everyday driver......M3 without a doubt. Has a nice mix of performance and practicality.

Crazy Bimmer 08-19-2002 08:15 PM

Well Both do LOOK hot. If you are on a 56k modem.. then im sure i just blew your shit up. :D

Hmmmm....IMO

One is a well engineered German machine

the other, a "UAW designed and built" piece of trash

Zapata 08-19-2002 08:28 PM

ernie,
Comparo shopping i understand but long term committment.....you want the M3....atleast their you get 4 seats. m3 all the way!!!!!!! Don't sway buddy.

proactive 08-19-2002 08:37 PM

(Maybe enable voting next time.)

I like both, but I'd undoubtedly take the M3 over a Z06. Around here, the vette is overwhelmingly used as the mid-life-crisis-man's youth recuperation device (in a bad way). This state is crawling with them, and without exaggerating I've only seen 2 people driving the new vette who didn't fit that description. Nothing against them, it's just not to my taste.

The M's interior features and exterior appearance dominate. That's my taste.

If however the choice was a 1953 - 1962 Corvette, I'd take the vette without hesitation.

cusdaddy 08-19-2002 08:45 PM

I would go with the Vette. You can't beat the performance/dollar ratio. The interior is not too terrible. The M3 is a nice car too, but I just prefer the Z06. So easy to mod and the engine note is so sweet

dbox 08-19-2002 08:47 PM

GOD DAMNED VETTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how could u ask???
im not being a smart ass im just a vette lover!
''the vette makes em wett'' (from true lies)

Crazy Bimmer 08-19-2002 08:49 PM

You got class, or you white trash? :D

BigPimp 08-19-2002 08:52 PM

This one is fairly simple. If you were living somewhere in the middle of this great country, lets says Kansas or Tennesse, then the vette is a definite choice for ya. But living in the northeast esp. in NYC area, an M3 will deffinetly get you lots more respect and attention than a vette just on pure image speaking. There is also a bit of 'trashiness' association with a Vette where as an M3 is pure upper class vehicle.
Performance wise, they are very similar but you get a lot more toys with an m, and vette interior is just cheezy.
Also, keep in mind that the c5 will be redesigned very soon and you will have the old body style, where as an m3 is fresh for at least 3 years.

So to sum it up.....stick with the M

cusdaddy 08-19-2002 09:00 PM

I don't think the Vette is white trash at all. A Monte Carlo, yes. Vette? No. It's got such a history and is by far the best car made by GM

Do you have any idea where the strongest (in terms of power and being able to actually play a part in the direction of the companies) labor union in the world is?

The Vette is not "Designed" by any union member.

The Vette is one of the most advanced engineering designs there is.

Shawn S 08-19-2002 09:12 PM

I would go with the M3 for sure.
But mine would have THREE pedals on the floor. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

No offense, but a Z06 will bitch slap an M3 in every single performance category there is......a 996 TT is about on par with a 2002 Z06.

Give credit where credit is due folks.....Chevy did their homework with the Z06.
