Integra GS-R
Hey Gang,
Not sure where else to locate this thread; my son is looking to buy a clean and totally stock Integra. I searched this site and couldn't find a thread for the Integra; did I miss it?
If there are not any Integra related threads here, do any of y'all have any suggestions for Integra related forums?
Best regards,
Horseshoez

People here have used the RSX Forum for integras but not too much.
Google "integra" and a bunch of other forums pop up.
If you're looking for discussion on his quest for an integra those would be the places to go but if you're looking to buy one then the Black Market would be the place but I don't think there's too much action for integras here.

What do you want to know about the Integra? I used to be pretty well versed in them.... though it's been over a decade now haha

To be quite honest;... not a damn thing. My son just finished up his enlistment in the Navy and is wanting something more practical than his turbocharged 1996 "M" Edition Miata to be his daily driver. He told me after a fair amount of research he's leaning toward a GS-R.

What year is he looking at?

Are there still clean and totally stock GS-R's out there?

Yes. But rare. One just sold on bringatrailer.com for 9k US. I think it was a 1996.
a friend of mine just rebought his first car from his youth again- a 1992 Integra GS-R in Aztec green pearl. 25 years old. 125000km (~78k miles). In near flawless condition. He paid 9k CDN for it.
Theyre out there. But rare. And never cheap.

I used to use team-integra.net and honda-tech.com. Not sure how useful they are these days as it's been over a decade for me as well.
One thing to be wary about is thieves. I loved my Integra but couldn't trust leaving it parked certain places at night. Hell, even during the day for more than fifteen minutes sometimes.

I love that site, too, but I wish there was more of a Japanese car presence on there. I can't find a solid place to buy classic/older/restored/modded Hondas, anywhere. Or Toyotas. Or Nissans.

no, but I mean USDM cars... not JDM. I have no real interest in JDM cars.. they're so dangerous for making left hand turns, etc. No thanks. I've tried convincing myself in the past that I want a JDM car and I've spent countless hours scouring the Japanese auction sites too for a car and nothing seems to ever meet my [admittedly ridiculous] standards. There's nothing like the type cars you'd find on BAT. Or very very little, anyway.
and what do you mean living in Canada, that wouldn't help me a ton? You guys have a 25 year import rule. Ours is only 15. We get everything before you do. We beat the crap out of it and then sell it to you guys

After talking it over with my son he's now leaning toward a clean RSX Type-S.

Does that mean supercharged, turbocharged, or that it just comes with a subwoofer?
OP, RSX is a fun little car but is quite dated at this point. I'd suggest looking for a newer Civic Si or something along those lines if I were him. Probably wouldn't be a huge difference in price either.

Nah, he isn't interested in a Civic SI, he's looking for something a bit more unique and with definitely more panache than a run-of-the-mill Honda. The thing is, we're talking about an almost 24 year old kid who just left the Navy after building GE F-414 engines and then being promoted to a Plane Captain in an EA-18G Growler squadron. He has fairly refined automotive tastes for a kid his age; he wants a good performing car with a spartan interior but with the creature comforts of A/C, leather seats, cruise control, power/automatic everything (except the tranny), and a 6-Speed manual. That and he's looking to pay cash for the car.
Nice he's a plane captain for a EA-18G Growler, I used to design/engineer EW/ECM gear and the whole community are an extremely important role for US airborne operations!
As for the Integra, my wife had a 1G 5 door Integra from 1986 (one of the first thousand made) until 2004, 240K miles of fun driving.
Never mod'ed it, it was a DD but was easy to work on (could change all four plugs in 5 minutes).
I know a little about the 2G, but not much about the 3G and 4G. But there's probably tons of info online, but not much on AZ.
I know a couple people who had RSX's, and they're alot of fun as well. One was a colleague who had a type-S and it's shifter is about the same as a S2000 shifter which is excellent.
Good luck with his search, most 3G and 4G get fairly abused from what I see in the mid-Atlantic region.

Thanks, he got frustrated in his search, too many turkeys. In the end he needed to buy fairly quickly as he started his new job this Monday last, and opted to go with a new car. He bought a 2018 Ford Fiesta ST; not quite the panache of an Integra GS-R, but he is quite pleased with his purchase.

Nice choice. Mentioned it a few times, but the Fiesta ST was my second choice but I didn't really need a back seat.

The first red flag was when they tried to get him to sign a note for 84 months at a whopping 10% interest (Ford was advertising 0% for 60 months) with 25% down. I managed to get him out in front of that one only to have them tell him they'd include an extended warranty for "One dollar per month". Funny thing, when the warranty got excluded, the monthly payment dropped something like $30.
In the end I had him walk out of the dealership and drive to a diner in the area and have dinner and give them time to sweat. While he was eating the deal got sweeter and sweeter; what a surprise.

Yep, gotta play hardball with dealerships. Throw their own greasy tactics back at them.
I feel terrible for people who fall for them.

Yup, I got took by a dealership back in 1975 and learned my lesson; trust me, anybody who was stupid enough (like I was) to buy a Chevy Vega learned a whole lot, real fast.
