Not really sure where to post this. I thought I'd post it in Street Encounters, but it wasn't even a race, so my apologies if a mod has to move this thread


Anyways, I hate when people try to race you or outgun you on the road, when you really don't want to. Earlier today when I left for work there was this douche in some oversized Dodge Ram pickup that was tailing me pretty hard in morning rush hour traffic (what did he want me to do, bash into the guy 15 feet in front of me?) then he and I pull up to an intersection, he pulls up next to me in a lane I'll eventually need to get into about a mile or two down the road.

So the light hits green, I start giving it gas, then he starts gunning it real hard, then stays at the same speed as I, blocking me from changing to his lane. I try speeding up to cut in front of him, then he speeds up Everytime I gave it a little bit of gas, I saw his truck do a quick jerk forward then he starts speeding up (like he's spastically giving quick hard punches to the gas)

So obviously the guy was trying to get me to race him, even though I wouldn't go above 40 or so. I eventually just brake to like 25 or so, then switch behind him. The guy kept going close to 50 or so, I'm surprised he didn't get pulled over because (here's the thing) the street he pulled this shit on is parallel to Main Street -- where the county courthouse, city hall, etc is all on. The place is usually littered with cops and meter maids who're way too eager to make reports of speeders nearby.

Really, what a dick. What pisses me off the most is I'm sure someone on that street working (probably someone in the courthouse) made a report and now there's going to be a few cops camped out on that small stretch of road looking for speeders. His diesel truck was making a ton of noise at 6:30 AM...

 

Ahh yeah I wasn't sure if I should post it in here. I only posted it in Ramblings because I wasn't really offering discussion, just ranting Oh well, thanks to whoever moved it.

people that drive like that give me a headache. I give you credit for keeping your cool, though!

 

Serious, that happened to me earlier today. A big ugly white turbo diesel Dodge. He didn't even move over to the next lane when it was open.

on the other hand, i was driving to work this morning in the boxster. This camaro ss and i had just cleared a gaggle of traffic and the highway was wide open. As in, no cars in front of us for 1/4 mile.


He pulls next to me and he revs his motor. I look over and the guy is about 40-50 and your everyday easy going guy, and he waves and of course i wave and then drop it into 4th gear. I should have done 3rd but, i wasn't sure if i should have.

He walked away from me and then i backed off, but i also had to get off the exit.

It was a good chuckle and fun.

 

As others have stated you kept your cool and didn't engage which is the important thing. If something tragic and stupid would have occurred it would hit both drivers legally.

 

I hate fucktards like that.

I remember this one time about a month or two ago I was driving home and some asshole in a minivan was going 5mph slower than the speed limit and I always avg about 5 over the limit and I needed to get into his lane to turn right at an upcoming light and everytime I would get even with him and get a tad ahead of him and put my blinker on he would see my blinker and would gun it and not let me get by. I just eventaully got behind him and what does he do? He switches into my old lane to turn left. What a fucking douchebag.

 

Some people just wake up in the morning with the desire to piss other people off. Good job keeping your cool. It is always better to rant and rave about it rather than wreck your car or get a ticket.

I hate it when people pull up next to me in traffic and gun it, but I guess thats what I get for driving a flat black firebird.

 

Some chick in a Scion almost ran into the side of my car yesterday morning on my way in. She was trying to race past some trucks up a hill, and her car just couldn't go fast enough, so she tried to cut in front of me, but there wasn't any room. So for the next 20 miles she decided that it was necessary to pull along side me and slow so she can show me how pissed she was.

At least she was cute....that's about all it did.

 

Totally off topic, I saw this Evo 9 in my apt parking structure once, and one side of the car was totally just totally destroyed. The owner was inside, so I asked him what happened.

He said on the freeway, he was pissed by this Accord so he physically knocked the Accord off the freeway.......

You should've done the same to that douche in the truck.

Yeah I would have normally gotten pissed off at his douchebaggery, but like I said this particular street is usually littered with cops scoping out for speeders. I'd know because not only do I see cops parked, checking for speeders, but I actually got a speeding ticket on that street about 4 months ago, haha!

But yeah I have a friend who I normally gripe about annoying drivers with, and we brainstorm ways we'd deal with these kinds of drivers. Of course my ideas tend to be illegal..... and involve paint.

 

I hate people like this. Riding a bright red sport bike makes everyone want to race you from civics to bentleys. A bunch of the guys I used to ride with would carry things like marbles if people got too close. I DO NOT condone this and never did it but those guys got their points across.

 

I had an issue with a girl in a Scion tC last night. I started from a green light and saw the one ahead had just turned red so being in no rush, coasted up to the next one. The speed limit was 35 and I was coasting at right about that and the whole time she was so close that I couldn't see the headlights in any of my mirrors.

Light turns green and I accelerated to 40. Not foot-to-the-floor but leisurely acceleration. I looked back and she's dicking around, going maybe 30 mph back there. I switched into the right lane and a few blocks later am passed by a Chevy Silverado. Right on the tail of the Chevy is that same Scion.

Apparently her thing is tailgating people up to red lights. Perhaps she thinks it will make them change faster? Who knows.

 

I have a rule... If I cant see your front plate, or headlights your too close... if your too close I (READ) lightly tap the brakes to just enough to give off the lights, then downshift to five under for 10 seconds. Most drivers get the hint.

 

Ahh, sometimes I wish my car was a Transformer. At will it would transform into a huge ass POS-looking truck, that way I can ram the retard off the road or do a PIT maneuver and scare the crap out of them so they never do it again.

Whats the saying from Top Gun: Hit the brakes, and he'll fly right by. If I were desperate, I'd downshift it loud enough to make him think I'm going, he goes hauling ass, then I let off and get into my lane. He might even get the ticket.

If I get that at a light in my S4, I rev the engine and act like I'm going to race and then let them act like assholes when they take off from the stoplight while I pull away normally.

Then I hope a cop sees them and pull them over. If not, I just laugh at how stupid these fucking people are.

 

Reminds me of some jagoff that was next to me in traffic with his gf. It was like 8pm so he was probably going out. He asks if I want to race and I'm like yeah yeah right up the car in front of me's ass.

 

Yeah I hate it when I need to get to the next lane over and there's a car blocking my way who KNOWS I'm trying to get over. Now usually I'm trying to get over in a very "share the road way"; turn on my blinkers way ahead of time, making eye contact with other driver letting them know my intention to move over, driving defensively instead of an offensive lane switch which usually involves cutting someone off.

Now I notice that MOST people just won't let you in. I actually get much better results driving like an ass than driving nicely. Maybe it's the LA traffic but the more defensive you drive the more people try to cut you off so they can get ahead around here.

When people tailgate me I just start going slower, once I hit about 25~30mph or if they change lanes to pass me I'll downshift and gun it. It's especially fun to do to large trucks or SUVs that just LOVE to tailgate like mad on 35 mph offramps right before the turn. Taking a offramp at 65 while some ass who was just tailgating you for 500 meters can only take it at 45 because of his big ole SUV usually brings a smirk to my face.

 

Yeah I noticed a lot of people around here seem to just want to tailgate you for the sake of tailing you -- they don't want to just simply go faster, they just want to touch bumpers so you'll think they're a badass or something When I was in school a few years ago I had this annoying girl tail me all the time (I usually go maybe 5-10 MPH over the limit) so one day I just got sick of it, I (don't do this btw) sped up to almost 80 MPH in a 40 MPH highway and she was still trying to tail me. It was stupid as hell on my part, but it just proved that she wanted to piss other drivers off.

and lol girl in a Scion tC. I used to work with a girl who drive a tC, cutting people off in the parking lot all the time, just in general being an idiot. Women + Scions = bad mix, imo.

 

i love doing this and when theyre behind me at a stoplight, i put my car into reverse and the lights shine up. the look on their faces are priceless!
