The most upbeat Audi owner ever...
they really should provide you free parts in exchange for your posts...more people would buy Audi and not fear reliability.

Thanks Jeremy.

In reality, it comes down to patience, time, and money spent. My S4 boner runs hard and I just wanna go fast.

Cheeky bastards.

I can't wait till they're mounted and I'm going to do my best to get the coilovers installed next week. Just need to rent a spring compressor.

As some of you know, my driveway situation is insane. I don't plan on lowering it more than .5", but it'll look way less 4x4 as 1killercls pointed out earlier in my thread. They definitely aren't the Sport line springs.

those will look great! There's a B5 avant that's dropped pretty low I see regularly with those rims. Looks sick.

Stupid question but they just PC right over curbing?
Reason I ask is if I do get my wheels redone, I want to know if I should take the time to smooth them out myself first.
At the price you paid, plastidip might have cost you more. Soooo = WINNING!

Not a stupid question at all.

The a few of the wheels were pretty curbed when I got them and they sanded down what they could.

Now that you point it out, I should have done that before handing them off

Love me some B5 avants

I was actually shopping for one before this one popped up in Huntington beach, thing is .. a 6MT Nogaro Blue Avant sells for well over 14k which is pretty much double of what I paid for mine with similar mileage.

The OEM wheels are going to look so much better than the VMR's. I'm looking forward to seeing those mounted with coils installed. Are you going to run spacers with them?

Same here, the suspension needs some overhauling and there's no better way to do it than some good
coilovers.

No spacers for now, I'm enjoying the look now but you know how it goes.

With cars, it's hard to stay satisfied

I'd go with adjusting positive camber after lowering before doing spacers.

Jeremy, if you have bad curb rash, it might be worth for the shop to repair them, first. I wouldn't necessarily just take the wheels to a powder coating shop, but rather, to a wheel repair shop. I've come to know a guy that owns his own wheel repair shop (I don't get deals though ), and depending on the damage, he will put the wheel on a CNC machine, to fix it, and bead/sand blast it. Some smaller shops will sand by hand (which you could do yourself). The only issue is having the balls to first start sanding. Seems easy, and it is. But it's scary the shops at least are used to doing it all day, everyday.

Indeed my sirs, indeed.

I look back at older pictures and I'm like damn, what a difference.

Same here .

I've always had a thing for the B5 design and I had to snag one when the opportunity presented itself.

UPDATE:

Coilover install starts tomorrow , I received my fresh rubber shock tower inserts from 034Motorsports on Saturday.

Only thing I need now is a spring compressor.

I won't say you don't for sure...
but it was suggested on the V and my cousin's front GTI assemblies
and on both I was able to not use the compressor and just unbolt with the impact gun and the spring didn't go flying.

UPDATE:

I got the pleasure of meeting Southern California's resident B5 expert and he agreed to do some routine maintenance on my car which consisted of timing belt, waterpump, new thermostat w/ new housing, new valve cover gaskets, cam seals, crank seals, + more (I'm definitely missing a few). I helped a little here and there, but it was a pleasure watching him work. Very meticulous and thorough, down to the torque specs on every bolt.

I don't know if you guys have seen Matt Farrah review 2 x B5 S4s back to back on the /TUNED channel, but his car is the Imola yellow in this video and yes, it's broken with a blown motor . He said he got 90,000 miles out of his block @ 600whp so he really couldn't complain when it finally went .

Here's a few pictures of the tear down, clean up, and assembly.

Dat lift!

Headlights, bumper and front clip removed.

Tear down:

Dat kittie pool doh - We degreased & scrubbed down the front of the motor and hosed it down with a pressure washer.

Rusty, but clean.

Timing belt / waterpump / thermostat / thermostat housing complete. I didn't get any pictures of the gasket installation, but you get the general idea.

Imola & Nogaro

All put back together.

No issues on the drive home and no oil spillage. There were no after thoughts or any extra bolts.

We did discover a few issues when we were tearing down the car, but nothing is really holding me back to start ordering items for the Stage 3 build. All engine maintenance is done.

Stay tuned .

B5 expert? Does he see a therapist on the regular?

Awesome that you got all that stuff done. Looks like an expensive endeavor...
