you planning to take it to the strip to see the #s?
#1843
Team Owner
No. The screen will just say "Fast AF" and that's it. Good enough.

I think a dyno would be good enough for me

I got my first file that has upped ignition timing yesterday and damn, she moves. Sent my tuner more logs and I’m going
to make a dyno appointment in a few weeks.
Stay tuned

Dyno numbers were put on hold due to some unforeseen issues.
I will get to that in a bit.
Oil changed since moving over to e85:
Car at this point was running great ... no issues putting 1,000 miles on it getting e85 revisions. My current mileage sits at around 14-15mpg .. 160-175 miles to a tank if I'm lucky.
In hindsight, for 100-105 equivalent octane rating @ $2.75 a gallon .. I really can't complain.
I finished up my e85 tune a few weeks ago and I've been holding off on giving the wife a ride because I wanted her to experience the car in it's "final form".
Predictably, the car had an issue the first time she rides in it lol.
Long story short, my slave cylinder line that I covered with gold reflective heat wrapping got a bit loose from it's initial mounting position after 15,000 miles. The slave cylinder line started resting on the downpipe which ultimately caused it to fail.
I went to go shift 5th after a few pulls and the pedal drops to the floor .. this puts DOT4 all over the exhaust and I can smell burning ... I pull over off of the freeway exit and the moment I open the hood, a fire starts. I run around to the side of the vehicle and grabbed my fire extinguisher. After about 5 seconds, I got the fire out ...
With a busted slave line, the car wasn't moving anywhere and I got it towed home.
Fast forward a few days, I purchased a new USP Motorsports metal slave cylinder line and begun the damage assessment. Car came out relatively unscathed other than a melted thin plastic vacuum hose and some marshmallow golden brown connectors.
All Cleaned up:
New slave line installed and installed SECURELY.
Lucky? Absolutely.
After seeing a few other threads on AudiZine / posts on the FB groups, I wasn't going to chance my car burning down so I had one stowed away in my glove box. Best Christmas gift to date.
Since the small fire:
- I've secured the slave line so it will not slip / fall down.
- Removed the exhaust heatwrap as it can be a potential fire hazard . .especially as it soaks with oil.
- Even more frequent under-hood checks
Car is back on the road and I've been driving it for the last week.
Here's a video of the car on it's latest software revision:
If I were to guesstimate #s at this point, I'd say I'm certainly over 400awhp. I'd say in the neighborhood of 425-440awhp and close to 450-475awtq.
The car MOVES. I haven't had the chance to play with anybody yet but, I'd love to show some 1G C63 AMGs or some 2015+ 5.0s some tail lights soon.
For reference, I got edged out by a 2016 5.0 on a sloppy 91 octane file with a 250lb passenger .. I would say the car has picked up 75whp and even more torque since then.
Dyno numbers should be here in the next few weeks .. I have an in-tank fuel line that I want to change out before calling it "finished".
Thanks for reading my long winded posts.

Damn that was lucky for sure. Glad you had the fore thought to get one of those for the car.
at the gas mileage and per tank miles. I know how that goes.
You have me thinking now that I should have one for my trips to the dragon when I am beating on my car and things get hot. What brand, model, size did you get and can you get it online?

I am impressed with your continued desire to fix this car and stay on with this project no matter how many times this car has tried to commit suicide. Soon this car is going to have had more lives than a cat.

I got this one:
FIAFESA5 - Fire Extinguisher For Gasoline/Oil/Grease/Electrical Fires
I like how it fits in the glove box, but I got 2 for good measure.
Honestly, this was a big wake up call. The wife was trying to be understanding but at the same time she had the “So ... you drive cars that spontaneously catch fire” Kind of look.
I didn’t take the necessary measures to uphold a safe design. That’ll be my goal the next time the motor comes out / any other parts are added.

Its not a bad thing to have around - I personally thought I was going to use it on somebody else’s car before mine

That is definitely not something I have thought of before either. Would be a major wake up call to experience. The more we push these engines the hotter they run and the bigger risk for things like this to happen.
Glad you are taking the choice to include safety in your decision of things from now on instead of saying it is too risky and giving up.

my DRL module caught fire in my TL my kid's first Christmas...
nothing like feeling helpless watching an electrical fire start up in your engine bay
Lucky for me some day laborers with tools and brains stopped by to pull my pos on my battery and saved the day

No dyno yet ... I had an appointment set on Monday and the guy never showed up . He's hoping he can squeeze me in Saturday morning with a 50% discount.
The last month has been pretty eventful to say the least.
I helped a friend pull the motor on his S4 that's going with the same build as I am - K04s + E85.
Don't mind our strange faces.
Learned some new stuff - we rebuilt some blown K04s he purchased used off of the group and we put in some new CHRAs. Between the two of us, we've never assembled turbos before so ... we'll see how it goes
(CHRAs come pre-balanced already - it's a process of using high temperature silicon sealant on the compressor housing & torque other small bits to spec)
New turbos / new rear main seal / new clutch & flywheel / new valvecover gaskets / PCV system rebuild / all new fluids - timing service done 10,000 miles ago
And the fun part - on the night we were going to put his motor back in, I had the meat of my hand right on the engine leveler and you guessed it ... whole engine & trans shifted as we were moving it into position and it pinched my hand open.
4 stitches at 10:30pm at night ... cool!
Car is back together in under a month - pretty much 0 snags except for a misaligned starter and weird idle issues on the base tune. Oh yeah, and my hand splitting open
Ran logs to button up my tune - last file revision.
Car has been great ... I've driven it almost 600 miles this month.
After the fire incident, I had to go to town on detailing the engine bay, turned out pretty good I'd say:
As far as upgrades are concerned, I don't have much left to do to the car except for brakes.
For $200 shipped, I picked up some Toureg 4 piston front calipers that will bolt up to the OEM spindle - I didn't want to dive deep into a Brembo 6 piston 17z / 18z due to cost / rotor cost, but these have larger piston area and will give pretty similar stopping power.
To be honest, ANYTHING is better than the stock brakes especially since I've effectively doubled the car's horsepower from factory.

Before I forget, I got a good frame of reference where my car is at last weekend.
I had a friend come down from LA in a Stage 3 S4 Avant - tad bit heavier than the sedan, but he has roughly the same mods as I do except he's running 91.
We did a few 60 rolls and let me tell you, it's not even close .. I couldn't believe the difference flex fuel makes. If I were to guesstimate, I would say I had a few bus lengths on him from 50-135.
From what I've seen from my logs, my car should be around the 450whp range on a dynojet & over 400whp on a Mustang dyno - I'm excited to post #s when they come in .. expected or unexpected

Your dedication to this cause is really admirable.
Plus, it's great to see how you boys get along spending long nights together now so it won't be such a huge shock when all of your significant others give you the boot and you have to move into brotown condo together!
Send me an invite!
Seriously though...the car is hot shit...looks hot shit, must be fast as hot shit...it is just perfection.

Good to know I have some sort of backup plan
Its easy to be for the cause if you’re having fun ... and it not being your car .
