You probably can pull the engine out and put it back faster than me changing a headlight bulb now.

Something I'm not exactly proud of ...

Looks cool though!

So, good news:

A drop of oil came out of the inlet, this is good news! I'd say we're fixed up for now.

I've had some realllly shitty luck lately .. I got a flat tire on Friday night. No worries, spare tire is pumped up ... but it turns out, my lug bolts are extended and would hit the spindle.

Friend had to bring me some OEM lugs to make it home

Funny thing is, I have the OEM lug bolts .. but they were in my car bag which contains all of my extra supplies in the event of a break down. Where was it? In the garage when I needed it most

Now, fast forward to the weekend - running healthy!

Cable managed some of the wiring in the engine bay and gave it a good wax job:

Also managed to fix my crooked exhaust:

Still waiting on some tires ... I tried finding a used Continental ExtremeContact DW 235/40/18 but they're a needle in a haystack .. need to order 2 of them now.

Fuel pump installation should happen in the next week or so.

Awesome, glad it wasn't anything major. So did you determine what caused the failure to begin with?

Have you thought about doing the stub conversion? it is much easier to deal with than those stupid bolts.

I am not changing my wheels, if i were, the first thing i would do is to get rid of those stupid bolts.

I love the bolts because they are easier to buy spacers for.

Actually i think it is the other way around, i used to sell spacers for living

For thin spacers, chances are you wont need anything else.
For 15mm+ or even 25/30mm, Those spacers are usually bolted onto you existing studs and you wont need to do any modifications. Like the H&R or Ichiba V2.

For bolts, you will have to calculate and buy extended bolts and now there are different size of bolts 1.25 or 1.5 and all those BS.
Unless all you are planning to get is 5mm, then you will be dealing with hub centric issues.

It's big, but it's an ancient LCD ... it's definitely garage worthy, just need to wall mount it eventually.

I'd call it "functional" cable management, not what you're thinking

Yup, PCV system failed / clogged.

I'm working on getting the PCV "pancake" valve on the Y-pipe replaced - it only comes with the whole vacuum spider hose assembly which is $$, used route it is.

I've thought about it but meh, one of those things I don't really think about on a daily basis.

Maybe as I apply the finishing touches, but not now.

So everything is sorted it out now?

For the time being, yeah .. I'm safe to drive it and pack miles on the new flywheel. Just need to get 2 new tires and I am good to go.

I have a friend who's really good with wiring / electrical - he may have some availability this weekend to help wire up the new fuel pump / wideband. From there, other than little kinks, I cannot wait to finally send this shit.

Very happy with the car right now. Since October, it hasn't run better.

A buddy of mine swapped over to the 2.0T coilpack conversion, so he gave me his whole set of Audi OEM ignition coils, along with some sturdier OEM lower intercooler hoses that I swapped over the weekend - I don't have to worry about the lower intercooler hoses popping off anymore.

3 x B5 S4s in their natural form

Boost is very responsive and really comes on at @ 4000rpm. I haven't had the chance to really push it since the clutch setup isn't totally broken in yet, but I guarantee my weak point will be my OEM fuel pump. Seems to hold up to 15 psi without an issue though.

My Racetronix universal fuel pump wiring kit arrived last Friday, I'm hoping to have the Walbro 450 installed w/ a new fuel filter in the coming weeks ... it's really the last major piece before the car will be logged and dialed in for E85.

Now, the more visually pleasing update (sorry for the crappy photos, car deserves a photoshoot now that it can actually drive places )

As some of you know, I got a flat a few weeks back and I've had an issue grabbing 1 x used Continental ExtremeContact DW in a 235/40/18. The 3 remaining tires were low on tread and decided to check out the Facebook Market place..

For the price, I couldn't argue ... and they look a whole helluva lot better

Quick exhaust clip from tonight:

Glad to hear the car is running right. Yellow is a single turbo conversion?

Those wheels make it look like a normal A4...which is awesome because sleepers are awesome. Waiting for you to pwn some guy from the stop light because he thought you have a peasant 1.8T under there.

As much as I like them, stock wheels are 17x7.5 with extremely weak offsets.. these are 18x8 +35 - perfect fitment for B5s.

You can see what I mean if you scroll up further up the page.

For $150 + the cost of cheaper all seasons, I couldn't say no

Thanks guys

Got a lot done this weekend!

Saturday was sort of a shit show with the backyard and other house projects, but the wifey was nice enough to give me the whole day on Sunday to get the last pieces of the puzzle installed.

I wasn't 100% comfortable doing the fuel pump wiring by myself due to the lack of electrical experience, so I had a friend help me out. I'm so glad I called in for help on this one ... things that bolt on / bolt off I can understand, but electrical is a mystical beast to me

I could have utilized the stock fuel pump wiring, but the problem is this particular pump draws quite a bit more amps versus the stock unit. Higher amps + small wiring = more heat .. eventually the wires will degrade over time.

Upgraded harness w/ relays & 10g wire:

Old fuel pump out:

New Pump setup:

The drop-in kit works for a single & dual pump setup:

Wideband is wired & installed.

I decided to dremel out one of the AC vents. Doesn't look great, but it's better than spending $75 on a piece of plastic lol.

I'm having some communication issue(s) with the O2 sensor since it doesn't read anything other than 14.4 with the car started, 14.0 on accessory power. This indicates I have a loose wire somewhere in the wideband setup, or a malfunctioning o2.

Otherwise, car is pretty close to being sent! I've been developing a nasty habit of popping lower intercooler hoses off under boost and I believe I found my solution:

Sanding on both the IC inlet / inside of the hose
Hair-spray
T-bolt clamps
Some luck

More photos / videos soon - the car on a hardware level is done! Tuning will get there .. eventually.

Is the car done once you get the gauge working? The stock intercooler clamps are junk. A lot of people swear by the hairspray trick and T-bolt clamps when pushing more boost.

bold to have opted for the ass-to-mouth 20 amp fuse. Good choice though.

Pretty much. On a hardware level, the car is good to go!

Agreed about the smaller hose clamps - the T-Clamps should have been applied a long time ago. We'll see how she holds

Personally, I want to keep seeing this thing break down, over and over and over again.

Why? Because I live vicariously through Tyler, and I like to pretend the mods and work he puts in, is actually me. Plus, it's always cool to see him purchase new mods and install em

Keep on breaking down, Eth Fo!!!

I'm glad you live vicariously through this build thread ... it's painful at times, but god damn ... when the car is running right it really rips and all that struggle disappears.

I think I'm on the road to some kind of stability here - before I ripped it apart in October, other than some ignition issues / boost leaks, the car was rock solid and I put around 16,000 miles on it without a single break down.

A reliable 400whp K04 B5 S4 is possible, but in the end .. it's a 17 year old twin turbocharged German car. Perspective helps a bit, at times .
