Sorry to hear the S2k is gone but glad you got your Audi issue resolved.

Those open downpipes Sounds so good. Don't change it please.

That's odd, usually the second time lasts a lot longer...

I hope to have the exhaust done on Saturday - need to take it to a shop.

I would get it done this week but, I don't feel comfortable leaving this car anywhere I don't have eyes on it.

That's ... not a bad idea.

The clutch has about 100 miles on it and the fueling is way off ... I don't want somebody sending it before me!

Yea ... it's pretty bad lol.

S2000 had a really hard time clearing it, S4 with conservative ride height does pretty well.

Pretty eventful weekend - It took 2 days to figure out why my car was running lean on Bank 2 ... 5.4% to be exact.

We first thought it was the inlet pipe on the driverside turbo that was leaking, but my tuner pointed out that it was an issue between the throttlebody & o2 sensor ... leaves a lot of things to check. IM gaskets, Injector seating, exhaust manifold leaks, etc.

After playing the process of elimination, I pulled the intake manifold and removed the fuel rail - I noticed a split o-ring on Injector 5 (Bank 2) which was causing the lean condition.

My tuner prefers 3% and under - we managed to get it down to 1.6% after getting a new o-ring on there

On my second tuning file now:

Now that the car's fuel trims are healthy, I couldn't help myself ...

15 psi feels absolutely glorious - the car has 0 exhaust and it's pretty much as raw as it gets. All you hear is exhaust, crackle / pops, induction, and turbo whistle off throttle ... it's quite incredible to say the least.

The upgraded fuel pump should be installed by this weekend and I'm actively on the hunt for intercoolers - I signed up for a roll racing event on 1/5 and I'm hoping to hurt some feelings, eagerly putting miles on my clutch so it's broken in before then.

Stay tuned

Does this mean the car is staying raw and exhaustless?

You know how much I like going raw dog, but I can’t keep it like this. Biggest issue is it’s a huge “Look at me!” and I’d prefer not getting any cops attention since it doesn’t have cats on it. Plus, I’d imagine it’s damaging my hearing .. hence the gun range ear protection on the dash

Im hoping to have the exhaust done this week.

You should start a business servicing these things. You're getting pretty good at working on the S4 at this point...

Thanks Sam!

I have learned a TON over the last month, but I cannot take all of the credit - my buddy Joel / Steve were a key part of the success so far. They gave me the confidence to do this project in my own garage and I am beyond happy with how it's running and how it turned out.

I won't advertise our services, but I would say .. next B5 owner in San Diego who needs their clutch changed, I would be open to tackling it.

Damn if you wern't on the other side of the coutry I would want to hear that thing in person. I can't believe it will hurt your hearing but maybe

If you put the exhaust on your should get some cutouts installed right after the downpipes just for some fun sometimes. Then if a cop pulls you over just shut them as you are pulling over.

That sounds awesome, from the video it doesn't sound obnoxiously loud, but I am sure in person it sounds a lot different as you've said..

Hmmm, that's not a bad idea.

The sound after 3k is pretty much deafening .. but there are times when one simply can't help himself .

Since I've been driving the car ... I easily put off 3-5 car alarms per day

I feel kinda bad.

Don't feel bad. Enjoy that sound. It sounds wonderful in that video. I would want to hear it all day long. Nothing wrong with setting off car alarms.

The V sounds like a drag car and people look at me like I am crazy when I get on the V hard with the valves open and I love it.

Powersteering leak fixed and the front bumper is on

Funny, fuel trims actually shifted ..

Before, Bank 2 was running a bit lean ... now it's bang on the money. Now, Bank 1 is running a bit rich.

Tuner seems to think it's tidy, under 3% is fine so I'll keep rolling with it.

Still exhaust-less ...

I ordered some new / upgraded v-band clamps and I plan on tackling the exhaust next week, have no time this weekend.

$2.34 on Amazon, had to do it

Thanks much Adam!

No real updates this weekend - I'm going to do my best to mock up & cut my exhaust up tonight.

As of right now, it goes Turbo > Downpipes > Mid-pipes > 2.5" collector at the beginning of the 3" Catback.

With the 3" -> 2.5" reducers connected at the end of the mid-pipes, it adds roughly 4-5" so it goes a quite a bit longer and doesn't connect up to the catback properly.

My plan is to cut off 4-5" off of the midpipes so the reducers sit flush.

I would take it to a shop, but nobody wants to work on a car that's catless .. taking matters into my own hands ... with a hacksaw

What's the worst that can happen?

The best thing that could happen is you fuck it up and have to run exhaustless forever

I kid I kid really I do. Good luck. I think if you pulled everything else off already this should be fairly easy.

On video, the car sounds very aggressive .. which I like.

I just don't like the decibel level - I'm basically guaranteed a headache going to work and getting home ...

Last piece of the puzzle has been purchased, should be arriving next week,

Wagner SMICs w/ CF Shrouds - arguably one of the best sets of intercoolers available for the B5 S4 other than AMD / SRM / ER units.

Beauty about these SMICs is I will have very little heatsoak pull after pull ...

curious, how to do you ensure they aren't clogged when buying used? Or do you just flush the heck out of them with degreaser???

From what I've seen, they usually have trace amounts of oil in the bottom of the ICs but aren't really "clogged" per say.

You got me thinking now - I may just run a crap ton of brake cleaner through them so it evaporates ... I don't want degreaser going into the IM.
