Turbo vs Rebuilt Motor Question
There is this kid who says he is running 14.9 on his rebuilt and gutted F22 CL which I call b.s. on when there was a turbo F23 not gutted running 14.5..Also he said he walked a CL-P
What do you think?

Maybe a 16.9 on a stock but gutted 2.2L. I think the printed quarter mile time for a 2.2L Cl is 16.7. I don't know what all was gutted, but taking out your spare tire is not going to increase your time almost 2 seconds. Now if he did a Gude performance rebuild or a 100 shot, he could get into the 14's.

I read up on some old post in the First Gen forum and I don't think a 2.2 with i/h/e will get out of the 16's. Average CL-P's are running high 15's low 16's, while CL-S's are mid 14's. If he rebuilt the engine back to stock specs he is running 16's. If he gutted down completely to visible body panels, lexan glass w/ only a drivers seats, one gallon of 104 octane gas and a tailwind w/ a 5 speed... he maybe able to get a 145hp 2,800lb car to a 15.5 quarter. It would be cool if he did, but I don't see it happening.

In my 98 2.3 CL 5 speed I had no spare tire, cloth seats, Intake, Ceramic DCS Header, Venom Cam Gear (4 deg advance), full Magnaflow exhaust from header, plugs/wires and a stock 97 3.0 CL still pulled away from me. I hung in there through 2nd then he started pulling away.

Well Alex is claiming a 14.9, which is around the CL-S time I think, which basically means he went from 145 hp to almost 250-260 hp. He has a shit load of mods to the engine (rods, pistons, intake manifold, etc) and is gutted, but I'm not quite sure.
I'd just bolt on a Jackson SC or get and H22 and boost that and call it a day.

H22 + Large turbocharger would do the trick, the car is heavy. If you want to break the 13 second barrier you would have to boost. All motor it will be hard breaking into the 13's.

Several OG members back in the day ran high 15s in their 2.x 5spd with basic boltons. obviously that was their best run, so low 16s would seem norm. i think high 14s is a bit of a stretch. 15s is definitely doable. on the highway though even a 3.0cl will pull on it bad. by the end of a 1/4 mile all the 2.x 5spd advantages are gone. diplacement will dominate like always.
