turbo honda question
my friend has a 2000 accord sedan, 4cly 5mt.
he's having a h22 turbo being built by a local shop, and he wanted to make sure he wasn't being overcharged. since I don't know much about it, I figured I would ask you guys.
here's the parts list -
Rev Hard turbo kit - $3200
Mahle pistons - $525
ARP head studs - $150
Hondata - $500
Injectors - $750
Rebuild head - $600
ECU harness - $700
cam gears - $300
misc. parts - $1400
Brembo rotors - $400
does that seem reasonable?

Its kind of over priced.
Mahle pistons should be around $449 a set (let alone i've heard a ton of people talking about fit ment issues, motors blowing, ringlands break losing total compression, then again i've heard of some people actually praise them) I would go wiseco personally... Hmm injectors $150 a piece... $750!!??
$2900-3000 shipped sounds right for the rev hard kit (stage II). Im sorry that manifold sucks ass too.
That is a bolt on kit, it does not require engine management, unless you upgrade the turbo or you have the stage 3 kit which is like $4499.
Wiring harness seems a bit expensive too. Instead of boosting the shit out of the rev hard kit ( it can only handle 7-8lbs on stock motor) I think your friend should piece together a kit with better parts otherwise his car is going to be a money pit. Do it right the first time and you wont regret it.

here's my thing i'm kind of "old school" when it comes to high performance motor building. I'd rather see a guy bore out a motor like 40 thousands over and put 11:1 compression pistons in and a competion cam vs put a HUGE ASS turbo on it and make the same hp.
I've seen plenty of wicked Acuras and Hondas with aftermarket turbos yes their fast as hell but it just kills me because Honda/Acura is known for being very few turbo models sold company(up till now with the RDX). plus with stroking the motor and high compression you don't have turbo lag.
however with like 11:1 compression. I doubt if it will run on pump gas.

You can't compare an N/A motor to a Turbor Motor while displacement remains nearly the same. 40 thousandths over in a 2.2 liter would be very minimal.

Wow Matt... seems VERY steep to me.
What are the specs on the turbo kit? What compressor?
The pistons are overpriced by about $80
Head studs sounds about average, definitely not a GREAT price though.
Hondata again is an okay price... seems kinda high.
Injectors are WAY overpriced. You can get 1000cc RC injectors for $100/each
Harness and rebuilt head... don't know
Cam gears shouldn't be more than $160 on a H22.
Misc parts?
Brembo's... is that for 4 rotors?
I'd tell him to shop around a bit.

Brembo rotors for $400? I just picked up Brembo rotors (only 2 however) along with Brembo Drums and PBR performance pads for $375 installed.
$3,250 for a turbo is also pretty high. I was looking at bolting a turbo onto a JDM B16A, and although it is a B16 and not an H22, it only cost about $1,500.
