Yes, when (if) the money frees up a bit. Have you been reading my mind?

I'm thinking that something with a bit of a lip would add some depth to the look of the car. Also, the stock wheels are 18", so I think nothing smaller than 19" and not sure if I think 20" would be too big. Also, don't know I might stagger the set-up.

So far, I like:

TSW Snettertons in Hyper Silver

TSW Zolder 5 in Hyper Silver

I also like the EXE Tenfold and the EXE Evolve.

Can't afford something really nice like HRE or ADV.1 right now.

Sorry to see the M5 go, but I'm very impressed that you were responsible enough to make such a difficult decision. Says a lot about your character. Regardless of what car you drive, you are a good man and a good son, and that's something you should really be proud of.

And your "downgrade" is still nicer than what most people drive.

My cousin just missed this one by a few hours... Sold this morning. Car wasn't on the lot more than a few days.

That would have been a pretty good price and low miles.

This issue has been brought up a couple of times and it’s an extremely valid point; lest I start to look like a very ungrateful brat, I think I should open up a bit and explain some of my angst. My hope is that fellow enthusiasts will understand some of the psychology behind my struggle.

When all is said and done, I realize I have it pretty good. I have a good job that I enjoy, I have a supportive and kind wife, and three great kids. We have a nice home with a pool in the suburbs and, overall, I’m in pretty good health.

What’s really happened here is reaching a “middle” point in both my career and my life and, after a whole lot of hard work, thinking I could treat myself to something special with four wheels. The M5 was one of my dream cars, and I got to live with that dream for almost an entire year. This recent set of developments represents more than just losing a fun car; it represents the early death of that dream.

To compound the early demise of that personal “progress” in my life, the immediate financial future looks rather bleak in terms of being able to enjoy some of the fruits of my labors. Will we be just fine and plenty comfortable? Of course. But this familial situation is unlikely to get better anytime soon and could last anywhere from 1-20+ years; it’s just impossible to tell. To provide a little perspective on a factor that really hurts – at the end of this week I’ll be getting a very significant quarterly bonus; five figures and the first digit isn’t a “1”, and it won’t be near enough to take care of everything that’s developed in the last couple of months. It can be a rather depressing situation to feel like, even though you are making more money than you’ve ever made, you are doing nothing but going backwards.

At the end of the day, my frustration is really about moving backwards. Is the Genesis a plenty nice car that most anyone would be thrilled with? Yes. Can the M5 eventually be replaced? Yes. That’s the application of rational thought. But, we aren’t talking about being rational; we’re talking about “dreams” and goals and joy in something tangible and all those things took a big hit for me on the day I traded in that red BMW.

Someday, I’ll probably look back and think it was all a bit melodramatic to get so worked up…but, in the throes of these circumstances, the fallout from it, and the emotion of it all, it’s tough to be rational. But then, “rational” and “enthusiast” rarely go hand-in-hand, and I find myself in a wrestle with emotion.

So, there you have it – one car guy’s soul laid bare on the screen.

One day, we'll all be laughing and drooling over your new GT-R.

Keep doing what you're doing T! You're truly blessed.. beautiful family, great ride, seemingly great job. Heck, most of us wish to just have an hour behind the wheel of an M5.

The richer you become.. the more shit you need to pay for.. it's the way it goes. Honestly, for what you paid for the Gen.. you could have stepped into a number of track monsters, but you picked right. A blend between luxury, reliability and performance. In for updates.

Somehow I think you will be fine. Rather than a step back, think of it as an unplanned detour. Sounds like a responsible decision to protect the long term future. More good things will happen. And you still have a really nice toy to play with. Win/Win

Completely understand but very cool that you are looking out for family and putting the dream car on hold (dreams are expensive and usually not real). Just remember, you had the M and were able to sell it before taking a bigger loss. In a few years when things have turned around, there will be a newer, cooler, M out and you will be able to get into it.

Mod the Genesis a bit and enjoy your family.

Best of luck and thanks for sharing with us

Yeah, ummm, aside from the financial obstacles, I cannot imagine trying use a Zonda as a DD in freeway traffic. I'd be so nervous my head would explode.

You made a good choice. I loved my Audi but as an auto I think the Genesis is better for what you need with a family. The S4 is kinda small.

And damn you for making me miss mine

That S4 is also going to get 21mpg on the highway at best.

But like I said, I think as an automatic, you got a better car.
