That should be quite the nice drive. The best comparison I have are the Rockies up here which is about the same distance to get to for me...

The short portion of the US89 between Wilholt, AZ and Prescott, AZ is the entire purpose of the drive, though. Everything else is just getting there.

Given how slow your car is, by the time you get there, it'll be 2018 Thanksgiving.

Make sure you bring enough water and paper towels.

So, how big is the entourage going?

This is a "just me" thing...I'm making my own tradition of getting away and doing this on "Black Friday." This is year 2.

Some nice looking turns. The route from the ferry into Tofino, BC has some great windy mountainous roads that I got to experience this summer...Obviously, a very different look compared to the more desert-like terrain?

Will you post pics, Herr T...?

Definitely very different scenery than BC, or even my annual Alpine run, for example. It's not a HUGE elevation change, but is both fun and close, and that's what matters to me right now.

I did Google street view of those twisties and it looks like fun! I'd love to drive my ST through there.

Well, for the first time, the car let me down. On the way home tonight and got a Check Engine light and a rough idle. Restarting the car didn't help. Looks like tomorrow's drive is cancelled.

That stinks T. Do you have any sort of code scanner? Or AutoZone will scan it for free if you don’t. Hoping it’s an easy fix.

Dealership: "Mr. T, we found your issue."
T: "And that is...?"
Dealership: "You need to trade this car in for an M5."
T: "But, it'll still suck compared to an RLX..."
Dealership: "That's okay. Having the slower M5 builds character and allows you to see the pain and suffering others go through...like your pal Yumcha up in Canada with his awful weather."

Bad ignition coil on one of the cylinders. Labor cost to change just the one vs. all six is the same so doing all of them since, given the mileage, it's only a matter of time before they all fail. Also, no extra labor charge to change the spark plugs while they're in there, so doing those, too. Doing the drive tomorrow and salvaging the weekend.

bad coil pack? you sure you don't have an Audi?

Get this...I replaced my own for $80 with some Bosch R8 ones...
I go take the car in for the airbag recall and those fuckers replaced them again a month later due to recall on those too...
at least they replaced the wiring loom and connectors I broke when I took them out the first time...

Wheels are on. Went to the home of one of my friend's family due to the availability of better tools and space at their disposal.

Process begins...

Comparison...

Finished. Yes, that's a fully restored, numbers matching 442 in the background...he has more than a dozen of them...

Different angles...

Up close...

Definitely recommend everyone go to New Zealand and hit the Crown Range Road. It's a hell of a drive (albeit I was in a Toyota Rav4) . Elevation change: 1121 meters
