Since the repair estimate is still below that threshold, they've authorized repairs and it appears I'll be getting my own car back in a few weeks.
Do you have an option of going for the write-off...? You can probably get a 3er that was not in such an accident for the payout.

Then again, it's your call. If the repair is done right, the car is like new.

T has so much into the car, it's tough for him to walk away from that.
I would take the check, but I don't blame him for wanting it back.

Even with the right repairs, the accident/repair will show up on the history report..

You are going fine a perfectly fine car to a repaired/structured damage car and the only thing you got from the process is diminished resale value and a major red flag for the future buyer.

I had the option with my EP3...the guy asked me if I wanted to total or not...I chose to.

One, they didn't offer me the choice. Two, the car has over 120k miles on it; how much worse can the red flags get?!

Have you picked the bodyshop yet? I know insurance kinda can be nazis about who you take your car to for repairs...is the place that is fixing your ride very reputable?

It's the collision center associated with the BMW dealership where I have my car serviced and is one of only two BMW Certified Collision Centers in the Phoenix area.

So, that's a good thing. Let's assume the best and that your car will be back like it was never hit then.

I hate when this happens. It puts you in a very awkward position because let's say they do fix it up properly, you always have that 10K repair hanging over your head. Also if they don't repair it properly and you get a ton of rattles,vibrations...etc it will be a nightmare because good luck selling a car with 10K in repairs. Regardless, it sounds like it is in good hands, wishing you the best of luck man.

my only point was...you're on the cusp...and I'd be shocked if you don't end up with some further surprises that would bump you into total loss...
not trying to be negative...

it sounds to me like you're relieved and wanted this outcome...get your car back, new as before...and then some.
I wish you luck!

I think a lot of us had been through that situation so we know where you coming from.

But you also know the concerns when it comes to a $10k repair.

Just go check your car regularly to make sure they do a good job fixing the "structure" since unlike paint, it is not something you can just check easily once it is fixed.
I was really hoping you would get the 4ers. of course, nothing beats having no car payments.

No. I believe they've already replaced that part...the lower panel for which the driver's side still needs that lower corner.

I had to go back to see what the heck happened. Glad things worked out. Like you said, with the mileage she sits at who cares about future resale value.

Glad to see your car is getting fixed. I didn't read the all the posts, but if it hasn't been mentioned make sure and filed a "depreciated valve claim" with your insurance company. Someone backed into my dads car like what happened to you and he got a check for $600. If I hadn't told him to ask the insurance company would have never done it. They basically won't volunteer this information, anyway here's an article on it:

Make a diminished value claim | CarInsurance.com

If you already know about this disregard my post, but I have found a lot of people aren't aware it's an option.
