I'm really glad to see you stay with a RWD sports sedan. Thankfully the truck talk was just that, but I can see where you were going with that. You'll enjoy the 4.6 as a DD I'm sure.
I'm staying at the Zona Resort on Princess right across from the Porsche dealership. I'll have to drive through the lot on the way back to the hotel to see if they have it listed yet. What kind of mark up do you think they'll put on it?

I could see how upset you were discussing the impending sale of the M5, and I'm sure it still hurts, but cheers to you for making the right decision for you and your family. You will always be able to say you owned one of the finest cars the world's ever seen. Not many people will ever have the opportunity to say that and I know you are proud to have had the chance to own it. Your enthusiasm showing me all the controls and settings on the M5 was proof of just how endearing the car was to you. Letting me take it for a spin the other day was a major highlight for me. Thank you.

I still remember the day that I offered to check out the M5 for you since it was pretty local to me.
I'm sure you will enjoy the Genesis Sedan and more than likely pick up another M5 in the near future. All of us have to sacrifice whatever to help out our families, especially our parents. You are a good man.
And great job on getting rid of those H badges asap. Those look certainly horrible even to a FOB from South Korea like me.

I just had to run some stuff back over to the dealer where I traded my car and saw the M sitting there...I wanted to fling myself onto the hood and hold on for dear life. Uggghhhhhh!

The M5 is gone.
I now own a 2011, Black on black, Genesis 4.6, with 25K miles. I paid $31K, and they gave me $32,700 (with the tax savings) for the M5 (they first offered $28k). It's a very nice car and totally loaded; but I'm not feeling very celebratory at the moment. When I cease mourning the loss of the M, I'll post some pictures.

Seriously...sorry to hear that you had to get rid of your dream car. What you picked up is not a bad thing. Sure, it's a downgrade but it's still a fun car.
And the thing with life is, never say never. Maybe you'll go back to the BMW M family one day soon, dude.

You traded in your M5 in fear of what future repairs that might happen? Your firm would cover some of it as well.. ahh that sounded like the perfect situation! Unless i missed part of the story..
I think I would have rather hear you say you sold it because you do 20k miles a year and paying for gas is killer.

family comes first and you did the right thing. When the time comes, you can one-up the M5 and get yourself into another bad-ass car.

They aren't exotics; it shouldn't be that much work and $ to keep them on the road (and I don't just mean the M cars; my friends 545 was in the shop more than my M5).

I feel the same way too. When Infiniti can build a FX35 (as an example) that can do 150k miles on it with the preponderance of vehicles needing very little major work, there's no reason an X3/X5 should require the amount of work that they do.

I've been looking at the R-Spec myself as the car is a little bigger and has good straight-line power. I smack myself every time I think about it because my V will be paid off in two months. *yay!*

Somewhat surprising that F-car is less troublesome than BMW but YMMV.Tim, keep your chin up. You made the right choice. In a few years I hope you will be driving Porsche.
