Looks like I never posted anything from the 2018 Alpine drive in May. I don't have much, but here are a few pics -

A few cars queued for the drive North from the Phoenix area:

My car and my little cabin for the weekend:

Close up shot of the results of the bodywork:

All the participants at our stop for lunch in Morenci, AZ:

No, and no.

My son was not there, nor would I let him drive his car on this type of drive; way too technical.

All of our stops are club/family friendly.

And ttribe, given how slow your car is, did this pack have to stop every mile to wait for you to catch up?

Looks fun. Is this an annual thing you do?

Yeah, that was a 320...he volunteered to be the sweeper car...the last car in the train to make sure no one got left behind due to a breakdown, or anything. Good thing, too. That thing was slower than slow.

One complaint I have about our X3...its fucking BMW. xenons, led ,whatever, they should come standard at this point. My fucking jeep cherokee had xenons...my fucking durango has xenons. No excuses for Halogens on a luxury car these days.

Believe it or not, the 320 and the Z3 were slower than me!

This is my annual trip with the club.

I totally agree with you on this. There's no excuse for BMW to still have halogens on any of their cars.

All the newer ones all have LED standard, and some even with adaptive LED standard with Laser as option. |

Not until 2018, BMW still charge for backup camera on their 5 series but they give you Navi as standard equipment.
BMW is not very logical when it comes to options, we all know that.

hey, it costs a lot more to not do halogens...and then they would not be able to sell the higher trims for so much more if they ALL had em!
Let the peasants play too!

I haven’t followed options etc on newer models but both back up cam and heated seats were options on our X3...you know bullshit that should be standard, along with not halogen lights. Lacking of logic is very much correct.

Yes all of those are standard now.. But you know they will find other ways to charge you... Their priority is not being logical,, it is about making $$, so they will hold off to make it standard until the next gen and milk the current gen customers.

Acura probably paid them a boatload of money to not make it standard
So they can at least win in one category

Both parking distance sensor (Front and rear) and backup camera are standard on the new X3 base model X3 sDrive 30i.
Heated seat are not even standard on the 6 cylinder model.... i could careless about that anyway.

I was just building a base X3 and it had the “parking package” for available cost.

heated seats are huge. Especially when you have back issues.

This is the standard equip list:
https://www.bmwusa.com/vehicles/x-mo...sdrive30i.html

Rear view camera is listed under Instrumentation and Control
Front & Rear parking distance control is listed under Comfort and Convenience

The $700 parking package is something else:
  • Surround View w/ 3D View
  • Parking Assistant Plus - Self Parking
  • Active Park Distance Control - some added stuff to the standard park distance control
IMO, it is worth the $700 just for the surround view alone.

Don't know. I have a lot going on in life right now, much of which could impact my ability to replace it any time soon.

Understand.

Even tho it has been pretty reliable so far, but with 150k miles, it is always good to have a back up plan...

Backup plan is juniors bimmer

150k is nothing to an engine as long as you stay up on maintenance

Even one on boost that's robust
At some point those turbos may wear out
Should def plan on that

Your 335 looks amazing for having 150k on the clock, T! The cruise looks like a blast. It's not often I hear of an area of Arizona I didn't venture to but I don't ever recall going through Morenci.

Your car looks fantastic! Excellent choice with those wheels. How often do you find yourself with the top down with the heat out there?

Thanks. This time of year, I don't put the top down that much. The rest of the year? Quite a bit, actually.
